Does this make fingerless gloves? And what is it like for dropping stitches

Yes , this machine will drop stitches BUT only if you use the wrong thickness of wool. Plain Double knit and 4 ply wools work best as they go through the needles smoothly. Decorative wools e.g. Boucle, glitter, fluffy, etc, are best not used as some of the fibres can catch on the needles. Yes, fingerless gloves are easily made on this machine. I work 125 rounds and use the cast on cast off edges next the fingers. Double your tube and stretch the cast on/cast off edges as wide as you can without straining the wool. Next sew the inner and outer edges of the tube together. Finally join two sides together between the thumb and the fingers.

Which is better prym or addi? Please help! (I have never bought a knitting mill)

I much prefer Addi. It feels sturdier than the Prym, and does not have a handle over the top so it's easier to get at the work. If you want to knit adult sized hats, go for the addi kingsize. The professional (small one 22 needles) is fine for doll/newborn hats, Christmas bells, skinny scarves and the like, but the bigger one is more versatile.

Can you use sock yarn? Like really fine yarn? Or would the fabric be too holey?

No , you can use sock yarn as long as you keep a steady tension, not too tight. I have made fingerless gloves using sock yarn and doubling up the tube. Knit 130 rows for a nice length. Sew together finger side. Good luck.
