I ordered this double socket external rcd socket with cover. I actually needed it for inside my garage to replace a single socket which didn't have an rcd protector inbuilt. I found it really easy to install but it would have been nice to have been supplied with screws and rawl plugs to fit it to a wall. I purchased it when it was on offer at just under £15 so it is really good value. I was also pleased to see that the screws to tighten the cables were good quality as I've wired sockets before and they are awful. Once fitted I put a plug into the socket and it fitted well and wasn't tight and it was easy to pull the plug back out. I did read other reviews that states it's u performance is not great and that the sockets have cracked but as I've installed this into my garage this would not be an issue for me.

It feels robust, secure, and genuinely built for the kind of weather we get here in Scotland. I first installed it when I needed a reliable outdoor power source for garden lights, a pressure washer and Christmas decorations. From the moment I wired it in and switched it on, I knew this socket was different — the cover is solid and seals tightly, so I didn’t have to worry about rain, frost, or splashes from sprinklers. The double socket design is very handy — I can run two devices at once without needing extra adapters or trailing leads. The 13 Amp output gives enough power for most garden tools and outdoor appliances. I purchased this Stormproof Masterplug Socket to run my pond pump. I decided that I needed a switch near the pond so I could quickly isolate the pump if anything went wrong with the electrics. This socket was easy to fit to a long extension lead, I just pushed out a pre-made hole cover in the bottom of the back box and fitted a waterproof cable gland that I already had, threaded the cable through the gland and into the box and connected the cable to the rear of the socket. The socket part was screwed tightly to the back box and the screw heads were hidden by grey plastic plugs supplied. I did not attach the unit to anything as I did not want to compromise the integrity of the box by drilling screw holes in it, the manufacturer does supply a number of rubber grommets with the unit that you can use to keep any holes, you do drill for screws, waterproof. After plugging the unit into the mains it was just a matter of testing the circuit breaker to make sure it is working correctly and then plugging the pond plug into one of the two sockets, switching the socket on and the closing the cover and latching it shut. It's a bit of a hard squeeze to lock both latches properly but it does make sure the bad weather is kept out but I would not want to keep opening and closing the cover. Since I have started using this socket we have had a couple of major storms but the device has remained waterproof, stormproof even. This in my opinion is a well made, tough and rugged piece of equipment that should in normal use give many years of service.

Fantastic competitive price. The construction is premium and the product is well thought out. When fully opened the item will lock out for easy access whilst using the socket, it is clear the product is well waterproofed and I have no doubt that this will remain the case. The quality of the electrical connections are made with good quality screws, alongside a reliable robust locking clips, and good exit waterproofing for plugged in devices. It all appears to be up there with the quality of the best electrical outlets available. Electrically tested all okay, nothing less than I would of expected. Consider, using flexicore twin and earth with a plug on the end, you have the added option to plug this into a smart plug that opens a world of options of garden lights, pond water features, festive lights etc, not to mention you could turn off when you're away and there's no risk of someone helping themselves to your electric. Additionally, it is safer with the extra fuse (in the plug), plus it no longer becomes notifiable as you are not running continuous live outdoors. Be sure to check that your consumer unit (fuse board) the circuit it is on has a RCD!

Good product

Bought this unit to fit outside my property to supply power to a hot tub, some outdoor lighting and my lawnmower/strimmer and thus far I cant fault it. Fitting is simple for anyone with a basic knowledge of electrics, I ran a spur from an existing socket inside the house that backed onto the external wall. You can run the new cable in from either the top, bottom or rear of the unit and convenient punch out holes are already there. I opted to use the rear one as this completely hides the cable, only thing to bear in mind is that no rubber grommets are provided to fit round the cable/punch out hole to protect the cable from the rough edge and prevent water ingress, all in all not a big deal as its not going to be moving much and it does sit quite flush with the wall so chance of water ingress is likely to be minimal when using the rear or bottom ingress points. But still its good practice in wiring such things to use these grommets and it would have cost the manufacturer pennies to provide one with the unit but that's just me being picky and hence the only reason I dropped 1 star, however the unit will work fine without one. Anyway I just popped to screwfix and bought a pack of 100 from for about £2 so I have 99 spare for any future jobs!! So all fitted and wired up I tested the RCD and works fine, we have had some moderate rain since I installed it and no sign of any water ingress through either the rear mounting box or the cover for the plugs thus far but Im confident it will stay watertight as the seals etc seem pretty robust, I will update if Im proved wrong. No problems leaving the lighting and hot tub plugged in and closing/sealing the unit, there is also a hole to padlock the unit shut to prevent tapering but I have not used this as it is located in a secure back garden but where the padlock hole is located it would make it difficult for anyone to get tools into it to cut the lock, however as the cover is only plastic if someone was determined to get in they could easily just pry/cut it off the cover with a screwdriver/hacksaw, but it would certainly be enough to stop anyone playing silly bu***rs and just unplugging your stuff. All in all very happy with it and it does the job well, hopefully it will last, I can definitely recommend.
