Manuscript Pen Company MC1155LA Deluxe Calligraphy Set

I have a set of dip pens for caligraphy, but sometimes it's nice to just have a ready to go pen for letters and suchlike. This pen feels a bit cheap to be honest. The plastic cap and barrel are quite light and feel a little tight, so it's a little difficult to close the tip and barrel and lid. The nibs are decent quality and write smoothly without dripping or spotting and even the cheap small ink cartridges will fit. The ink converter works well, but also feels cheap and a little fragile, so needs a bit of care when filling from a bottle. As a set to help a young person learn calligraphy, or as a quick use pen for letter writing or journal notes these are ideal for the task. So far nothing has broken, much to my surprise so it appears to be robust enough for teenager abuse. The nibs supplied with the pen are basic but no copperplate tip is included unfortunately, although a standard tip for general handwriting is. Overall, for the price, this is not a bad set and is extremely useful for teaching young people and teenagers to write with a fountain pen and use general calligraphy. For people wanting to get deeply into various forms of calligraphy and handwriting I would suggest a dip pen set as they invariably have a much wider selection of tips. This is a fine starter set though. It is unfortunate in my opinion that fountain pens are not generally used these days, as they offer a much more attractive hand writing form than the common gel/biro style pens that litter every desk today. Delivery was very quick, and the product was nicely packaged against postal abuse.

I AM SO PLEASED WITH THIS PEN SET and it's value for money. You receive 6 different nibs and 4 different coloured inks. I've been looking for a set like this for a very long time, but they were always so expensive. when I saw the price of this set I didn't hesitate to buy it. I spent the whole afternoon, hours practicing with the pens and I only stopped because the time had got away from me. I would highly recommend buying these pens and urge anyone it's not worth paying anymore money, I don't honestly think you could get better.

This pen arrived very quickly. And when I mean VERY I mean I ordered it on a Monday and it arrived on the Thursday. I also bought this pen with 30 ink cartridges which were sold separate. The pen has a nice look to and with various sizes is worth it. The pen has a nice hold and make feels sturdy. I am a student and found this really helped to make my various handwritten coursework look a hell of a a lot nicer. The ink does spread though on the page and creates a small lighting effect but does not blot easily. Overall a very nice pen with a very nice case and looks excellent

It could be the way I write, but I found the ink to not be as free flowing as I would wish. However I do primarily use this set for drawing as I don't like dip pens, although when I have written with it, the ink is more free flowing but not as much as one would like. The ink can be patchy. I did want to give the set a 3.5. The box it comes in is very handy to make sure nothing is lost.

Great product, better than Works

Given the price, it's a great purchase! The pen does feel a bit plasticky, but seeing as I paid GBP 10 for 6 nibs and a full pen set I really can't complain! The nibs are good quality, and the package includes both a refillable ink cartridge as well as four different colour ink capsules - truly great value for money. If you're not sure about calligraphy or want to give it a shot before properly investing, this set is definitely worth the money! Highly recommended, I've only just had it delivered and I've already fallen in love with it.

This manuscript set if great, comes with a variety of nib types that give broad to narrow calligraphy effects. The pen and nib bodies are all plastic, so light to hold and use (so don't expect a heavy weighted fountain pen), but work very quickly with the coloured inks provided. The best thing is that you can swap these nibs for left handed versions if required - a super service (though it would be good to offer a few lefties at point of sale!).

I am a novice at calligraphy but this pen works really well. It doesn't leak and the ability to use bottled ink as well as cartridges is a plus. Haven't used all the nibs yet but so far the ones I have used have worked well. Need some practice before I can use it for writing my wedding invites but I'll get there! Really good value too.
