Solid site pencil with refillable lead—grippy, tough, and built for clean marks on rough surfaces.
Picked this up for daily site use—wanted something tougher than standard pencils that doesn’t snap or roll off timber. This Striker unit’s got a proper chunky grip, easy to hold even with gloves on. The mechanical action feeds lead clean, no jamming, and it’s refillable so you’re not binning it after a few days. Used it on wood, concrete, and pipe—marks show up clear and don’t smudge. The red body stands out in the toolbox, and it’s weighty enough to feel solid without being bulky. Clip’s strong too—doesn’t bend or snap off like cheap ones. Good stash-ready gear for anyone who wants their marking sorted without the faff. I keep one in the van and another clipped to the work belt. 👍 Pros ✅ Refillable lead—no waste, long-term use ✅ Strong grip—easy to hold with gloves ✅ Bold marks—shows up on rough surfaces ✅ Durable clip—holds firm on belt or pouch ✅ Bright red body—easy to spot in the kit 👎 Cons ❌ Heavier than standard pencils—might not suit light jobs ❌ Lead refills sold separate—stock up ahead ❌ No eraser—pure marking tool ❌ Can roll on angled surfaces—watch placement 🧭 Personal Review If you want a carpenter’s pencil that’s built for real graft and doesn’t flake out mid-mark, the Striker 77629 earns its spot. I’ve used it across timber, pipe, and concrete—no drama, just clean marks and solid build. Proper stash-ready gear for anyone who wants their lines dialled and their tools sorted.

Unusual but very good.
Quite an unusual item, a propelling carpenters pencil, but one that works well. The leads are, like normal carpenters pencils, oval in section, and come in approx. 3" lengths, which are inserted into the plastic body.It does not work like the usual propelling pencil, where you click the top to expose more lead. With this one, the top button is pressed, and the lead inserted/pulled out with the other hand.In other words, non-automatic. The lead itself is very hard, and despite having about .25" exposed, does not break. Comes with two spare leads, so should last a long time. Well recommended.

Ideal of smooth surfaces only uneven surfaces cause led to snap
Whilst it's fairly decent I brought it out of impulse it does work the leds strong but I work making sheds so I'm drawing straight lines over ship lap and the vibrations cause the lock rivets which are plastic to round off, and now it doesn't actually hold the led in the pencil anymore unless almost half of the led is out so theres a slight angle to lock the led in place then the led snaps because it's too fair out if your drawing on smooth surfaces it's really good and the led do last for ages but like I said it's more how i was using it that gave me my problems i think on smoother wood etc it wouldn't fall apart so fast ,but in the end getting replacement led is another pain.

Shame..
If the internal parts of this were made from spring steel (the jaws that grip the lead) this would be a brilliant big of kit. Unfortunately that’s the bit that lets it down. Doesn’t grip the lead properly so it keeps popping back in. No good while you’re using it. Pity, it would have been good otherwise.

Such a good pencil!
I haven't used this pencil that much but it do find it really good! The older wooden type pencils seem to either split through the middle or the lead becomes loose in the wood. Either of these problems makes the pencils useless. This can't happen with this pencil. Although I haven't used it that much it has been rolling around in the bottom of my tool bag for a few months now and even time I get it out it still works so it must be quite strong. I recommend this product.

Gimmick not futuristic
A terrible product, useless for accurate marking due to the thickness of the black plastic on each side on anything thicker than a metal ruler and the lead composition does not behave as a traditional automatic pencil at all, it comes out entire and on its own in pocket or not at all..... didn’t last a whole day on site and I’m back to my time proven pencils.

Useful carpenters pencil
Comfortable to use, good for marking walls etc, but refill are a bit hard for marking hard objects like copper pipe. Also lead can break easily if allowed to protrude too much from pencil, but once you are used to it, it works well.

Not the type of mechanical mechanism I was expecting...
Upon seeing this product, I felt quite excited; a mechanical carpenter's pencil, cool! It saves having to sharpen my pencil with a knife all the time. Unfortunately, when it arrived, I was instantly disappointed. The lead inside the pencil was snapped and it wasn't really mechanical in the way a traditional architect pencil is. When you press down on the button, which I must say is pretty stiff, I realised the lead doesn't click out one piece at a time, it just releases the clamp for the lead and it just slides out. After playing with it, it soon became apparent that I needed to grab the lead with my fingers and pull it out to the desired length, which left my fingers pretty dirty. All in all, it's cheap and it does have a soft lead so it marks pretty well, but in truth, I won't be buying any replacement leads for it, I'll just revert back to some traditional carpenter's pencils.

Striker Mechanical Carpenter Pencil Simply Put, Blows Away Standard Carpenter Pencils
I just got my Striker Mechanical Carpenter Pencil yesterday and I already love it. The bright red color makes it easy to find in my toolbox or when I leave it laying on wood or my bench (which I did) versus the standard carpenters pencil. I can tell that the abs plastic is very durable, and I think that is a big plus versus conventional carpenter pencils. I liked the length of the Striker Mechanical Carpenter Pencil. Its roughly the same length as a new wood pencil. The beauty of a mechanical carpenter pencil is that this length always stays the same, you don't have to deal with changing size and especially small stubby pencils. I liked the pocket clip since sometimes I am not wearing my tool belt it gives me the option to hook on my shirt or pants. Adjusting the Dura-Lead was easy, I first used my Striker on some plywood.and I marked about twenty-five lines and I was pressing hard to get a dark line and not once did the lead break. I love that you can adjust the lead with one hand, it's very convenient if your holding a tape or other tool.. In the past when my pencil broke I would have to put everything down and pull out a utility knife or portable carpenter pencil sharpener. Changing the thickness of this tool was so easy and something I loved. I will use this pencil around the house for writing notes and numbers down. For work, this pencil will save me time in sharpening broken or dull carpenter’s pencils tips..Overall I would recommend this to anyone who uses a carpenter pencil, once you do, like me you will never go back to old style carpenter pencils

nice pencil with some notable issues!
I purchased this for using this this in my shop. I needed a pencil that does not run out of lead or break. This looked like the one. It is working ok so far except for a couple of notable issues. The lead does not stay in place when pressing a little hard. It tends to break or goes inside. It really bothers me. Also the nib is thick so you cannot get a thin line. The body of the pencil is strong plastic. This pencil would have been great if there was a better mechanism to hold the lead together.
