I have yet to see any solution that really works** A: After pigeons and collared doves effectively destroyed two rows of my peas by eating the growing tips, I hung up de-bird repellent discs and bird scarer rods on strings between a couple of six foot canes. We don't have too many balconies in my part of Lincolnshire but we have more of those flying rats than you can shake a stick at.Pleased to say that the protected crops seem to be coming on nicely. The spirals of the bird scarer rods move in the lightest of winds and, to the human eye, are quite attractive but the apparent up and down movement seems to put off the birds. The discs reflect light onto the ground in patterns my grandchildren like but the birds don't seem to and also make a gentle tinkling sound in higher winds. Don't know which of them worked best but neither are overly expensive. We country folks have to watch the pennies!Ought to say that it seems to put off the pigeons but Jack, what we call our blackbird, doesn't seem so bothered but, as he doesn't touch the crops, that's fine and he has a good sing morning and evening. His missis doesn't seem bothered either.Hope that helps. **Q: Does it work with heron? Has anyone has experienced with it?** A: Does not work with the birds and we get Ravens, Crows, Magpies, Pigeons, & Seagulls and the all still come and mess every where due to Neighbour feeding them. I do not know about Herons. **Q: Will these work to hang from a circular trampoline safety net enclosure?** A: Well you'll certainly be able to hang them through the mesh - BUT - the hooks poking thru into the trampoline part may be a safety hazard - I tried bending the hooks round to make a circle so they wouldn't fall off the string I needed to use to hang them from my windows - but I may not have had the right equipment and couldn't make them bend. **Q: Does this work at night; pigeons are nesting on my gutters only at night time.** A: As the discs rely on reflection from sun or daylight I would say that they would not be any use of a night time. However I have noticed of a night time that my discs which I have located on my sky dish and my palm trees do sometimes catch the light from my kitchen window or the moonlight and when they blow in the breeze I catch glimpses of light reflecting on the discs. I have not had any problem with pigeons since putting these up on my sky dish and also with birds pecking at my palm trees to get at the bark for their nests. They were worth every penny I paid for them. Saw these and read a few of the reviews so bought a packet and put them around the pond and decking area. Have to say that I am very pleased with these - they are not 100% fool-proof as I have had to chase or throw things at the pigeons on the odd occasion, but I have to say that there has been a noticeable improvement in the fact that the pigeons are sitting and s***ing elsewhere. As one review mentioned, these do work really well when the sun's out and the reflection of the sunlight does dance nicely across the decking and pond, giving the impression of movement. So in summary I would say a combination of these, good weather, a bit of arm waving and the odd throwing of an object, soon give the birds the hint. Haven't seen the heron for a while either...fingers crossed.
