The "Best Chess Set Ever," boasting new modern style pieces and an XL 4X quadruple weight, is not just a chess set; it's a fusion of elegant design and exceptional functionality. Awarded a shining five-star rating, this set elevates the classic game of chess into a stylish and tactile experience, appealing to both avid players and aesthetic connoisseurs. Right out of the box, the first thing that strikes you is the modern design of the pieces. They are sleek, with clean lines and a contemporary flair that breathes new life into the traditional game. The aesthetics of these pieces make the set not just a game but a statement piece, a work of art that's equally at home on a coffee table or in the heat of a tournament. The XL 4X quadruple weight of the pieces is a game-changer, quite literally. This added heft provides a satisfying feel in the hand, enhancing each move with a sense of importance and precision. It's the tactile equivalent of a firm handshake – confident, reassuring, and substantial. The weight also ensures stability, keeping the pieces firmly rooted on the board even in the midst of intense gameplay. The board itself is a testament to quality craftsmanship. The contrast between the squares is clear yet subtle, ensuring that the focus remains on the pieces and the play. In addition to its aesthetic and tactile appeal, this chess set is a nod to the timeless nature of the game. It respects the rich history of chess while bringing a fresh, modern twist that makes it relevant and appealing in a contemporary setting. TL;DR: The "Best Chess Set Ever" with its new modern style pieces and XL 4X quadruple weight is a beautifully designed and functional chess set. Its contemporary aesthetics, satisfying piece weight, and quality board earn it five stars, making it a top choice for both serious players and those who appreciate the finer things in life.

5 Star Value, 5 Star Customer Service
First, I would like to mention I was accidentally shipped the XL version of this product. So I was a bit surprised by the size of the pieces even though I think the normal set is decently large. I did not think it was necessarily worth spending the time to return the product for replacement. I emailed the warranty support (1 year is included btw), asking for comparison pictures to see if it was worth it. I was astounded that they offered to send me the ENTIRE 3x (reg edition) size pieces without any need for returns. I decided after playing I got used to the XL pieces and thought this was too generous of them, but that is awesome customer service. Let me say also I have come to get used to and love the pieces. I can't compare them to normal but a toddler dropped my extra queen from a high chair around 4 feet or so and there was no issues. Was almost more concerned for the floor! haha The silicone board is different but nice. I haven't had one before. I will let you know that it does tend to collect debris and hairs easily. However, I googled tips on cleaning a silicone board and it is relatively easy. It is 20x20 tournament regulation and comes with notation. Another big point about a silicone board is you are relying on whatever surface or table you put it on. I do have 2 slight creases in my board that didn't seem to fix per the recommended 24 hour leave-out. They are slight and do not bother me enough however I would bet that customer service would replace this as well if they did not have anymore tips. The pieces are nice, rugged, and weighty (again mine are 4x - XL edition of this product). They have a velvet bottom and are not designed to slide across the board if you love to do that. Because of the pieces' ruggedness it feels okay to throw them in the bags provided without any worry of damaging them. One of the best features about this board, and why it's currently my most used board, is how quick and easy it is to pack/unpack and play. Throw the pieces in bags when packing, dump them out when unpacking. It does not feel like you need to be gentle. Instructions on how to fold board are included and easy enough. Tri-fold, then double fold and you're done. Put your board in (I do mine like standing up against side wall of box), hold it and put in the two bags, and you're good to go. All-in-all I think this is an excellent value! Their customer service only further guaranteed this to be a 5 star review for me. Because of the early contact, I have full confidence in the year warranty as well, so keep that in mind if you are looking to buy the Best Chess Set Ever.

BEST CHESS SET EVER
Don’t listen to what anyone says about how “bad” this set is. Came almost week early, no defects in the set whatsoever or on the mat. Every piece is identical, colorful and big. The weight is perfect and they sound amazing. The mat can get dirty easily, but they make it super convenient to clean it with a damp sponge. It may be hard to carry the set in a backpack, instead simply take the mat, (which comes in a wrapped sheet and the 2 bags with the chess pieces for the simplest portability.

A perfectly balanced set of pieces. This is the tournament set to get!
Mighty and impressive. "Best Chess Set Ever" are not mere words of marketing puffery, this set delivers the goods with an excellent price point. The classic Staunton variant is bold and satisfying: The King is large, stately, and stable. The Queen rightly stands tall and elegant next to the King, with a crown of sharp menace. The Bishop's mitre seems to burn with a supernatural flame. The Knight appears wild and fierce with it's flying mane. The Rook is as stout and imposing as it's power would suggest, and is not just slightly taller than the pawn. The soulful pawn is well proportioned and sits as an anchor on their base. The mass of a whole 4x set sits just on the edge of "too large" for practical portability. Depending on your own preference, (and for me) the included 20x20 board might seem just a little too cramped of a battlefield for this set. Luckily, my 22x22 board provides almost the perfect proportion of space to suit my eye. The pieces are noticeably hefty and satisfying to hold. I also enjoy the rich, off-white color of the light pieces. No spoilers, but the little touches of detail were fun to find and appreciate. Effort was seen to the rule booklet and is appreciable, even if you don't need the book. When OTB with this set, even if your opponent crushes you, you might be consoled knowing that you'll at least look great in the process

Quality box, pieces, coloring. It’s a really nice set.
Really a nice set. Weighted pieces feel good. Color and feel of plastic is quality. It’s well worth the asking price. If you are on the fence, do it.

Fine enough set, but some real caveats on both the 4X and the 3X sets
I'll start with the good about the 4X weighted set (I bought and returned both the 3X and the 4X for reasons below). The 4X weighted set: heavy pieces, nice color, looked like a nice board (for silicone), and under the right circumstances, I'd have kept it. But I didn't because of the bad about it part. The bad part is that when I took the pieces out of the box to check out my new horses, BIG LETDOWN. The knights shown in the photo (see screenshot attached) for the 4X pieces are NOT the knights you will receive. They are not the Arabian style with the wild mane. They are the same horses you'd receive with the 3X weighted. So I didn't even undo the rest. I paid more $$ for the right knight, so back the 4X went, and I downgraded to the 3X. I never even took the board out, or I'd have found the problem that would have resulted in my return of the 3X set. Now about the 3X set... What's good about it: it costs less than the 4X set and there's no disappointment about the knight. Hard stop there, however. The color is a bright, plasticey white (not as nice as the 4X set), and much to my chagrin, I found out on the second go-round that neither are magnetic. So why did I think it was magnetic? Well, for the same reason I thought that I was getting the cool knights with the 4X set - the product information given. Hello, seller, fix that, please. In this case, the question "How do these pieces compare to typical magnetic chess pieces?" and answer is very misleading. Perhaps because I review contracts and parse words, the lack of clarity was more obvious to me. IDK, but when I read that Q&A, I thought that these were then "atypical magnetic chess pieces", heavier, etc., but also magnetic because never did the respondent say "oh, well, first of all, these are not magnetic, is a big reason they're different - they're different because they're not magnetic". A sentence along those lines would have been really, really helpful to me since I wanted a magnetic set (just starting to play and cats - magnetic is a must). So my misunderstanding, but hopefully, if you're reading this review, and you thought the set was magnetic, then you can save yourself the trouble. The 3X set was, IMO, more meh than the 4X set. Overall, if I had lots of room, no cats, didn't care about magnetic pieces, and could get over the disappointment about the knight, I'd probably have kept the 4x set, but I don't have $60 to toss at upper meh, and that's kinda where I landed on the 4x. I wouldn't get the 3x at all. I ended up getting a nice little travel set that is magnetic and has a green and white board (I've read green is supposed to help with learning). A heck of a lot less money, and it works for me because I can carry it around easily and obsess (I'm just starting to play, and I'm really, really awful, not even through all of the lessons yet, but I do plan to get to 'plain old awful' level someday, and that will make me really happy - just an amazing game.)

High-Quality Chess Set with a Portable Silicone Board
purchased this chess set, and overall, I’m quite satisfied with it. The size of the board and pieces is perfect, and the details on the figures are well-crafted, giving the set a quality and elegant look. However, there is one aspect that I didn’t like very much: the material of the board. It is made of silicone (or a similar material), which makes it flexible and portable, but it also has some downsides. For instance, it tends to attract lint and dust easily. Additionally, the pieces don’t slide smoothly as they would on a board made of vinyl or wood, which can affect the playing experience, especially for those used to making quick moves. Despite this, the set remains a great option for playing at home or taking it to different places without worrying about damage to the board. If the manufacturer offered a version with a more traditional material, it would be even better. In conclusion, this is a high-quality chess set with an attractive design and a convenient size, but the board’s material could be improved to enhance the overall playing experience.

The King Has A Cross in His Crown That Actually Looks Like A Cross Not Some Obscure Deformity!
I grew up playing with the Staunton Design where the King has a REAL AND CLEAR CROSS IN THE CROWN not some obscure deformity like most of the chess sets on the market. This chess set has an Authentic King and all the other pieces are beautifully designed as well. However, ChessHouse.com has the best looking king on the market. I bought a set from them that is identical with the one I have growing up. It is plastic and weighted. TheBestChessSetEver has the Silicone Board which is much more versatile than the cheap vinyl boards that have been around for decades. This chess set is great! The Silicone Board has a slight odor. The odor will subside if you leave it outside for a couple of days. The Silicone Board is nice and big (20" x 20") and is very flexible and waterproof. You can eat and drink while playing with no worries of any damage to the board or pieces. The pieces are Quad-Weighted so they are nice and heavy. You can play outside and not worry about the wind blowing the pieces off the board. I really like this chess set!

Absolutely the BEST Set at this (and even higher) price points!
Having recently retired, I recently began playing chess again after a 40+ year hiatus, and wanted a board to take travelling and to use outside on a deck or perhaps a picnic table while camping. After much research I chose this set (the XL quad-weighted set), based partly on the positive reviews here. It arrived in just a couple of days. This is every bit the excellent set other reviewers claim it to be. The plastic chess pieces are BIG, well-weighted, felted and molded in very pleasing detail. They are plastic but do not feel plasticky at all. The seams are very subtle, and the pieces, while plastic, feel like substantial, quality pieces in my hand. The white pieces are not white but rather a creamy ivory that is perfect for the white pieces as opposed to a stark and sterile pure white. Each set has its own drawstring pouch for storage. A serviceable little booklet on the fundamentals chess concepts/strategy is included, as well as a curious bag of crafter's googly eyes, which might be nice for kids but I wouldn't mess with the already nice presentation of the pieces by making them goofy. But that's just me. The silicon board (mat) is big, and is reversible (black/white and green/white) - a nice touch - and easy to roll up and store for travel. There are some folds and pinches in the surface that are obvious results of folding the material to fit the smallish box, which I wouldn't recommend, especially for any long period if time. I am currently laying the board flat with some weight on top to try to reduce the blemishes; if this doesn't work I will contact the seller to request a replacement of the mat. The manufacturer seems to already be aware of the potential for this sort of packaging-induced flaw, and does offer explicitly on a card included with the set to make right on any such flaws in the board and also the pieces. As this is my only gripe about the set, I am comfortable reviewing this as 5 stars given the excellent product and good customer service promise. It really IS worth every cent for the overall quality of the set (a much higher quality than my shaky chess game skills right now!). A recommendation to make excellent even better: A larger box or ideally, a tube, to contain the set without having to fold the board. Stuffing all this goodness repeatedly into a small box may eventually compromise the pieces and will compromise the mat. I picked up a $4 UPS 24" mailing tube to store the mat, and may later pick up a more robust plastic poster tube with shoulder strap for about $15. So many chess sets on Amazon, but for a quality outdoor-friendly and waterproof set with pieces you'd be proud to display on ANY board, you won't find as good or better at this price point. Well done, Gaylen Pyle, creator of the set! (and yes, I AM reading that serviceable little manual/strategy guide!). UPDATE: As expected, the seller was quick to process a replacement board, since some of the dings in the silicon mat didn't smooth out. I emailed their warranty people and all they needed was my order info and address and a few pics of the board. Then they promptly emailed me back to let me know my replacement is being shipped, directly from the manufacturer. The new mat was free of pinches or creases and shipped in a tube. Customer service the way it is supposed to be done. Great product, great service.
