Review: Amazing once dialled in properly - This has been such a good purchase for me. I own a pair of Q Acoustics M20 powered speakers which are excellent in the highs and mids but lack bass for the size of room they are in. I read the reviews of this and had high hopes and they haven't disappointed. I'm sure there are better much more expensive subs out there but for my ears these are perfect. They need some setting up and dialling in to get bright but once this was complete they made my speakers sound perfect. Just enough bass coming in so they don't sound boomy but give music extra depth and presence. For ref I have the QA M20s in a 4mx5m room with little soft furnishings so it was difficult for them to fill the room, however now it sounds perfect. The crossover frequency give you control over when the sub should add more bass. The volume controls how much and how loud. I had to have the crossover set to 85 as anything below just wasn't pronounced enough, volume at half to three quarters and Phase sound better at 180. Brilliant for the price.
Review: Taking my home hifi to another level by inleashing the sub frequencies. - Really pleased with my recent purchase of Diamond SW150 subwoofer. Started researching subs to enhance my already great sounding home hifi. I'm running Alpha 8 integrated amp, Alpha 8 power amp bi wired to pair of B&W DM610 speakers, Alpha 7SE CD and ProJect Xpression turntable. Existing system always amazing sounding but I knew the DM610 stand mounted speakers couldn't give me all the lower frequencies a good set of floor standing speakers would. Unfortunately my room just doesn't allow for a big set of floor standers especially if ideally placed way out from the wall. I was looking for alternatives to improve my sound. So I didn't really know much about subs until recently, thought they were mainly for home cinema or car systems where the main speakers tend to be smaller. Then came across couple of online articles / videos discussing the merits of a sub in a home hifi system. I read lost of reviews and this Wharfdale consistently came out favorably, especially at such a great price.. They were £250 when first release 10 years ago and What HFi gave an excellent review at the time even at that price point. All i can saw is WOW, cannot believe i didn't discover the use of a sub in my set up earlier. The difference to my already excellent sounding set up is huge. I listen to a wide range of music from electronic to jazz although the majority is rock / guitar based. Obviously on electronic dance music, dub, electronica etc the subs presence is really felt. All the huge low end is really brought too life but even on classic rock where the overall effect is less "obvious" so much new sonic information is highlighted. The kick drums for instance, the sense of air being moved by the bass as felt when you are actually in a room with the band. It is really night and day switching the sub on and off whilst playing back almost any style of music. The reviews here on desertcart did have a few conflicting points. Firstly a few people mentioned hum or noise from the sub in either standby or low level in the background. I can confidently say mine is absolutely silent. No hum. I can only assume those who have reported this must have a connection or other compatibility issue within their set ups. Check all connections, quality of cable etc. There seemed also to be some confusion regarding wiring the sub into a system without a dedicated sub output. This is just not a problem at all. If running from an amplifier you simply attach a separate set of speaker wires from the amps left and right speakers out to the subs speaker left and right ins. On my Bi Wired set up i did this from the power amp as thats handling all my low end information. Finally setting up the sub itself was very simple. Connected to my system as detailed above the subs volume is adjusted by the amp. The sub does however have its own volume on the back and this is to adjust it to blend in with the other speakers. A well set up sub should blend in with the overall sound stage and not draw attention to itself. I have mine set at about 3/4 on the volume. Turning it up too high makes it too dominant and too low just lessens its affect. The final control on the sub is the crossover. This is the point that the subs frequencies work up to. Ideally you want a crossover of frequencies between the lowest end of your main speakers and the upper end of the sub. My B&W go down to about 55hz. The sub from 20hz up to around 100. I set the crossover at 65 hz on the sub and this creates a seamless blend in the lower frequencies. These settings seemed very common on all the online tutorials i looked at. I am literally rediscovering my entire music collection with this sub now in my system.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this sub better than Corsair's SP2500 sub with a Yamaha A-S501? Does it give a 'chest-thumping' bass at high enough volumes?**
A: The Diamond is powerful, majestic and has a quality HiFi performance. For chest thumping sound you need a lime green Corsa:-)

**Q: does it have left and right in to go in sony amp**
A: Yes, remember this can be a dedicated active woofer which you can connect to one of its one of the two output for Sub-woofer from yor 7.2 Sony amplifier

**Q: Is this subwoofer well built? I'm a big lover of lows and wish to buy two of these.. and place an 18KG Xarus 5000 on each. Cheers**
A: yes you will be VERY happy with this sub... its very well built & goes low,, fantastic value

**Q: Mine has a constant hum from the Power Supply unit (even when not connected to receiver). Is this normal?**
A: Try an extension lead with EMI & RFI filtering and loop the signal leads round in ferrite filters, if you're using them on a home cinema amp try getting hold of mini AC plugs that fit the switched sockets on the back then they will be cut off when the main amp is on standby... the hum is something you might also hear on the main speaker channels if you have a turntable on your system plugged into a phono stage on the amp, and if this is the case it's something you have hooked up causing it, in the past I had bother with phono ground noise caused by an audio cd recorder, Aiwa VCR, grundig satellite and a pace sky digibox 1, technics MD recorder also caused it while the Sony MD didn't...

Power line ethernet adapters and power line WiFi extenders, power line smarthome products that inject damaging radio frequency interference and noise into power lines cause this (BT WiFi extender disc with the hub 8 & direct fibre doesn't use the power lines so that won't cause it), try unplugging things hooked up to the amp first and you might identify what's causing it, I've never had anything to complain about with wharfdale in 30 years of using their products

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality and sound at a very reasonable price
*by M***N on 9 January 2026*

Didn’t really want to spend the earth on a sub so this was at a decent price point for me. Sounds fantastic to my ears. I have volume set quite low but it still rumbles the floors and adds that extra something during action sequences in movies that you can’t get without a sub. I think quality and sound are great at this price and you really are on the diminishing returns point once you go up much from here - or that’s my opinion.
