what size belt is this for?

The clip on the back would best fit a belt 1 and 3/4 inches wide, average thickness. Thanks for asking. Excellent question. Hope this help you.

I notice that it swivels, but if you want it to stay out (at 90 degrees) with nothing on it, will it stay?

I’ve used these hooks for over twenty years as a commercial and private framer, with Dewalt drivers with no problem with them not holding at 90 degrees. I did have one separate at the swivel after years of abuse, the will catch on equipment if there is nothing in them so don’t forget to swivel them out of the way!

Wonder if it would hold a small D-handled shovel for metal detecting?

Is the yellow plastic piece attached to the same black piece that the belt clip is on, supposed to be a button that allow s the hook to swivel? If so my button doesn't work
