However I was so impressed by the quality of these lights that I immediately ordered a replacement set. On arrival both worked out of box, and leaving them out during the day, both were happily glowing that same night. Originally purchased to sit each side outside our Caravan door whilst on holiday, and they both worked perfectly. Since then they have taken residence in our garden and both have worked without any problems. They do come with a 2 year guarantee, but I cannot confirm their potential for 8 hours working as they have recently seen lots of sunshine during the day, but I have long since gone to bed before the 8 hours is up, but they have the potential. Yes they are waterproof, and very heavy rain in North Norfolk confirms that and they come with spikes to push into soft ground. Also a really decent light level, but not sure on the ability of the plastic tops and electrics to withstand freezing temps, so for safety will bring them in for the winter .
