How To Draw Modern Florals: an Introduction to the Art of Flowers, Cacti, and More

This is superb. Easy and relaxing to follow. I'm throwing out drawings that are ten times better than before I had this book.

I am a big fan of Alli Koch's work and have watched several of her tutorials on you tube and follow her on Instagram. I am new to the pen drawings and decided this book would be a good addition to my learning materials and I was not wrong. The diagrams are simple with informative descriptions of what's happening and where to go next. There is a lot of flowers to try in there and practicing them is going to keep me busy for some time. Once I have done that I will be buying her second book. Overall this is a lovely book to own, look at and learn from and I would definitely recommend it for someone who is interested in learning to draw flowers.

I am really enjoying learning how to draw flowers using this book! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I felt that between (for example) step 3 and 4 in a tutorial, there were often too many big changes in the example pictures, that I had to try to figure out. The book is printed with so much empty white paper, I really would have preferred to have more detailed instructions.

For such a large book, there's a lot of empty space; which does help with the diagrams which do do as described and do help guide you through making the drawings However, this means are only just over twenty three or so floral designs to work through (there are also very brief, and usefully clear, sections on tools, floral anatomy and some basic principles of drawing florals). Almost a quarter of the book is blank pages for practise, one blank page after each exercise, which is something I find mildy irritating, but might be useful for some others who don't have, uh, blank paper... Personally I worked through the book drawing an exercise once a day and greatly enjoyed it. I especially appreciated the gentle progression in difficulty from start to finish The reason I'm giving it five stars instead of four is because I've enjoyed the book and it's exercises enough that the niggles of a limited plant selection and those practise padding pages aren't dragging it down to four stars Overall, it's a nice introduction to drawing florals. It could be a bit better, but I can state clearly that I've enjoyed it greatly and gained several hours of pleasure from working through the exercises

What a seriously stonkin book.. I was always hopeless at art, I wasn't encouraged at school to pursue it (wonder why 🤔). Alli has created a super book and one that will help you draw flowers...easily. The Calla Lilly's (yes they're lillies, not golf clubs!) in my picture aren't included, but everything else is. Within the book is: Daisy, Tulip, Anemone, Sunflower, Peony, Sweet Pea, Marigold, Lilac, Dahlia, Carnation, Hydrangea, Protea, Magnolia, Poppy, Rose, Dogwood, Camelia, Gardenia, Ranuculus, Wildflowers, Cactus (3), Succulent (2).. she also covers flowers at an angle, leaves and arrangements. I'm so pleased I made the purchase, I have received a few compliments on my flowers, which I never in my wildest dreams thought would happen. Highly recommended x

100% even if you are a designer that designs floral, you must have this book. A LOT of experience is behind it , a lot of skill has been put in, this is the type of work that if you don't have it than it would be very wise to aquire, amazing work

Ich wollte unbedingt lernen wie man die Blumen wie Alli so schön detailliert zeichnet, und das beschreibt sie wunderbar in einer Schritt für Schritt Anleitung. die Gestaltung des Covers ist einfach fantastisch. Es werden verschiedene florale Themen behandelt und alles wird do erklärt das man es auch als Anfänger versteht. Absolute Kaufempfehlung für jeden der gerne modern Florals malt!

I was not good in drawing, and I wanted to learn drawing florals, so I gifted this book to my self on my birthday, see the photos I was able to draw in first few minutes and in few days, with the help of this book,thank you very much Alli koch, thank you Amazon.

I'm pretty picky about my "how-to" books. It's very difficult for me to find a book that doesn't overexplain and make me feel like I don't have any creative freedom, or underexplain and I don't have any idea how to get from step one to step two. That being said, this book does an excellent job of breaking florals (and more) into 4-8 very easy to follow, color coordinated steps. It is a very well put together, organized, and beautiful book (and that's before taking into account the illustrations!) When I started seeing modern florals pop up in tattoos, on wedding stationery, as prints, on mugs, etc., I looking at the drawings longingly and tried a few times (unsuccessfully) to create my own. I didn't think I'd ever be able to draw a flower that was recognizable for what it was. After reading and working through Alli's book (twice now 3 days), I'm blown away by the fact that I actually can draw florals—and it's all due to this book and Alli's almost magical way of breaking complex flowers into easy (if sometimes unusual!) shapes and lines. And on a more aesthetic note: as a wedding stationer and graphic designer by trade, I can assure you that this book is gorgeous from start to finish! The white space doesn't feel like a waste, it adds to the beauty of the book and ensures that you're not feeling overwhelmed while learning and practicing. And it's a practical book, too—having this copy in a wire bound hardcover style makes it so easy to practice anywhere. With all of my sketchbooks being wire bound, I can fit both the Intro book and a sketchbook next to each other in my lap, if need be. It's also a larger book than I was expecting, but not in a bad way at all—in fact, I'm very glad to have the extra room for sketching. Another point I'm extremely pleased about is the lack of blank pages. Rather than tons of extra blank pages for "practice" (because really, blank pages only add padding to most how-to books), there is one practice page for each subject. It's fantastic! I feel like Alli cares more about including usually subject matter than trying to create a thick how-to book, and that's the way it should be. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to expand their skill set, wants to discover a new hobby, already enjoys plants and flowers, or is in the wedding industry like me. It's a wonderful book from start to finish!
