The RØDE SmartLav+ Smartphone Lavalier Microphone
The RØDE SmartLav+ Smartphone Lavalier Microphone is a game-changer for anyone looking to capture high-quality audio with their smartphone. Whether you're a vlogger, filmmaker, or podcaster, this discreet little microphone delivers broadcast-grade sound without the need for bulky equipment. [Image of RØDE SmartLav+ Smartphone Lavalier Microphone] **Pros:** * **Excellent Audio Quality:** The omnidirectional condenser capsule captures clear and crisp audio, even in noisy environments. * **Discreet and Portable:** The small size and included clip make it easy to wear and hide on clothing. * **Durable Construction:** The Kevlar-reinforced cable can withstand daily wear and tear. * **Versatile Compatibility:** Works with most smartphones and tablets with a TRRS headphone jack. **Cons:** * **Requires Additional App:** To get the most out of the SmartLav+, you'll need to download RØDE's Reporter app (or a similar recording app). * **Not Suitable for High-Wind Environments:** The included foam windscreen helps reduce wind noise, but it may not be enough for extreme conditions. **Overall:** The RØDE SmartLav+ is an excellent investment for anyone who wants to elevate the audio quality of their smartphone recordings. It's easy to use, delivers professional-level sound, and is built to last. If you're serious about creating content, this microphone is a must-have. This little mic is as good as some mics I've had costing over £100

Perfect little microfone
I love this microphone, its very compact, easy to use. I am using it for filming my youtube videos and I have to say, it is worth the price. Sounds are amazing and I love using it. I have seen comments, that the cable isnt long enough, but I dont think thats true, at least for me, I think I could do with shorter one for sure. Anyway, love it and I am happy, that I picked this product... Works great with any free voice recording app, so no issues found.

Records well, but everything else... poorly delivered. Not plug&play as you might expect.
I must say that it is actually decent recording device. Review could end here... though. Rode's ridiculous focus on Apple environment is truly annoying through eyes of Smartlav+ user. It is dedicated to those of you that have old apple phone (yes they support old ones only-it is all about jack :) ) - Rode app (paid!) is available on IOS only £5.99 sic!). I know you can always find better apps on Android and usually free or for a fraction of IOS equivalent price (i bought Rec Forge II pro for just over £2, it was 'expensive one'. I must say that native app was doing the job well, but I always want to squeeze all juice from my devices. It is not an issue though, Rode does not recommend any particular one for android. Why? What is the point of having good product for obsolete mobile devices? I do not follow Rode's philosophy. Box and package. It comes with basic cardboard box (no tech specs on it , but I'll talk about it later). Inside there is attached a quick guide... If you expected quick guide about the product, you would be surprised. It is all about mount clip. Yes. mount clip only. Nothing about using the mic. No tech specs, no characteristics of the mic, nothing but clip. You can straight away see that the product and its users are not treated seriously by the producer. All the time you get impression, you got cheap leftover from great Rode's true offer (btw it is in fact costly product and we pay quite a lot in it for branding - manufacturing eng guy perspective). The only way to get more info about specs is on their website (at least that). Acoustic Principle Permanently Polarise Active Electronics JFET Capsule 0.10" Polar Pattern Address Type End Frequency Range 60Hz - 18kHz Output Impedance 3000Ω Maximum SPL 110dBSPL Maximum Output Level 189.0mV (@ 1kHz, 1% THD into 1KΩ load) Sensitivity -35.0dB re 1 Volt/Pascal (17.80mV @ 94 dB SPL) +/- 2 dB @ 1kHz Equivalent Noise Level (A-weighted) 27dBA Weight 6.00g Dimensions 1180.00mmH x 4.50mmW x 4.50mmD Output TRRS Output Warranty 1 year Since it is omni-directional condenser mic, you must be aware that it is capable of recording environment as you actually hear it. Remember you can learn to ignore some sounds, but microphone cannot. It will record your wall clock ticking , fridge, neighbours ... everything. Thus, you need app to cut off its sensitivity dramatically, so that it picks up only your voice and later you amplify it to suit your needs. It is not dynamic, nor one that focuses on one direction only mic-please check what you really need. What annoys me is that they use meaningless phrases on the box, leaflet and adverts ('professional- grade', 'broadcast quality'... meaningless marketing only). It is not pro grade product. But it is a high quality (sometimes too high) for beginners and above in audio/voice recording. Cable length is ok (you get about 70cm of usable cable length, when excluding all necessary bends and loops) for average height person - you can hide your phone in front trousers pocket. I would not recommend it if you need to be further away from recording device (probably rare for such a basic product occasion, but have it in your mind before purchase), or if you are really tall and cannot hide phone in your jacket. Free advice: - always record in flight mode -if on windows surface like device switch of system sound enhancements (recording device advanced properties settings). -your phone or tablet or PC (if TRRS jack compatible) may see it as headset - you have to define it as recording device only and use other audio output (in some devices it is not that simple) for sound To sum up, it is a very good microphone for its price, but only for people that spent some time setting up recording devices of are experienced in voice recording. If not- too expensive - you can get your results for less. There is a lot of misleading marketing info (mainly from Rode itself) that could create unsupported expectations. Lack of any guidance or advice or app for users (the one for IOS can be ignored - supports devices that are not even manufactured anymore!). Or buy it and play with it for a while - once you understood its properties, it will give you expected results... and will open your way for pro products :)

Works with HTC Android Phones
Purchased this to use with a HTC10 Android phone. Tested using Android 7.0 Nougat and the default HTC camera app. Also used with the Rode SC1 extension cable. When you plug this into the headphone jack a small headset icon appears in your notification bar. You can then record a phone video as normal, I used the default camera app. When you playback the audio pull the microphone out of the jack as the audio won't be audible until you do. This is because the phone thinks it's a headset plugged in not just a microphone. In reality it has recorded the sound perfectly. Significant difference in audio recording quality over the phone's built in microphone. Clear and crisp audio without any background noise. Great product!

Great sounding microphone, very small and light
Finally I have found a mic thats good enough to use to produce youtube videos. For the last few weeks I have been wanting to get started making videos for youtube but needing an upgrade from my phone microphone i bought a few different ones from amazon and had to send them all back as the sound quality was no where near good enough for a video you would want anyone to hear. This little gem sounds great, crisp clear voice with minimal background noise and no clipping that i could tell. This one is the keeper and a pretty good price too for a big name

The Rode SmartLav+ is a wearable microphone also known as a Lavalier mic it is a Broadcast Quality Professional Grade Lavalier Mic or at least that’s what it”s called, it comes with a TRRS jack which is compatible with most smartphones and the reason behind that is because the smartlav+ is mainly made for usage which motivated RODE to make an app for all the iOS users out there to benefit the most from its feautures, however if you are planning on pluging it to your DSLR or your camera don’t get your hopes too high since your camera needs a TRS jack while the SmartLav+ offers a TRRS one ! but on the other hand RODE did find a way around it by making the RODE SC3 Adapter a TRRS to TRS adapter so you can plug this directly to your camera that will cost you 15$ ! + Now lets talk about the mic itself ! It comes in a omnidirectional condeser mic capsule and inside of it is the discrete 4.5mm miniature microphone, the cable is a 116cm Kevlar reinforced cable so don’t worry about the microphone stretching or snaping in normal usage but I would recommand the Rode SC1 TRRS Extansion cable for an extra 580cm ! +The package also includes a foam windshield which feels pretty premium and will help you avoid all the t,b and p harsh sounds and will reduce the breathing noise it also comes together with a durable mounting clip so you can attach to your shirt ! Or anything you want and a cool locking letherate bag to take it with you if you are on the GO + Now I'll talk about some problems, first of all and the most annoying thing, is that whenever I plug it to my PC or even DSLR, the Clip keeps tazing me whenever it contacts my skin, which makes it harder on me ta concetrate on the content I am creating, 2nd things, is the cable, I beleive that it is tooo short for a lavalier mic, but what I did, is plug the smartLav+ to my smartphone and then put it back into my pocket ( which doesn't taze me lol) and then recor on both the msartphone and DSLR, and then later on I sync it in Premiere Pro, which makes it a lot easier and efficient to work with but those are not some serioues problems, and most of them can be fixed by using some commen sense So overall the microphone does an amazing job for it’s 79$ pricetag, and if I had to choose between this or even the seneheiser ME-2 which costs 70$ more I would easily pick this all day long so if you are considering buying both the SC3 and the SC1 Adapter then this whole setup will cost you around 120$ which is a nobrainer for the quality you are getting from this kit 😊

First things first - the mic has really good sound quality and is absolute value for money. I wanted to use it for moto vlogging and the wire was thin enough for me to roll it all up and hide it inside the helmet. Mic uses power from the device you are connecting it to so keep enough battery backup if you are looking for longer recordings. GoPro has a c-type port and will require an adapter to affix a mic. There is one available from GoPro itself. This mic has trrs connection jack. While some devices use trrs, some use trs. Incase you have a device, like GoPro, that uses a trs connection then you will need another adapter that converts trrs to trs jack. I spent a lot of time and learnt it the hard way struggling to find out why was there no sound going into my video. Check with your connecting device for the type of socket it has and order accordingly. My recommendation is either the company should include trrs to trs adapter in the packaging, or mention it on the page about this requirement.
