There are about eight colours within the 4001 range and they are fairly routine; the lighter tones of blue, green and the yellow-orange group are wholly absent. The entire range is regarded as slow-flowing or 'dry' and consequently an excellent match to their own range of fountain pens which are considered to be very wet writers regardless of nib grades. As most major Western brand pens (Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer, Cross) are also regarded as 'wet', Pelikan's inks could be a very good match to any of them. The black ink is very intense, a 'solid' colour that does not show any transparency as may be experienced with many other black inks.
