Excellent product, poor Amazon delivery service
Ive been using Dylon dye products for over 10 years now and never had any problems. I've found the quality of their dyes to be consistent and easy to use. Over the years theor products have also evolved from when you had to add salt to the washing machine dye to the 'pods' they now use. I've given this 1 star as an indication of the deliverty service and not the product which is 5 stars in my view. The delivery service is 1 star because eventhough I was in and no one rang the bell or knocked on the door, the delivery driver simply dumped my delivery on my doorstep eventhough Im on a main road with cars and peioople constantly going past. By pure luck I stepped outside to throw out some rubbish in the bin and found the parcels on the floor in full view of the entire street. To make matters worse, Amazon them updated the delivery status to say 'parcel was handed to resident'. This is an infuriatingly brazzen lie.

RECYCLE, UPDATE: would not bother with dye: cleaning up the mess is a major hassle
UPDATED: the dye faded on the first wear outdoors, and washed out in the first wash. would NOT recommend. FIRST we should ALWAYS RECYCLE old clothes, even damaged ones these get shredded and remade into something else. that aside... the DYE option for older (faded jeans) seemed an option to breath new life into a old faded pair. To be absolutely honest its just not worth this hassle: The time it took, the mess it made, the amount of water cycles, rinsing and re washing. The results were not that impressive either. I certainly would NOT use in a washing machine due to the initial strength of the dye; This did not really work (faded) black jeans. Maybe it would be fine on 'a new made' project'? in a bucket/bath. Summary: Weighing up the actual time it took and the resources (hot water, electricity, detergents etc) and the THREE washing machine cycles, and subsequent clean up, the next time will probably just recycle the clothes and buy replacements. would NOT reccomend.

Very inferior product
I have used the older dye packs that required separate salt over the years. This all in one system does not work well, even on one pair of jeans I just wanted to refresh (black). The dye just washed right out; there is no effect on the clothing. Three washes and detergent, plus this, all wasted for no improvement. However, despite the failure to dye clothes as it was supposed to, it left small residues in every crevice that did not wash away. I cannot safely wash whites now in the machine, months on. Despite scrubbing, small particles keep emerging that damage clothes. This is not the first time I bought this by the way; I have tried this before twice with vague results but thought I’d try one more time. I obviously now regret that decision, as this is the worst attempt yet. I would say try alternatives and avoid this product

So disappointed
I haven't dyed anything for years which was a success many years ago with some clothes. This time I thought I would dye some expensive satin sheets and quilt cover grey, well they came out mottled and ruined. So then to try and save this disaster I decided to order the black dye in the hope this might cover up the problem, but unfortunately it did not. I now have this tiered dye effect with a very dark green at the top of the quilt which then tapers off towards the end of the quilt. I am completely baffled how it ended up green and there was no even colour coverage, I had so little in the drum and especially the second time. I wouldn't mind someone from Dylon calling me to explain why this happened. Note I have never written a bad review before, I usually just wouldn't bother, but this dye does seem to be hit and miss from the other review.

Unfortunately something went very wrong.
Following the instructions was easy enough. We wanted to dye a few items that were originally black but now fading to grey. Unfortunately that was not the result that we got. The pants (98% cotton fabric) came out in a strange blue-black tie dye look. To be fair it kind of looks cool, but these were meant to be all black for work... And the jacket (80% cotton) came out with strange red-brown ish patches in the washed out black... Furthermore it also left residue in our washing machiene that is proving difficult to remove... I'm not sure what went wrong, but I will be going back to liquid stove-top dye, it's more work but I've never had unexpected issues like this. On hind sight, we probably added too much fabric for the one dye pod, but because all the items were already black I thought the bit of extra dye would be enough for everything to become black again. I never expected that the pod would somehow REMOVE colour from the clothes that came out less black than they went in... Quite disappointing.

Rubbish product
Oh how I wished I'd read the other poor reviews for this item. I used this yesterday on 4 small items (vest tops and 1 tee) which were black but just faded slightly. I just wanted to bring them back to a nice solid black again. First of all. I followed the instructions exactly and it made absolutely no difference to colour of my clothes. Secondly (and worst of all) I'm pretty sure my washing machine will never be the same again. After several empty hot cycles, the rubber door seal is still heavily marked with black dye. I have now scrubbed this by hand and with a little bleach and STILL there is black coming off! I'm so mad and I'm dreading doing my next wash. i can't believe Dylon are allowed to sell this rubbish. Please save your money (and your washing machine) and don't bother buying this.

Avoid - Still remnants of the Dye in the washing machine, destroyer our clothes
A month after using this product on a denim jacket, and the dye has raised its ugly head again, hurried within the washing machine somewhere, must be remnants of the dye. Now my partner's clothes are showing up with black specs of dye on them, and I'm in the dog house!! Followed the instructions to the letter... Gave the item a wash, when the item was damp, used the dye with the item, after the washer finished, gave the item a wash... After the wash had finished, used some washer cleaner and gave it a 90 wash... Then had to clean the rubber seals with bleach. Copious amounts of washes later (a month on) and have just realised it's still embedded in the washer. May need to strip the washer, and or replace parts... Currently the washer is on a bleachy boil wash.

Works perfectly if you follow the instructions.
Easy - less hassle than it used to be! No salt, no mess, no fuss. Pop in clothes (no more than 600g of fabric per pod) and the pod and run a 40 degree cycle. True black - no issues at all. I used 2 pods for 3 separate pieces across 2 loads. All came out perfectly.

Easy to use - fresh black shirts
Did the job, wanted to re-black some black some shirts. Clear easy to follow instructions. I was scared a little about black residue on my other clothes but followed the instructions about how many cycles to do, including the empty one and it was fine. Would buy again.

It works if you follow the directions
I've used this dye three times - to dye faded grey jeans to blue, and to dye clothes back to black. You need to read the directions and have enough dye to dye the amount of clothes. The first time, I didn't order enough dye, so the 2nd & 3rd times I bought 3 blue pods to dye 2 pairs of jeans, and 5 pods to dye 2 pairs of black jeans & a shirt. I have a front loading washing machine. I followed the instructions as given, washing the clothes first. Because I had multiple pods, I opened up the pods & poured the contents of the pods directly in the machine (this is what the instructions say). I used gloves the entire time as the dyes will stain your hands. I ran 4 loads total. To get the dyes out of the washing machine, I used bleach in the last cycle I ran. I also had to wipe down the washing machine with paper towels that had bleach on them. The dye job was perfect and I'm buying more black dye now for another set of clothes. YES buy this if you have a front loading machine.
