Excellent, light, typical Samsonite
Having travelled the world routinely on business, had multiple gold frequent flier cards simultaneously, and owned Tumi, Travelpro and other premium brands, I've finally settled on Samsonite as my luggage of choice. Why? Excellent quality that matches those other brands but at a reasonable price. I have a hard shell carry-on and a suit carrier bought in 1996 that refuse to die and still look good. But my last family-size softshells - bought in 2004 - finally gave up the ghost this year after sterling service on all holidays across a number of continents, so a replacement set was needed. So having bought three of these and taken them to NYC for a family holiday, I can report that Samsonite continue to be my luggage of choice. Here's why. Firstly, excellent construction. These have a tough polycarbonate base and back frame that, with the wire soft frame, provide a case you'd feel comfortable packing fragile items, albeit padded by clothes. We managed to bring back some really nice Chinese earthenware without probems. They also look cool, typically unostentatious Samsonite. The outer skin is hard-wearing yet good looking and the expansion facility is genuinely useful. This is finished with a slick TSA-compliant lock that makes each zipper pull do double duty as locking tabs. Neat. Secondly, they carry and travel with ease. The pull out aluminium tow bar is reassuringly rigid and positive in action; the wheels simply glide effortlessly whether vertical or tilted; even the side carry handle is well thought out, being highly comfortable, yet distributing the strain to the frame, rather than the side of the case. But finally, it does all this while being light - and I mean very very light. These are amongst the lightest in class. With air travel nowadays having almost everything as an optional extra, and the gradual erosion of luggage allowances, this was a huge boon for us, allowing us to pack two weeks of luggage yet still have both the space and weight allowance left over to get everything under our 23kg allowance upon return (with the usual carry-on canniness in packing). ;) What's not to like? Well, they're not "fashionable". Sure they look sleek and classy, but they don't stand out. Not important for me. And maybe you could say the style is a little anonymous. But frankly, after so many years of travel, I no longer care. So, another excellent product. I'll give it a perfect 5 stars after 5 years use.

Simple, Smart and Sturdy
Very light, but seemingly sturdy suitcase. Looks smart. Probably not the most secure suitcase ever, but does have a combination lock. The front (outside) pocket is very tight do not much use for anything other than papers etc.

Bought two, both broke, they asked me for more money to reclaim my warranty
Bought two of these, one for myself and one for my girlfriend. They worked okay for a couple of trips, although the brackets holding on the wheels were clearly a bit wobbly. However, soon enough the handle of my girlfriend case broke and was stuck in the fully outstretched position. This was pretty bad because it makes it impossible to put the case into a luggage rack on a train and makes it a nightmare to take through an airport. This suitcase was now essentially useless. Shortly after that, the wheels on my case started to fail. Despite relatively infrequent use, the wheels were basically breaking apart as if they were made of felt Eventually, one wheel ripped apart and fell off entirely. The other back wheel got jammed so it wouldn't turn and was essentially sanded in half by friction with the ground (see the pictures). This suitcase was now a nightmare to take anywhere because I would have to literally drag it on stumps over the ground. Also, it was impossible to stand it up straight. With only one more use after that, the handle of my suitcase became stuck in the same way as that of my girlfriend's. Upon inspection of hers, the same problems with the wheels had also begun to show. Both cases were now completely unusable about 1.5 years after purchase. They had about 5 trips under their belt each at this point. At this point I relented and began the warranty process. Samsonite offers 3, 5, and 10 year warranties on their products, so this case was covered (although I don't know whether it had a 3 or 5 year warranty). I sent an email to Samsonite customer service with pictures much like those attached to this review. I received a reply telling me: "Your suitcase would need to be inspected by the service centre at Maidenhead to determine the defect on your suitcase. The technician needs to clarify if your suitcase is a material or manufacturing defect. The Service centre can arrange a chargeable collection. Alternatively, you can despatch the suitcase to the Samsonite Service Centre yourself. You are however responsible for all transport costs, or you can take your case to the store that you have purchase it from and the store would be able to help you." They wanted me to send off my suitcase with my own money in order for them to inspect it, with no promise of me receiving my money back. Essentially, they wanted my to pay them for telling me to sod off! I told them I wouldn't do that and asked for my warranty again. They replied: "Please be aware that if you wish to pursue a refund, this will need to be taken up with Amazon from which your case was purchase, as this is where your contract lies." This is a lie as I do not have a contract with Amazon. I have a contract with them, since they are the suppliers of the warranty. They then said: "The service center had a look at the pictures and they have advise that the wheels is not covered under the warranty this is not material or manufacturing defect, it is wear and tear that is the finding of what they can see on the pictures. Or alternative you can order Spare Parts and check availability for parts from our website https://www.supportandgo.com/Brand/Samsonite Please go onto supportandgo and order your Spareparts. The full product code is required to process an order." I will never buy a Samsonite product again and I advise you do not either. I bought two cases and they both broke in exactly the same ways while used by different people, which indicates that the cases are of poor contruction (indeed independent review sites note the same issues). The warranty clearly counts for nothing and is only there to give a false sense of security to buyers. If you are thinking of purchasing this case, buy a cheaper one instead - it will last you longer.

Very Light and Manouverable
Needed a new case to last me a week for a business trip, and decided this was the one - I am not disappointed - in terms of size, it's one up from a cabin bag, its a very lightweight case, with great expansion capability - which I didn't need. Love the addition of the strap holders for when you are packing - you know how you always pack stuff on top of the retention straps and have to fish them out - on this case there are 2 holders for those straps to prevent this. what did I pack - 2 suits, 2 pairs of trousers, 5 shirts, 4 T-shirts, 7 days worth of smalls, A gimble, my IT stuff (a lot of cables, adapters and a mouse), my large toiletries bag, PJ's . . and I still had a ton of space without expanding it! Came back scuffed, but the scuffs have rubbed out so its as good as new again!
