Outstanding boots!
It took me 5 pairs before I finally got the right size for these. Most Columbia boots run small and narrow. I know this because I own two different types of Columbia snow boots. They are the only brand I wear for snow/winter for the last 20 - 30 years. I bought these assuming they would also run small, big mistake. If you buy the right size, when you put these on, you won’t want to take them off because they are that comfortable. I normally wear 9-9.5 medium width shoes. I purchased a 10 wide, a half size up from my usual shoe size range, to allow for my feet to have plenty of room with hiking socks and because the toes are on my right feet do not lay flat like my left foot. Your toes should not feel squished in any shoe. I got wide because Columbia are usually on the narrow side. My left foot is a medium width (almost narrow) and my right foot is medium width (almost wide). I also purchased Columbia hiking socks which feel amazing in these boots. Quarry is a very pretty grey color with black, light grey and blue accents. Such a pretty color combination. I will be wearing these to walk our dog on the trails in our neighborhood, which I do daily and are often swampy and even flooded in some areas. I was previously using my Brooks Ghost sneakers but too often coming home with mud, wet socks and saturated shoes. We mostly do trails but also mix in some sidewalk walking, so I needed a shoe that would be good on both. I will come back to update my review should they not work well. Super excited to wear them tomorrow on our morning walk through the woods. Update: 2/20/23 I wore these yesterday for a 3 mile walk/hike through trails and on sidewalks walking a dog. Update: 2/28/23 I have worn these again and had success, no knee or back pain afterward. Not my favorite shoe for walking our dog on sidewalks and not as comfortable as my Brooks but they are waterproof and are saving me on the trails right now. Update: 12/8/25 Loving these boots! I have been wearing them for miles while walking my dog on trails, through puddles, wet grass and snow. They are so warm and comfortable! I have been wearing them every day lately because we have been getting so much snow and everything is staying wet. No heel pain, no foot pain of any kind. Keeping my feet dry and the brooks ghost are being put away for the winter because these are the best for walking my dog through wet conditions. Considering to buy another pair and maybe not even wear the Brooks for walks anymore. Amazing shoes!!!

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THESE BOOTS
Let me start out with: THESE ARE AMAZING BOOTS and YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THESE BOOTS. These boots held up against all different types of climates and weather and water on my road trip and they still look great! We went to Arizona, Utah, Nevada; the Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, Zion, Salt Lake. We went through water, dessert, rain, and mud, and these boots held it fine. The only thing we didn't go through was snow, because apparently even though we Californians were freezing our butts off already, the locals said the weather was actually great, and that the colder weather and storms were actually late this year xD. Anyways, these boots were extremely lightweight and required almost no breaking in. My friend had some HiTech hiking boots and she said these Columbia boots were a lot lighter than hers. They were so extremely comfortable and easy to walk in. The size fits as expected if you go a half size up, and walking through the river, it kept my feet nice and dry. I think it would definitely keep you dry, but remember only as far as the shoe goes will it keep you dry lol. They've also got amazing grip. Whether we were on wet stones, or gravelly and sand covered rocks that could easily give way and make you slip or fall they worked amazingly.

Great Support!!
I have had trouble finding the right boot for a number of years. I am on my feet a lot with a work schedule which can at times be very demanding. I can be on my feet between 10 to 15 hours a day depending on my work load. The long days have given me some very difficult problems with my feet, knees, and legs. I have suffered a lot just trying to find the right shoes and boots in which will help relieve the pain and poor arch support. This boot delivery's it all!! I was not sure about this brand of boot because I have never owned a pair in my life. But I did my homework and read several pages of reviews about this boot and all the feedback was honest and trustworthy. I was a little concerned about how my arches would do in this boot so when the boots arrived I added my arch support orthotic insoles on top of their insoles that came with the boot and it worked like a charm. I had plenty of room to have both insoles in the boot with plenty of room to spare. I wore them the first time when attending a church gathering. I worked and stood on concert floors for up to 4 hours without a break. I was amazed! I had no pain anywhere!! So then I tried them again during one of my work days just to see how things would go. I wore them for 10 hours with only about a total of 45 minutes off my feet. Again! I had no pain or discomfort anywhere in my body. These boots are amazing!! I am a customer for life as long as they do not make any changes!! LOL They really are an exceptional boot! I have purchased many types of boots and shoes and expensive special orthotics trying to correct the problems I had been having for years without a lasting relief. I am grateful for the people who put out their reviews and shared their experiences and how the boot or shoe worked for them. Best Wishes to all who give this boot a try. It is worth every penny and then more!! It delivers on all areas that it claims to do. I will never regret this purchase!! I even purchased a second pair in a different color!! Thank you!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Comfortable, Durable, and Perfect for Any Trail!
The Columbia Women's Newton Ridge Hiking Boots have quickly become my go-to choice for outdoor adventures! These boots strike the perfect balance between comfort, durability, and style, making them ideal for both casual hikes and more rugged terrain. Right out of the box, they felt incredibly comfortable with no break-in period needed. The lightweight design means I can wear them for hours without feeling weighed down, and the cushioned insole provides great support, even on longer hikes. Plus, the waterproof feature has been a game-changer—I've hiked through puddles, rain, and mud, and my feet stayed completely dry. The grip on these boots is fantastic too. Whether I’m hiking uphill on rocky terrain or navigating slippery trails, they’ve provided excellent traction and stability. Not to mention, they’re stylish enough to wear around town after the hike! If you're looking for a reliable, comfortable, and waterproof hiking boot, the Columbia Newton Ridge boots are an outstanding choice. They’ve exceeded all my expectations and have kept my feet happy on every adventure. Highly recommend!

Length is true to size for me...👍
This boot is true to size... I originally followed other reviews that suggested to go a half size up. WRONG move for me. I then exchanged it for my true size, and the length was perfect. After using it for some time, this shoe is comfortable and of good quality. Traction is really good; seams are well stitched (double-stitched); colors are stylish. So far as being waterproof-- I was in a little but of rain, it held watertight. (But I wasn't able to test it through streams or puddles, yet.) Note 1: I did swap out the sole for one with an arch support-- as that makes a huge difference in my hikes. I do thisbfor all my shoes... Note 2: The ankles are extra-padded. It looks a bit bulky at first, but I know they'll flatten a bit-- and they're meant to protect my ankles from impact (from falls, or getting stuck in rocks, etc.) I do wish they made these in a taller height (maybe 8 inches) so I can feel a sturdier ankle support-- especially during strenuous hikes. However, as a day-hike boot-- and-- for the great fit and value of these, I have to say that I'm loving them! ❤️ Columbia is my favorite brand for boots.... They still put out their great quality!

Prepare for a rough breaking in process, but otherwise great boots!
Previous review, titled "This little piggy went to the butcher": My TOES. So close to being a great shoe, but every time you take a step and the part of the shoe above the toes bends, it sends daggers right below your big toenail. I ignored other reviews with this complaint because I figured they just ordered a size too small, but the shoes fit perfectly and I've still worn 4 inch high heels nicer to my toes than these. And yes, I'm wearing thick socks. They also get very hot (I ordered the gray), but that's a trade-off for the water resistance, which is very good. I work on a vegetable farm (if you're walking a shady trail, they may be better temperature-wise), so I wanted something mud proof. For $75, I expected a moderately comfortable shoe with slight water resistance, but instead I got a painful shoe with great water resistance. It's frustrating because the back of the shoe and the arch support are wonderful, and I'm a flat foot, so that's rare. I may try adding padding to the toes before returning them, but they're unwearable as-is. NEW REVIEW: Literally wore the shoes for 3 more days and now they're perfectly comfortable. No more toe stabbing. 10/10 would recommend breaking in your hiking boots before complaining about them.

Great quality hiking boots!
The Columbia Newton Ridge Plus are a very good quality fall/winter hiking boots that performs well on trails, but can look great also in casual looks. I love to hike and I need good quality boots to keep my feet warm and safe. The first time I wore them, I took them on a 3 hour trail walk. Leather shoes usually need some time to break them in, but these were very comfortable from the beginning. I also wore them for a 4 days trip in the Yosemite Valley, in the winter. They kept my feet warm (with appropriate stockings) and dry in both rain and snow. I did lots of hiking and my feet did not hurt at all. The boots are very lightweight, while looking a little bulky (I like this look). On icy surfaces they are a little slippery. The boots look very nice and I can also wear them in the city without looking like I'm on a hike. It's quite a nice styling piece with jeans or leggings (although I wear them with casual skirts/dresses as well). The boots fit me as expected (I wear 7.5 but I bought them in size 8 to be able to wear thicker socks in the winter). With very thin socks I could wear a 7. I have a medium width foot and these are perfectly fitted, maybe a little too fitted with thick socks; if you have even slightly wide fit I would recommend a wider size, since the construction of the boots doesn't allow flexibility. March 2018 update (after December 2016 purchase): The leather shows after one year some wear, but otherwise the hiking boots lasted very well in time (the sole shows minimal signs of wear). These boots protected me from cold and water in many hikes and vacations; I just love them more and more. I would repurchase them again when they'll be all used up and beaten up. Pictures are taken recently.

If you’re looking for what size to buy - read this!!!
Ultimately, I ended up with my normal size and I would not recommend sizing up as many other reviews suggest. I am a size 8.5-9 (usually 8.5 in flats & pumps and most shoes but sometimes a 9 in boots and athletic shoes). So I bought these same boots in Sizes 8.5, 9, and 9.5. First I tried on the 9.5 because so many people said to size up ... and, on first impression, I thought they fit and I couldn’t imagine going down a whole size. However after wearing around the house, my arches began to ache and my feet felt like they had too much room in the toe box so I could tell they were going to rub and get blisters. I went down to the 9 ... again, they felt like they fit and didn’t think I could go down any more. I wore them around the house for a couple hours and noticed the toe box creasing painfully on top of my toe (instead of where they foot bends) as other reviewers mentioned. The arch support didn’t feel sufficient either. I went down to size 8.5 and my first instinct was that they were too tight. I felt my toe touch the end and some squeezing around the sides of my feet that I was afraid would get sore. However, I put my foot in barefoot and then I could feel my it actually had room to slide up and down about a half inch along the insole within the shoe when I wasn’t putting weight on it. When I stood up and tapped my heel to the back of the boot then, when I put weight on it, my toes did not touch the front. I think the back of the boot is quite padded and so it can take up space when you first step into the boot and push your foot forward. I put on thick hiking socks and wore them around the house for several hours. They did feel tight at first but yet were the most comfortable. The arch support was perfect, the toe creased in the right place (even when squatting or kneeling) and the foot was snug enough to not rub and get friction. Even though the side was still squeezing my right foot a bit, It did not get sore. So I kept the 8.5 and put them to the test crewing at an event in Miami where it was 90 degrees out and we were working with a 1600 degree fire and lots of water - therefore my boots needed to be genuine leather and waterproof. I was working on my feet in them for 4-5 hours in a wet, dirty environment and standing for long periods on hard pavement. These held up and did the job wonderfully. My feet were comfortable, safe, dry and blisterless ... and amazingly not sore. The grey leather also stayed impressively clean looking and was easy to clean off any dirt on them. So bottom line: I found to order true to size and let loosen up for best fit. As many say, they are comfortable right out of the box (almost like a running shoe) so don’t take extreme breaking in ... but don’t be scared off if they feel a little tight at first because leather is good quality and does soften. *However, I will say that there may be also slight size discrepancy between each shoe and/or the different colors. I tried an 8.5 in the tan/red version and those felt shorter and wider in the toe box than the grey ones.
