Dog Mate Medium Dog Door for Medium Dogs, Self-lining to 50mm, White

Bought one of these dog flaps around 2 and a half years ago and we're still delighted with it. Inexpensive but actually very good quality for the money. Pic shows it a bit grubby (2 cockapoos generate a lot of muddy traffic) but once it's clean it's pretty much like new. Relatively easy to fit - you'll need a jigsaw ideally - the only fiddly bit really was cutting the bolts to the correct length. Other than that, installation was straight-forward. Was initially a bit worried by some of the reviews about the flap opening in the wind - however we've had no problems at all, I can only imagine those who have, must have had doors directly exposed to strong winds. Also unlike for other reviewers, our cockapoos have shown no sign of wanting to chew the surround - again I guess it depends on whether your dog is a chewer. Our dogs have also adapted really well to using the flap, in and out of it all day. Can't imagine not having it - looks like it's been part of the back door forever. Very pleased.

Excellent pet flap. It’s sturdy, I like the little pet window, and the removable flap is great. The price is good but doubled when I had someone in to install it. Well worth having though and my Jack Russell pup loves it… she charges in and out, even in the rain, and jumps on my lap with the dog equivalent of ‘aren’t I clever! Now that deserves a sweetie!!’

The product is as described, top quality.

This is a top quality dog door and is highly recommended. The Medium unit suits my Tibetan Terrier (about 16 inches to the shoulder) well, and the cat is able to use it easily too. It has draft-proofing around the flap, and magnets to hold the flap closed against all but the strongest winds. The flap itself cannot be locked, but there is a separate security panel that slides and locks into place on the inside of the door. This needs to be removed completely and stored elsewhere when not in use. However, installation is not particularly easy! It's crucial that the bolt holes are drilled through at exactly 90-degrees to the door. The final assembly process definitely needs two people (one either side of the door) and it's fiddly to get all the components to align properly before tightening the bolts. You'll need to use masking tape to temporarily hold the lining panels in position as suggested in the instructions. A vice, hacksaw and metal file are required to cut the bolts to length. It's worth the effort though - this is a great product.

Just what I needed to replace current door.

If you came here from the Staywell door, then you've made the right choice. I replaced the draughty, noisy Staywell medium door for the DogMate medium. They are both nearly the same size, so the hole in the door was perfectly covered by DogMate. Plenty of thick trim included - easy to cut to size - and a nice firm seal around the edges. The draft exclusion trim and strong embedded magnet mean the door closes quietly, and stays closed in a gale. No breeze around the edges. The edging seems tough enough for my Jackpom and Pomchi to race through. The dogs aren't able to get at the embedded magnet or chew it, so it's safe for puppies (unlike the staywell brand). It looks tidy and smart, with a slide down cover to stop the dogs getting out overnight or strays getting in. Value for money. Haven't you bought this door yet? You can do it alone, but two people holding it in place can screw the whole thing together in less time than it takes to read this review.

I bought this to fit into a garage wall for our Springer & Jackapoo. The bigger dog the springer, is a big springer too and it's fine with him. And our little one has no problems with it either. The instructions state you will need some plastic for gaps bigger than 50mm i think, which is true, although i've not done that yet. We fitted into a brick wall. It has a plastic sliding "plate" on the inside to prevent it from being used, that drops into place, and can only be removed from the inside, so makes it more secure than say our catflap. The dogs both use it, and it seems to be standing up well to use. It doesn't have any other locking on it (apart from that mentioned above), unlike our catflap. but i don't think it needs it. I t was simple to fit, even into brick. Quite literally the cut out and then 4 securing screws. pleased with it

The removable door. Is difficult to put in place and it is flimsy. I expect it will break. That’s disappointing.

Gutes Teil. Wurde im Nebengebäude eingebaut, da da Zugluft nicht stört. Unsere Border Collie Hündin hat es gleich angenommen. Die Katze geht leider nicht durch.
