As you may know, Carrageenan is a natural thickener that is made from red seaweed. It has been proven to be safe for food and drug products. The studies that linked Carrageenan to potential health effects, were actually based on a degraded form of Carrageenan, called “Poligeenan”. Further, these studies were based on feeding Poligeenan as a high percentage of the total diet. Our Dr. Sheffield’s Toothpaste Formulas that have Carrageenan only have 0.1% Carrageenan in them, so when brushing, even if you were to swallow all the toothpaste, you would be ingesting only a tiny amount of high quality, food grade Carrageenan!
