Amazing pen
Bought this for my girlfriend as she really wanted a brush pen to do pencil-less sketching and ink drawings (Now she is using it for inktober). The pen took a while to get here but it is from Japan so that was to be expected, however the tracking was kept up to date and it arrived when it said it would. The pen is easy to use after a bit of practice with controlling lines and pressure but once you get the hand of it, it is an amazing tool to have.

Brush tip is awesome, red ring is hard to remove
The ink is deep and black, and you can control the flow rate yourself both by how hard you press and how hard you squeeze. The brush tip is excellent quality and can be reformed if distressed. Only problem I’ve encountered is that I wasn’t able to remove the red ring before use. Im not entirely sure what the ring does, because it appears I’ve popped whatever seal was in place trying to unscrew the cartridge to remove the ring, and now ink is flowing anyway. It doesnt work amazingly well, presumably because I still have the red ring in place, but I dont really have any choice but to use all the ink up before attempting to remove it again, lest I get ink everywhere. Pretty disappointing first use because of that. Its not fancy looking, its all function and has a cheaper plastic feel, but I’ve used many brush pens before, and the brush itself is the highest quality I’ve ever used. So while it hasn't been the greatest of experiences so far, Im looking forward to the refill to get it working correctly

Very solid product but caution needed
This is a very robust feeling product and the ink flow and colour is really excellent. You do need to be careful though if you’re a first-time user like me, as when you release the ring that blocks the ink flow, it can come out fast! I got the medium-sized brush and it’s really difficult as a novice to use it for the size of average handwriting (if you know what I mean). It requires practice to be able to write at a normal handwriting size but if that’s what you’re determined to be able to do, you’ll do it. The characters look lovely in this ink and the brush is really good for the dynamics between thick and thin strokes. Enjoy writing your 汉子! 👍🙂

Excellent for east Asian calligraphy
The pen comes with a brush of perfect size for small characters writing. The synthetic bristle is still not as good as the real animal bristle on a traditional Chinese brush pen, however if taking the portability / ease of maintenance into consideration, I am perfectly happy with this pen. Will buy more when my current ones run out.

Great for drawing with variable line
I came back for this review as it was my fault I did not push well enough to get a good ink flow. Once that happened, the pen is very smooth. So changed my review to 5 stars now, it;s a special thing, absolutely recommend. My pen was in size M.

Just received the brush pen today and I love it! Works like a charm with good ink flow and strokes feel good. I don't draw with traditional mediums but I still do calligraphy with the old school brush and ink well. For that reason I figured I'd try something a little different. While this isn't a complete replacement for my traditional calligraphy tools, it's still pretty darn close. The ink inside is not quite the same consistency as my calligraphy ink (more like the ink you find in ink pens) so it's less viscous than what I'm used to. I tried to do some calligraphy on traditional rice paper but if you don't write quickly enough the ink will start to bleed making the strokes look weird. Seems like thicker paper is the way to go. I do really like the convenience of the pen though so I might bring this with me to pass time between my classes. On a side note, I thought I'd mention that while the instructions are in Japanese, you should still be able to do the first time set up without problems. There are pictures clearly showing what to do so you should be fine. The text in Japanese basically describes the picture (top: twist off barrel, remove red ring, put barrel back) (bottom: squeeze gently to bring out ink). Emphasis on gently! The ink comes out faster than you may think and if you squeeze too hard it will overflow and you'll end up having it drip off the tip. I haven't had the need to keep squeezing to get more ink out as I write either. Maybe if you do heavy ink work and need to fill out large areas, you'll need to squeeze? I'm not sure how long the ink barrel will last me so I'll update here when it runs out (though it seems you can just buy ink of your choice and fill it yourself, but I doubt Asian calligraphy ink will be suitable) and will also be sure to update review if I have anything else to say.
