The 250g tin is a handy size and knowing it’s made from 100 percent Arabica beans and a medium roast gave me hope for something decent. The first few brews hit nicely smooth rounded flavour with hints of caramel and a clean finish that left nothing bitter in the cup. The taste profile includes caramel, chocolate and toasted bread with a sweet aftertaste and on my espresso machine that came through quite well. What I particularly liked is that it gave me something closer to proper coffee even though it’s decaf. It held up well as a plain espresso and felt just right when I had it with a splash of milk. On the other hand it’s not completely flawless. If you compare it side by side with a freshly roasted caffeinated specialty bean you will notice it lacks a little of the brightness or depth you sometimes get with premium roasts. Also because it comes pre ground, it doesn’t give you the same freshness you’d get by grinding beans yourself.
