great phone for the every day user. great features for the price and no complaints.
Pro points: Expandable memory starting at 8gb Nice size 4.5 inch screen Good screen resolution for sharp, clear images Reasonably good 5mp camera Windows operating system (more on this below) Nice smooth, lightweight design Bad points: No front camera Windows store contains much fewer apps than android or iphone For people who don't know, the windows phone style is a front page of tiles and a list style menu including all apps. The phone comes with many apps preinstalled but they will need updating straight away. The app store has all the major apps but far fewer apps in general and many apps that you hear about on tv etc are not available for windows. For me the most notable app is amazon music, which is not for windows phone. Kindle is though, as are all the social media apps. You also get a basic version of office which is virtually useless, but crucially if you have a windows pc or tablet you can sync the phone with it, so you can create files on a full version of office and then make simple edits on the phone version. Apart from these things a windows phone means a windows pc style system, whereby it is just easier to use if you are used to using a windows pc or laptop. As a long time windows fan it is perfect for me as I find the android and iphone system more complicated. Overall, the battery life is also good, and you can use any uk sim, so for the price I think this phone is unbeatable, except if you want to use a 4g enabled sim, in which case you must get the Lumia 635. I would recommend this phone to any everyday user on a budget who just wants a phone that does what phones should do with a few perks, and not a phone that doubles as an interdimensional space craft or whatever iPhones are supposed to be able to do these days that warrants the five hundred pound price tag. NOTE: Microsoft has recently taken over Nokia and therefore all Nokia phones are now actually Microsoft, so you will see some versions of this phone with Microsoft written on them instead of Nokia. The phone is the same but in effect the ones with Nokia are now in effect outdated, which I believe is part of the reason why this phone is available so cheaply here.

Good but not excellent.
Having just broke my previous phone, a Moto G 1st gen Sim free smartphone I needed a quick and cheap replacement. Having read numerous reviews about windows phones, I decided to go for this one at a relatively cheap price. First of all the speed of this phone is unreal for the price. My previous phone was quite slow sometimes, often lagging or freezing as i interchanged between each app. This phone performs expertly when changing between each app. The experience is very smooth. Another great feature of this phone is cortana and the voice recognition on this is different class. I am from the Isle of Lewis, I have a very strong scottish accent which means a lot of people not from where I live, do not understand me. However cortana seems to understand every word I speak to her. This function was brilliant, as in my previous phone certain words I say were pronounced differently. Mix radio is also brilliant. The amount of songs and different mixes you can listen to is excellent. Whether you boogie to some 80s classics, or lose your nut to some dance floorfillers, it's great. Now you're probably wondering why I speak so excellently about this phone but yet I have only given it 4 stars. Well here I am about to explain. First of all the sound is not the greatest, although I wasn't expecting much, there seemed to be an absence of bass when listening to music. Who knows? Maybe I have messed around with the controls. I'm not sure how to change it back. And that brings me onto my next point, learning the functions of this phone is a lot more complicated, especially if you are a newcomer to windows phone. In the box there was some start up instructions but nothing actually about the functions of the phone. Hey I could just look it up online. But I'm one of those stubborn men who like a set of instructions in front of me to read. Next of all there's no front facing camera. This would be a bit disappointing if I wasn't a real man, but real men don't take selfies, so alas this does not bother me so much. It is worth a mention though, as other users may want a front facing camera. Last but not least, apps. The apps you get on this phone are somewhat limited, but not as bad as people say it is. One thing I was disappointed about was the absence of snapchat. For many people including myself, snapchat is a major tool these days for keeping in touch with people. Hey you could use what's app or facebook or many other tools. But I personally liked snapchat the most. I think 4 stars out of 5 is well justified for this phone.

Top smartphone budget phone out their..
Purchased this phone as a backup to my existing Lumia 925, have been using it over 2 weeks and all I can say is what a brilliant device it is for the money. Firstly the whole Microsoft account eco-system is absolutely brilliant, when transferring from one windows device to another sign in with the starting wizard and all contacts settings and backups are pulled down onto the device that you need. Provided it’s enabled all the photos are backed up to OneDrive (accessible easily on any browser on any device unlike iCloud, take note Apple). You can pick a backup to restore and what apps to reinstall and that’s about it. In the box you get a charger and the phone and that is it. On to the phone; its light but well built, has excellent call quality, internet browsing, a fantastic screen, all the main apps you need and a battery life that is better than the Lumia 925. The Here maps sat navigation works perfectly, plus the offline maps can be downloaded to the expandable SD card I put an extra 8GB in mine. I have tested the internet sharing which works perfectly. The phone is really FAST. I have used so many cheap horrible Android devices (Samsung Ace) and they go so SLOWWWW after usage this does not, in fact windows is the snappiest mobile OS out there in my opinion. Only downside is no front facing camera and no flash so the picture quality is not the same as the high end phones. However it’s as good as the competition around it. Overall for the price this is an absolutely brilliant phone, and if you lose it or is stolen it won't break the bank to replace it, nothing worse than out on the town and afraid of your expensive smartphone not making it home, with this you have no worries. Take the plunge and invest I say.

Unfortunately, very disappointed.
Liked the phone, but after 2 hrs use the WiFi 'locked out' with permanent 'DNS server' error. It had worked, so my initial set-up must have been OK. While I'm not an expert, I do build my own PCs, load and configure all software from the OS upwards and have set up a successful home network with NSA, so I like to think I'm equal to any 'average user'. Try as I might, I couldn't get this to work again. I spent about 10 hrs resetting connections/passwords/modem router/hard reset of phone etc. in just about every configuration/sequence imaginable. Couldn't get it to work. The obvious option on my other devices would be to manually enter network config.....but, inexplicably, W8 doesn't seem to let me do that (not that I could find). Microsoft don't seem to understand this is the consumer electronics market where we are used to pulling our new TV (or whatever) out of the box and with minimum set-up, expect it to work - and keep working. While I understand this is a 'budget' phone, it still has to do a basic job reliably. I am exceptionally disappointed because I have used Nokia phones for over 25 years (from the 5110!) and in my opinion, I see a well built, stylish Nokia phone seriously let down by under-developed, under-functioned and unreliable software. (Apologies if that upsets any W8 fans, but we are all entitled to an opinion). WP is thus now discounted as an option. I have requested a returns form for this phone and i will now start again, evaluating Android phones.

Great value for money and connectivity
Have only just started using this phone and wouldn't normally review after such a short period but am so impressed with its connectivity and ease of use with my existing Microsoft system that I am going to do so. I am not really a "phonie" preferring to use dedicated equipment rather than all in one devices. I use a phone for communication, cameras for taking pictures, Video camera for filming and PC's, laptop, and notebook for everything else but I have been impressed with what the current generation of smartphones can do with something that fits in your pocket and you have with you all the time. I was not however prepared to pay £1for years 00's or enter into costly monthly contracts to get more advanced features. I was also apprehensive about going from Samsung to Nokia following a number of years of the brands reputational demise despite using their phones for years in times gone by. When my Samsung finally gave up the ghost I was looking for a budget replacement and an acquaintance who is an expert IT professional well in to phones mentioned this Nokia as well worth consideration at around £65 available on Amazon I decided to take a look and I'm glad I did, I bought one and the only "glitch" was that it required a micro sim card and mine was an old standard size but this wasn't indicated on the published specification, this resulted in a delay in me using the phone. This was easily solved though because a local mobile shop was able to trim my existing sim so that it fitted in a few minutes at a cost of less than £3. Well talk about transformation, I was able to upload all my contacts from the sim and from my Microsoft Outlook to the phone in seconds, access my emails without doing anything, acess my Microsoft Onedrive, connect to my Facebook (very recent thing for me), get weather local to my location and get "gmaps" wherever I am at no cost and have availability of a plethora of apps that I may never want for free. A real advancement. I obviously cannot comment on longevity or reliability of the phone yet but it's such good value for money that I have given it 5 stars, I have lots of friends who have gone to iPhones and have then had to buy Apple PC's and iPads so that everything connected seamlessly, well everything I have is Windows based and I now feel that I am achieving the same result at a fraction of the cost without buying anything else new and so recommend it without reservation. I would also add that I drive a VW Golf GT and a Toyota Landcruiser not a Porche and a Range Rover, I am also an avid DIY'er and cook and this phone adds to me being able to have a lifestyle and quality that exceeds my limited OAP status.

my first smart phone
Great phone. This is my first touch screen/wifi phone. Never wanted one as I have no tolerance for short battery life and fiddly screens but after doing A LOT of research into tech side of phone, this one seemed good for price/content/battery. I am not one of those people who is on their phone 12hours a day, but I frequently check emails, fb, etc. I only need to charge battery every three or more days (unless I've gone crazy on angry birds during a break at work) And have found the internet to be speedy. The apps are restricted due to being windows own store, a lot of apps from google play are not available. The only problems I've had are to do with glitchy apps, but that isn't the phone. I love using this phone. Great screen, clear, responsive touch and good size keyboard for typing. I refuse to get windows 8 on my computer as it's faffy but live tile system works great on small touchscreen. Had this phone for 4 months and still love it and enjoy using it!

Good solid windows phone
Good solid windows phone. Brought for my wife (I already have a work one) to replace an aging android phone. Uses the Microsoft windows operating system which is intuitive and in my opinion much underrated. I wont describe what it can and can't do as that is dealt with by the product info and in my opinion it does not make any false claims. The windows app store is tiny in comparison to Google's and Apple's and this is the only real drawback with windows phones in general. App wise it has all the basic offerings but if there is a specific app that you cannot live without (do you really really need it ?!!) and it (or a comparable app) is not available on windows then this or any other windows phone may not be the one for you. Its a relatively low cost phone and as such will not set the world alight but it does the basics well plus more All in all a good buy

The phone itself isn't bad given the price
The phone itself isn't bad given the price, however as with all things you "get what you pay for" and Nokia phones aren't good in comparison to Samsung and Apple phones at the higher end of the market. With that in mind the phone is great for the price if you cannot afford more, however if you could I would certainly suggest a higher model. The windows app store itself is again, okay. Due to a lack of support there aren't many apps; quite a few games (xbox) and the main social media apps but after that there isn't much and there tends to be a lot of naf, dodgey apps that I would just plain avoid. The software is good, app choice limited, so is fine if you aren't fussy about that kind of thing. The construction is probably the worse bit, feels flimsy and is. Being made of plastic is doesn't give much protection from accidental drops and I have had to already replace the screen, however with that in mind it can be cheap to replace parts so upkeep is again easy. All in all, the phone is good, but given the choice and enough money I wouldn't choose it again.
