Great Machine at a Great Price
I don't usually bother reviewing things, but since I couldn't find many reviews on this sewing machine before I bought it I felt like I was taking a bit of a leap of faith! Thankfully I love my new machine. I have been sewing on my Mom's 1971 Bernina Bernette for years and it still runs like a champ, but there is a lot it can't do compared to newer machines. Ideally I would shell out the $1200 for a new Bernina model, but that is way out of my budget. This Bernette brand machine while not technically a Bernina, is quality controlled by Bernina. I love that it is an all mechanical machine meaning maintenance is easier and it won't require software updates. It feels sturdy without weighing a ton isn't overly loud while sewing and comes with easy instructions on how to use its many stitches. I sew a lot of clothes and this comes with all the features I need. It has a great stretch stitch for sewing with knit, the automatic buttonhole took me a bit to figure out, but it works well--I'd say the buttonholes come out slightly larger than needed, but you don't have to open it the whole way. It comes with the hemmer foot which is the best for turning small 1/4 hems for ruffles, scarves, etc. And the zipper foot, while different from the one I'm used to using, works well. It comes with 5 plastic bobbins but universal bobbins fit as well. The only negatives I've found so far is that it makes a louder sound when sewing over multiple thick layers of fabric, but doesn't hesitate to do it, and it is hard to find extra feet and accessories sold to go with the machine online, but it comes with everything I can see myself using in the near future anyway.

Nice for the price!
While my goal sewing machine is a 'grownup' Bernina, this little entry level model is a gem! I've sewn most of my clothes since my Jr High years, and have sewn on a variety of different brand machines-Singers, Vikings, Janomes. My b35 sews evenly, and while not heavy duty-I don't think it would do well with layers & layers of Denim Jeans sewing-it's perfect for the everyday household & garment sewing that is the bread & butter of the Sewist's repertoire. I've only had it a couple of months, so time will be the true test, but I'm pleased with it so far. The buttonhole works fine, both the standard and stretchy stitches are all plain vanilla-but that is what we use the MOST no matter how fancy our machine is. AND, this Bernette b35 is less noisy than I expected! It would be a great starter machine, or back-up machine (even a fancy model machine needs to go for cleaning periodically) for anyone who is serious about the craft. If it holds up for the next couple of years I'll be thrilled!

Great sewing machine!
I purchased this machine about a year ago because I have heard good things about this brand and I wanted something simple and lightweight. This fit the bill and no issues so far. It is very easy to use and if I have questions, they are found in the instruction booklet. I am a crafter so I mainly use to sew on paper and a bit of fabric once in awhile.

Handles heavy and thick projects like a champ, but more plastic than metal.
I'm not a sewer by any stretch of the imagination, but occasionally life calls for a sewing machine. As such I'm a bit hard on sewing machines because I clearly don't know my limits. I chose this machine because of the brand name, and the advertised qualities that state it can handle thicker materials and harder jobs, and so far it has. I have had to sew covers onto reflectix insulation for two different RV's windows. Each RV had at least 8 windows, and most weren't small. (The reasoning here is I moved into an RV full time two years ago; in reality I'll never be able to retire here in the US, so I moved into an RV to travel while I'm still young enough to enjoy it.) Living full-time RV life means the inevitable cold / stupid hot weather sometimes catches you, and having protection against those extremes makes all the difference in the world, hence the reflectix window coverings. I could have left them the shiny chrome color, but they look better with some fabric over them, plus, it adds an extra layer of protection. This little machine has plowed through several layers of different fabrics on reflectix with no issues. Some of the fabrics are burlap, flannel, and anti-slip fabric. I've also had to stitch a rug with thin rubber on the bottom. This little machine handles them all well and silky smooth. My only complaints are 1- this machine weighs as much as a feather; I can lift it with one hand, and I'm a small female. Instead of a metal machine like they used to make, these new ones are crappy plastic just about everywhere. For a machine made to handle big, tough jobs, being so lightweight did lead to some moving around as I sewed bigger items. 2 - I also found the cord to be a touch too short. Reaching the plug, the machine, and a table at a comfortable height left zero room for moving the footswitch anywhere but directly under the machine, and at a bit of a tilt at that. - I'm 5'1", so it's not like I was being unrealistic. 3- The switch that lifts the foot up and down is in an awkward/weird position from other machines, and it is very short, thin, and plastic. When this plastic starts to break I would bet good money this is the first piece to go. All things considered, this little machine is a good one for tougher projects in regards to the thickness of fabrics and alternative materials. I only hope it lasts more than the new standard of 5-7 years, because at that point I'll just consider sewing projects a no-go. I won't spend the money on a plastic machine twice. I wish I had bought this brand decades ago when companies still used metal in their manufacturing. this new disposable mentality; "make em' cheap so they have to buy another more often" is both unsustainable and a little sleezy in my opinion. If you can find an older metal model I recommend it, but if not this little thing will work fine. Just don't expect to pass it on to any family. The only possible outcome after myself is the landfill. Welcome to 2022.

Switzerland's excellent products are disappointing.
Unpacking and checking, it is found that the surface of free arm is uneven, and there is a corner bulging, which is visible to the naked eye. It must be disassembled and installed again to make it flat. It can be imagined that the manufacturer‘s assembly is very sloppy. The screwdriver provided is too long and cannot be used in a narrow space. The needle threader’s hook is broken. It can’t come out through the needle hole. Instead, bypass the needle and holds the needle post. Causing needle threader can’t If you continue to check, I hope there will be no more problems. God bless. Pause. If continue to check, will find more problems? God forbid, Hope no more problems, because it is not easy to Refund. According to common sense, Swiss products are well-reputed, but is the above problem a design problem or an assembly problem?

The Best Machine I EVER Bought, 50+ Years Sewing!!
I bought this as a back-up to my large, expensive Janome sewing machine, which had to visit the repair shop. It has performed marvelously! I have been disappointed with machine after machine, specifically the Singer Quantum, the Singer Heavy Duty and a Brother (model?) and felt doomed having to buy yet another backup. But this one stands above all! The manual is detailed, informative and understandable, obviously written by a native English speaker...the machine is simplicity itself, and it just runs and runs!! I use it 6 hours per day on average, and have done it all...quilting, jeans repair, clothes, and bears, including minky fabric! (Do clean it thoroughly after sewing with minky). I recommend THIS SPECIFIC SEWING MACHINE

A great little machine
So far, I love the Bernette 35. It is light weight but steady and serviceable. I plan to use it to make draperies and pillow covers and have made one pillow cover since it set it up yesterday. The setup took a little longer than I expected because you have to read the directions and look at the pictures carefully. I have been sewing for 60 years, and I think it is a my favorite machine. Haven't tried the different stitches yet, but straight sewing is easy stitches are a consistent size.

Thread tangles around the shuttle. SewVacDirect customer service sounds like they'll fix it.
It seems sturdily made and worked great the first month, now it keeps tangling the top thread around the shuttle. Little weirdness figuring out who to talk to (started at myBernette.com because that's where the warranty was sent) but SeVacDirect, the seller, is paying to ship it back. They said they'll fix it or replace it. Yay! And I've cleaned and oiled it for the fourth time and it's suddenly working great again. I must have missed a tiny bit of lint somehow. Great machine, fabulous service once I figured out who to call.

Super Build Quality, Outclass Performance, Comparatively Low Price but Quality Product
I bought bernette b35 and honestly I m totally satisfied. I have gone through tidious search for a machine in the range around 15K. I have sorted out Usha Wonderstitch, Brothers GS3750 WT and Bernette B35. Without any doubt B35 is more value for money, better than expected and also it's robustness and sewing quality speaks the outclass performance. I got everything in comparatively lower price and better quality than other brand like brother & Usha. fyi..Barbette is an age old company and masters in this field.
