Precision Meets Power – Sharp Enough for a Surgeon, Tough Enough for a Lumberjack!
As someone who spends half my life splitting logs and the other half splitting stitches, I demand precision in all my tools. The Fiskars XSharp Axe and Knife Sharpener? It’s a game changer. This little beauty brings surgical sharpness to my blades while standing up to the rugged demands of the forest. The ceramic sharpening stone is chef’s axe level perfection. It hones edges with the kind of care and accuracy I’d expect from an OR scalpel. Whether it’s my trusty axe for felling trees or my utility knife for finer cuts, this sharpener delivers an edge so clean you could shave with it (not that I recommend it—been there, done that). The design is as intuitive as stitching up a laceration after years of practice. Slide the blade through a few times, and you’re back in business. It’s lightweight, compact, and doesn’t feel out of place whether it’s in my workshop or my field bag. Durability? Absolutely. It’s held up through endless sharpenings without so much as a chip or scratch on the stone. Plus, the ergonomic design makes it easy to handle, even after hours of heavy work. If you value sharpness, durability, and reliability—whether you're cutting down trees or carving dinner—this is the sharpener for you. A surgeon couldn’t ask for more precision, and a lumberjack couldn’t ask for more power. Dr. Jack “Lumber Scalpel” Woods

The best and made in Finland 🇫🇮
WOW!!! This is just what’s needed when you’re splitting wood for the log burner. Made short work of some oak and ash and easily cut some larger pieces into kindling sticks. Who knew there was a difference between a splitting axe and a cutting axe? The difference between this and a cheaper alternative is staggering, it’s well made, well balanced, and definitely well worth the money. Registered for the 25 year warranty and would totally recommend this axe for splitting your logs.

Build quality, price.
Is this normal, see the picture, i missed a log couple of time so hit it past the point of blade and hit the handle next to the actual axe, didn't break as expected as I used to own older model which has never been sharpened in 15 years and still is in use by parents.. This is good price and good quality. Handle is not better than old one, probs the same I would say, older one was grippier

Not bad. But could be stronger.
Seems to add a decent edge to my Fiskars X7 axe, and as a bonus I wasn't expecting has a setting for knives. While it won't sharpen a fully blunted edge it'll put a sharp edge on most things. Possibly a little light weight and won't resist rough handeling, maybe a little expensive for what it is, but does the job.

Fantastic axe, made light work of 1.5T of wet hardwood
I recently found myself in need of a full-sized axe to split some rounds for firewood. The sizes ranged from 1-2' in diameter, and 10-18" in height. I did a few days of research and agonised over whether a cheap maul would do the job, or if I should buy a "heritage" tool as I'm sure I'll be splitting wood for as long as I am able. In the end, and after reading many reviews, I decided to go for the middle ground (price-wise) and get this axe. I have used it for a few hours now and have enjoyed every minute. While I prefer the romance of a nice wooden handle and old English, hand-forged axe head I couldn't justify the additional cost for my current needs; that being a couple of tonnes of splitting once a year. The axe arrived sharp and I put it to work without any prep of the bit. My first log split in 4 (medium effort) swings (see images). I was later impressed that another large(ish) round was split in a single blow and that it even managed some knotty stuff - although this was harder work, and probably not wise in any case. I tried some really twisted stuff, but left this in the end. While I've used a hatchet for a few years, and full-sized axes a few times in my life, this is the first full-sized axe I've purchased and at 35 years old, 5'7, 12st7lb I found it easy to swing and was able to accurately hit my mark (see image where I tried to hit close to a ridge). Note: Fiskars/ general advice would recommend a slightly smaller axe for my height and strength. I like the feel of wood in the hand, and thought the fibreglass handle on the axe would be a bit of a compromise but it feels nice in the hand, and given the cold weather I've been using it with gloves; this works fine too. I couldn't find any photos online of the profile of the head so have included this. Suffice to say the axe behaves as I understand a maul would, with a shallow angle to the blade; I didn't get the blade stuck in any wood, nor did I need to use wedges to split any of the logs. I bought this axe with my own money for just under £70 and given the 25-year warranty I think it's a great tool that will serve me well for years to come.

Excellent splitting axe
Excellent for quickly splitting both dry and fresh logs though if it’s a particularly knotty piece I’d tend to use a hydraulic splitter or chainsaw. Most of the logs I split are 6 - 12”diameter and up to 15” length. They’ll usually split with a single blow though it does depend on wood type. It’s mostly beech, ash, sycamore pine and larch I split. Light weight and easy to use but potentially dangerous if used incorrectly. Safety boots, glasses and hard hat recommended as a minimum as pieces of wood can fly off in unexpected directions and it’s a good idea to have the log for splitting on a platform rather than the ground. Looks well made and expect to get many years of use from it.

To light
My bad tbh. Nice axe for light wood chopping but useless for heavier hardwood logs. To lightweight

It's a bit of a beast, but it's accurate
I'm 5'8" tall and I chose this 36" X27 splitting axe over the 28" X25, the reason being safety. If for some reason this axe deflects or I miss, it'll hit the ground before it'll hit me. I've been using the 17" A11 up until now to split dried firewood typically about 8" in diameter or less. It multiplies power but the limits of it in my hands have been revealed thanks to a recent windfall of much larger logs. Like the little axe that could, this X27 is well constructed and nicely balanced. The handle is very comfortable. This longer and heavier axe requires a different technique when swinging, where instead of holding it like a baseball bat with my hands together I choke it halfway with my dominant hand when raising it, and slide that hand towards the handle end on the downswing. On the first few test strikes I held it back a bit, and it still split approx. 10" diameter rounds first time. Next I let the weight of the axe do the work on it's own and it split a gnarly and knotty 10" piece that has been stubbornly sitting around for a while on the second strike. Having calibrated my eye and body position to this behemoth of an axe, on the next swing I gave it some extra momemtum and power. It went straight through a round that was 12" across and 8" deep like it wasn't there, then continued into my 2' wide knee high chopping block, cleaving it in twain. My jaw dropped just as quickly. I've learned my lesson for today. I'm off to find a ratchet strap, and a then a new chopping block. Elm might stand up to it, at least for a little while, if I can get my hands on it.

Solid splitting axe for home use
✔️ Pros: • Very solid build quality • Splits wood efficiently • Comfortable length and weight balance • Durable materials (steel + fiberglass handle) • Comes with a protective cover ❌ Cons: • None so far for home use Review: A very solid and reliable splitting axe. I’ve been using it for typical home tasks, and it performs exactly as expected. It handles wood splitting efficiently and feels well-balanced in hand. The build quality is excellent, and the materials feel durable. For non-professional, everyday use around the house, it’s more than sufficient. So far, I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

great build quality, questionable grinding angle
Build quality is solid, five stars, as expected from Fiskars. I have concerns about the sharpening angle, for my knives and machete. And my axe doesn't fit inside the notch, so no axe sharpening for me.
