Can you use on a recliner where the cushion does not lift off? If yes, how does it fit on?

I used it on a couch without a removeable cushion. Without a cushion, it just sits on the surface of the couch. I believe mine came with the instructions. I believe I googled it too and found a video. I believe it's been a couple of years since I put it together.

How tall are the handles in their highest position?

12 inches at their highest position. My Mom is 95 and it helps her greatly getting herself up off of the couch. I have hers set at the lowest position shes very tiny.
