How many blokes at Haynes does it take to change a light bulb? None. The girls have beaten them to it. They've also fixed the leaky tap, put up the shelves, tiled the kitchen, insulated the loft and changed the oil in the car - all without damaging their nails. Presented in a contemporary, fashionable style (not too much pink, but certainly a bit) and written in a chatty, approachable way , the Women's DIY Manual will give all the girls the information they need for general household DIY. In true Haynes style, there is clear step-by-step photography and easy-to-follow instructions, with difficulty ratings for each project. Review: Great book, ideal moving in gift - Got this for my sister after she bought her first house. Aside from the fact there's a woman on the cover (and in all the diagrams), I can't see what exactly differentiates this book from any other non gender specific DIY guide, and I've come to the conclusion that the branding is essentially just a harmless gimmick. However, since all the information inside is all illustrative and useful, and it's packed full of helpful advice, I'm not going to mark it down for that reason. Besides, the woman's DIY book is quite a fun idea, and if it makes DIY accessible to women who might not be interested, all the better. Anyway, surely DIY for men and women is more or less the same, right? And I also assume that as the book has been written by a woman, she's been able to carry out all the work herself, therefore other women should be able to as well. Review: Great book for the basics - Great stuff - bought for young friend who has bought herself a flat - she's not particularly handy so I thought this would be a useful (basic DIY) book, rather than a hearty plumbing electrical all inclusive for a seasoned homeowner - it covers basics in a Haynes straightforward way and she loves it

Great book for the basics
Great stuff - bought for young friend who has bought herself a flat - she's not particularly handy so I thought this would be a useful (basic DIY) book, rather than a hearty plumbing electrical all inclusive for a seasoned homeowner - it covers basics in a Haynes straightforward way and she loves it

Pretty good but....
As in information guide, this book is pretty useful at covering the basics. Just disappointing that a few pages in, it states that DIY isn't just for men.....then informs the intended female audience that we can maybe buy what we need in our favourite colours! On the same page! Made me laugh more than offended but still....

Really clear and useful home DIY book
This would make a really good gift for a first time home owner. The information is clearly presented with photos and great instructions. I was impressed with the good reviews but I would definitely recommend this book.

Excellent
Excellent book for someone like me who has no more idea how a house works, than my husband knows how to sew. It covers all the basics and although I won’t be ‘doing it myself’ at least I’ll now know what others are talking about! Just what I needed.

DiY book
Really helpful booking 'how to' carry out various jobs around the house. Ideal for my sons too who are just starting out in their own homes.

Who needs a man !
This is a great book, it was bought a a semi joke present for my sister who has found herself needing to do her own repairs in the house now. Although the joke was on me as she tells me it's a very useful book with lots of tip and detailed instructions.

Yes we can do it! Sort of....
Ok, I would give this 3 ½ stars of I was allowed to. I'm not sure how I feel about this book, I felt it was almost "dumbed" down for us ladies, and duh?! We rock! I am sure this is aimed at a slightly different audience than me. I know some things about repairs but I was hoping it would get down to the nitty gritty. The pictures are nice, I haven't read it cover to cover yet. I think if you're a gal like me who needs some pointers on things that may be a little harder than learning how paint walls and radiators. My suggestion - grab the big orange home depot book, FULL of great instructions, try YouTube and see if there are any classes for basic plumbing and electrical some are also geared towards women. That's my 2 cents. It's not a bad book, but I need more than what it has to offer.

Good for most jobs, not all.
Good, well packed book full of useful tips, but does not cover everything. I had hoped to have seen something on different kinds of walls when drilling through them. I live in a property that has very soft walls where you have to drill lightly in order to hang up anything. Also, there was little on what I needed on plumbing - I have a sink in the bathroom that is leaking but cannot understand from where and the book fails on this aspect, too. In summary, it's still a useful book and written in a chatty style that will appeal to most women, and possibly men, too. Would recommend buying.
