This beauty can make the best coffee you ever had
***Update*** After couple months the coffee machine works fine. The stainless steel surface in general stays clean. The machine still looks great and very pro in our kitchen! However behind the machine, where the water container meets the stainless steel body there is a tiny spot of corrosion. It appeared at some point, but its not spreading (I hope not). Its behind the plastic clear water container so cant clean it. This is an amazing coffee machine. Its not cheap, but you do get what you pay for. The above removable dispenser-spout spreads the water more evenly on the coffee ground than the average machine would, this together with the correct temperature (92-96c) creates an incredibly smooth & delicious coffee. The same coffee grounds I've used on my previous coffee makers taste so much better on this, try it to believe it! Good tip from big coffee drinkers: if you make more cups for several people, its good to mix the coffee well with a spoon in the carafe. This applies to all filter coffee makers. Another tip: I know Melitta invented the coffee filters - and I do favour them above cheaper supermarket ones. The white ones are bleached with chlorine! Melitta are natural brown paper color, and the Gourmet ones cost around £2.50 for 80 filters here on Amazon UK. Pros I really like: - A LED light in the water container helps filling in low light - Buzzer when coffee is ready is cool - Drip protection works really well - Very quick brewing - plus filtered coffee is hot enough to be pleasant - The under 5 cup switch helps make smaller amounts coffee with good aroma - Easy to keep clean - Automatic switch off - no worry about leaving it on (as per new EU regulations I just read in the news! Some Moccamasters dont have this) Cons... - Price... BUT its much cheaper than similar Moccamasters/Tecnoworms. But offers very similar results - Electric cord is not very long, so you need a socket quiet close. I had to buy extra black extension from Amazon for few quids. - Durability: it looks very well made. But I put it under cons as I havent had it that long to confirm reliability (please see update above) I personally love this machine, its quick and brews just lovely smooth coffee. Spend on better coffee grounds or mill your own beans, and you will have coffee like no other! Personal experience? Im from Finland (biggest coffee drinkers in the world), most friends and family have Moccamasters and similar top models. I used the modern pot type machines (too gimmicky tastes and expensive), filter machines and stove heated espresso makers. I always look for the perfect cuppa when out and about, but Im very very happy to have one of the best coffee in my own house. And the price? Best in UK here on Amazon!

Seems like a good machine
I've only had this a short time but I am very happy with this coffee maker at the moment, but if that changes (hopefully it won't), I'll update this review later. The machine is simple to use, easy to clean, looks good and makes good coffee (obviously dependant on the quality of the coffee and the filter papers being used). I usually make 2-4 cups of coffee at a time and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for at least an hour, but if it has cooled a bit too much, I just pop the cup into the microwave for 20-30 seconds (I only drink black coffee, so I don't need the coffee to be scalding hot anyway). One particular feature I really do like is the fact that the top of the thermal carafe, which feels very well constructed, can easily be removed, making cleaning much easier. I also like the fact that many of these drip machines, including this one, use all the water from the tank, so the coffee is always made with fresh water. The timer feature is a nice bonus and in my case, will prove to be very useful for mornings where I have to get up early and have limited time to make my breakfast. My main criticism, and it is not just applicable to this specific manufacturer, is the labels that they insist on sticking on their products with really-strong adhesive. I had to use some white spirit to remove some of the residual glue on my coffee machine after I managed, with some difficulty, to remove the labels (especially the one attached to the filter holder, which was held on with very strong adhesive). The only other minor niggle is that even Melitta's own paper filters are a little too tall to easily fit in the machine, even after folding the filter papers along the seams as you are supposed to, so to make the process easier, I simply trim about 1/4 of an inch off the tops of the filters with a pair of scissors, before popping them into the filter holder. Would I buy this product again? Based on my initial experience, absolutely.

Perfect coffee with rich lasting aroma when brewing.
This machine really does look the part. The aromas it gives off are lush. The ease of use is good too. Only 4 stars as the filter system does drip once or twice when you take the pot out or put in. A little annoying. Would give it 4½ stars if possible. The coffee this machine make is truly lovely but it does depend on what coffee you use. But the misses and I both reckon its the aromas it gives off when brewing. We fill to 4-6 on the measurometer'rer with 5 table spoons of coffee makes 2 decent size mugs worth of perfect coffee. In fact whilst writing this review and talking about coffee. I need one now... All in all this machine is awesome. Just sad about the one or two drips. This machine would've got 5stars if it hadn't stated that it is drip free. Well worth the buy. No regrets so far.

Excellent machine - easy to use and fab coffee
have had this for a week so far and it has been a treat using it. We wanted a proper coffee machine for the office and chose this one after a lot if investigation. We are all 'proper' coffee drinkers here and had shortlisted several machines which seemed to check all the boxes. Since it arrived it has been used all week and has consistently produced amazing coffee - I buy my personal favourites from Starbucks. The flask container keeps the coffee hot for 2 hours if you fill it to the top - but less time if you only do it half full. the flavour of the coffee really gets through and it is delicious. Infact the temptation of the coffee just writing about it has sent me off to brew a fresh one right now. It is very easy to use and jug the number of spoons of ground coffee to match the strength that you want. We even set the timer to brew our coffee for morning so that when we arrive at work the scent of the delicious coffee wafts around the office and welcomes everyone to sanity ;-) All together I find the machine easy to run, easy to clean and easy to set up. It has none of the major washing up involved in the expresso machines and all you need are the filter bags of which 5 are provided included in the delivery package. The machine is supplied by costco so that tells you that it is almost certainly the best of the pack as Costco generally choose the best of everything to sell at sensible prices. Its too soon to say how long this will stand up to use but we brew up about twice a day so realistically it should give us quite few years of service before it packs up. The space footprint is very sensible and perfect for a small kitchen or office kitchenette like ours and the added bonus is we offer clients a fab cup of best brew. Cost wise it is also a massive saving where a bag of Starbucks ground coffee comes to around £4.50 and that will easily serve up 40 cups of coffee, whereas buying it from the store would costs multiple that amount of money even taking into account eletricity and the filter bags that you will need. TEMPERATURE: Now I am adding this as a special feature of my review because it is one of the most important factors for me in a cup of coffee and nobody else mentions it. This machine serves up proper HOT coffee, not that luke warm sludge that most espresso machines dish out. Add to that the flask that the coffee percolates into and you save on running electricity all day to keep your coffee hot - instead the flask keeps the temperatures at very drinkable levels for about 2 hours on a full jug (although the brochure claims it is 90 mins). There is no milk frother but we dont take our coffees with milk anyway - cream being the preferred accompaniment if anything at all. Ideally though black coffee is tastiest update June 2020 - now I have had this since Jan and it is used daily. I have become more and more impressed with the machine having relied on it heavily during the recent lockdown because I was not getting any coffee from shops. basically - long story short - if you want an excellent cup of fresh black coffee, you want it hot and you do not want to be messing around having to clean your machine every time you use it - this is the machine for you - it's so good that I am buying another one for home use too

A brilliant coffee machine, just please read the instructions!
I read the reviews, good and bad before I chose this machine. I'm glad I largely ignored the bad reviews! Melitta has been making coffee machines for as long as I can remember. The green and red coffee filter boxes are ingrained in my memory ever since I was knee-high. So choosing a Melitta filter coffee maker was easy once we finally finished off our Delonghi bean to cup machine that we were really never fully satisfied with. Yes it made a great cappuccino, but an ordinary coffee was so difficult for it to get right. I chose this particular machine (the Therm-Deluxe model) due to new laws meaning the machines with hotplates have to turn off after 30 minutes or thereabouts. Whereas the Thermal Jug in this machine doesn't need a hotplate at all, so in use, it would sensibly save money long-term. However, I read so many people saying the coffee was weak. So I was ready to send it back if this was the case. But I followed the instructions (yes, they are supplied, yes they are worth reading) as Melitta make it clear there is a different (but still easy) process when brewing 4 cups or less and it makes a huge difference as it slows the drip through the reduced amount of coffee grounds in the filter. Plus I must admit to wondering how many people are not using the paper filters, I wouldn't be surprised! The machine has a timer built-in, but to be honest, I have so many things to do in the morning that using it is not that necessary, but it does work, so if you want a big pot of perfect coffee waiting for you in the morning, its so easy to do. It also remembers the time you set it to brew so you don't have to reset it unless you want to change the time it brews. There's also a decalcification program which uses Citric Acid, easy to get compared to the Lactic Acid the Delonghi needed (I'm sure done to ensure you buy the more expensive Delonghi product!). I can get a kilo of Citric Acid from the health store in my local town for €10, so it makes the whole thing a lot cheaper to run. In use, it takes maybe 4 minutes to brew 2 mugs of black coffee start to finish. The water hopper comes off so you can take the hopper to the tap instead of a jug of water to the hopper. The filter part removes for cleaning and the jug just rinses out. Thankfully the good reviews (presumably by those who read the instructions) outweigh the bad reviews (or those that didn't read the instructions) for a reason, its a great machine, and I am very happy I opted for this one over a cheap alternative. Oh, and it comes with a 5 year warranty too. I can't recommend enough.

Great tasting coffee - but the jug cracked in 2 months!
11 Jan 2020 Sadly had to revise this review - less than 2 months in and the jug has developed a crack. I did read a handful of comments on other Melita machines about jugs being flimsy but figured it was bad luck or being clumsy. This one has been treated wth the utmost care, and also cracked having received no knocks or bumps. Very disappointed - hopefully customer support will resolve. I'm going lead with the most important factor - this machine makes the best filter coffee I have ever tasted (caveat - assuming correct use & ratio of coffee to water!) It's also stylish and looks great in the kitchen, and the coffee jug does not drip on the counter when you pour (another pet hate). In use, the machine is a bit of a faff, compared to my 2 previous Bosch ComfortLine machines which were well thought out operationally. This machine, the water reservoir does not detach so you must measure the water in the jug then transfer it. The jug has a scale, but it is tiny and hard to see. You also have to remove the filter holder, and it's lid to both empty and reload - which also involves a trigger switch to unlock it. None of this is hard, but it's not seamless either and is about 3 more steps than you really need every morning. But - as noted at the top - I'll plod through all of those for a cup which tastes this good. Shame Melitta didn't think more about the ergonomics though. Note - review is for the "Melitta Aroma Signature Deluxe" model.

A damn fine cup of coffee!
When deciding on a drip coffee machine I did a lot of reading of reviews, by professionals and customers. It had to be approved by the European Coffee Brewing Centre; coffee machines are expensive and I wasn't prepared to shell out money for a machine that had a lot of mixed reviews on a gamble that I might have one of the better experiences, so this really narrowed down my options. The Technivorm Moccamaster would have been my ideal choice but I couldn't bring myself to pay approx. £160 - £200 for a machine that makes coffee, no matter how good that coffee may be. When it comes to coffee machines Melitta has been in the business for sometime so I felt like they were a safe bet. So here's my experience with the Aroma Signature Deluxe model. Appearance: It looks amazing. Ok, so the important thing is whether or not it makes good coffee, considering this is something that's going to be out on display all that time, we want it to look good too. Build quality: The machine is made from a combination of brushed stainless steel and black plastic, with a clear plastic water compartment. The machine feels solid and even the plastic components feel sturdy and capable of withstanding a lot of use. At the time of purchasing I was new to the world of coffee machines so when I first felt how light the glass carafe was it took me a while to feel confident that it wasn't going to shatter each time I put it down. However, this is how most glass carafes feel and after a couple of months I was used to it. The brew: The most important part. What can I say, it's a dream. As expected, it makes consistently beautiful coffee. Be sure to go by the golden rule for the ratio of coffee to water. In the case of this machine it equates to 3 tablespoons for half a pot or 6 tablespoons for a full pot. I usually only make half a pot seeing as it's just for myself, and don't forget to press the aroma switch. Now on the subject of this aroma switch let me explain what I understand. On a Technivorm Moccamaster there is (or at least was, last time I checked) a physical switch on the brew basket that you click to halfway position that physically altered the size of the hole through which the coffee dripped out. This meant that the water stayed in the brew basket for a bit longer and gave the resulting brew a richer flavor, and is often used when brewing small quantities. I have never used one myself, but this is what I have read. Melitta's answer to this is the aroma switch. Now the aroma switch doesn't physically change the size of the aperture on the brew basket so I was intrigued by how it purports to achieve the same intended effect. Melitta, when I contacted them, were unable to explain the precise step-by-step cause and effect science of it, but here is what I am led to understand: Activating the aroma switch slows down the speed at which the machine adds the water to the brew basket and the less water that's in there means the slower it filters through. If there was a larger volume of water in the brew basket then it would create a greater force and it would filter through faster. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, please feel free to offer your own thoughts. Anyway, perhaps I've digressed here, the outcome is simply that it appears to do what it's supposed to and the coffee tastes great. It doesn't take long for the coffee to brew and the aroma is delightful. Looking into the brew basket afterwards reveals a good saturation of the coffee grounds, which is achieved by the shower head design of the. Once it's finished brewing and is ready to pour the temperature of the coffee is nice and hot. This is a common cause for concern when people purchase coffee machines. I've ready many a review of other machines where the temperature just hasn't been sufficient to provide an enjoyable brew. Rest assured, this machine won't fail you on that. Even if you don't end up buying this model it's worth getting one that has ECBC approval. You can program when you want it to alert you to the need to descale it. I use mine every weekend and sometimes during the week and I'm yet to descale it. The coffee tastes as good now as it did when I first bought it. Now, onto minor criticisms, and these really are minor. The hotplate can be programmed to stay on for 30, 60 or 90* minutes. It's nice to have this option available and I usually have it set to 90 minutes, but I do usually drink the second mug not long after I've finished the first and I suspect that if you're serving a few people and you're all drinking from mugs the whole pot isn't going to sit on there for that long anyway. If you're serving in cups then maybe so. As noted in reviews of other coffee machines and in the forums of coffee enthusiasts from across the world, if you leave a pot of coffee on a hot plate, or if you leave a percolator switched on to keep coffee hot, it will eventually cause the coffee to taste bitter. And that happens even with this machine. Which is why more and more models are now available with a thermos, rather than a glass carafe and hot plate. According to many enthusiasts these really are the way to go, but I'm a sucker for things that look classy, and it's got to be said that old transparent glass carafe looks more attractive, plus you can see how much is left. I drink my coffee black, but what I do with my second mug in order to neutralise that bitterness is to add just a small drop of milk. I add so little that wouldn't know the coffee had milk in it but it just takes that bitterness away and it's no trouble at all. But what Technivorm did to address this issue is they developed the hot plate to pulse on and off to retain the desired temperature without tainting the coffee. Apparently this really works well so it's unfortunate that Melitta didn't follow suit. The machine has a nice drip control system to so that when you remove the glass carafe from the stand the hole at the bottom of the brew basket closes and doesn't continue to drip onto the hotplate. Essentially this works just as intended. However a small quantity of condensation can form on the bass of the brew basket owing to the small hole on the lid of the carafe (a necessary requirement for the functioning of the coffee machine, and most other drip coffee machines), so don't be surprised if you hear the odd drip onto the hotplate whilst you're pouring your coffee, but this is forgivable. The more annoying issue is this: the carafe enables the coffee to be poured most gracefully into the desired cup/mug/vase and it manages to do it without causing a flood, but as you return the carafe to it's upright position a small drip of coffee does run down the side to the base. It's not a deal breaker but just be aware to give a small wipe before placing it back on the hot plate. If I could give the product 4 and a half stars then I probably would, purely for the control over the hotplate. It would have been nice to have the pulsing effect of the Moccamaster. And also it would have been nice to have a separate switch for the hotplate; a few times I've switched the machine off at the mains or using the side switch as soon as it's finished brewing, thus resetting the hot plate so it will only activate again after another brew. Last but not least, the filters for this machine work out quite cheap. And be sure to get some good coffee of a roast and blend that you know you like, and keep it fresh. Don't blame the machine for weak coffee if you've been using the same bag for 6 months. So there you have it. My experience with this machine has been excellent and if it should ever break I wouldn't hesitate to buy the same one again. NB. This review is for the AROMA SIGNATURE DELUXE model. I emphasise this because I have come across a page on Amazon purporting to be for this model, showing a picture of this model, but then only providing a purchase selection for Aroma Elegance model (which is likely to be equally fantastic but I wouldn't want to be misleading people). * If you live in the EU you might find it difficult to seek out another machine with a 'keep warm' function that will stay on for this long. From the articles I've read most machines by EU law have been limited to 40 minutes for purposes of safety, the same applies to electric percolators. It was about a year ago that I read this and I can't remember exactly where so if you have proof to the contrary then by all means correct me.

Good coffee but the calc function is beyond all understanding - this is the Aroma Elegance
When I bought the Aroma Elegance, I was really pleased - it makes a very good tasting cup of coffee. There were one or two minor quibbles - the cone carrier doesn't quite fit snugly back under the liquid dropper if you have a paper cone in it - it isn't quite tall enough, so you have to wrestle with slightly each and every time you push it back - but it does click neatly back and the vital bits there seem to work smoothly. The water tank is quite nice, it is easy to pour into and the measure is clear. When I first bought it, I tried to understand the manual about setting the Calc function so that it tells you when to decalc. Unfortunately, the manual is very difficult to follow on this point and I probably got the wrong setting, but it's hard to tell as the setting function itself is unclear. Now I've had it for a couple of months it has slipped into a permanent Calc red warning light mode and no longer makes coffee. I've tried closely following all the decalc instructions TWICE but it is still obstinately stuck in a non-functioning Calc warning mode. It's also probably nonsense anyway as the coffee still tasted fine and the water was cycling through it properly. Basically avoid this product as it malfunctions and can't be properly set, but a shame as I was enjoying it right up until it stopped working!

Exzellenter Kaffee, super Aroma, heiß serviert in sechs Minuten!
