Brilliant! - totally solved my fuzzy picture problem...
A brilliant little device, highly recommended. I'm using it to pipe our recorded freeview programs and DVDs from the family room to the adjoining kitchen/dining room. I bought this to replace an old VH89 "digital video sender" from Maplin that had been great for years but developed a "fuzzy picture" problem around the time the analog signal was switched off in our area earlier this year. When the scart only was connected, the output picture was clean. But when the freeview lead was also plugged in, the picture became very grainy. I'm not a techie but my guess is the freeview signal got boosted when the analog was switched off and the old modulator couldn't handle it. It wasn't a faulty device as I had two and they both did it. This new Mercury modulator shows a clean picture in all cases so I'm really pleased with it. This new modulator also has a very easy up/down button and LED display to choose the channel number, unlike the arcane dip switches on the other modulator. This new one also has a pass-thru scart output which might prove useful. All in all, very pleased with this and it certainly solved the problem I was having with a grainy picture in the kitchen.

It really works!!
Having recently switched from Sky HD to Virgin Media V+ I was frustrated to note that the new Samsung V+ V.M. box did not have the same RF out capability that the Sky HD box had, and as a result my home distribution network was out of action.. Crisis...No Tv upstairs!! After a little research, I found forum references to this little gem although with very mixed reviews. Some said it worked, others that it did not so taking a leap of faith I ordered one to give it a go and I can confirm to anyone in doubt; If you are installing this to take a scart feed from the Samsung V+ box and convert to an RF feed for a coax network, it not only works, but it works very well. The picture quality via my network is excellent, considering the signal is now being distributed via coax and not HDMI leads. There is no distortion or loss of signal (some of my tv's are a good distance from the distribution box). I think a reason that some have reported poor quality is that they have not set up their V+ box to output the right signal type through the scart. In the V+ box settings the output needs to be set to composite and not RGB. Some forums advise the use of an old VCR player which also works but who wants an old VCR stuffed down the back of the TV. This unit is only a little bigger than a pack of cards. Overall a top quality and cost effective solution to an annoying oversight on the part of Samsung in building the latest V+ box.

Good product, works well
Like a lot of people I bought this as I have gone from Sky to Virgin Media so needed a replacement magic eye type solution although in theory you should be able to use it for anything. I wasn't too impressed at first as the picture I was getting although watchable was quite fuzzy. I had always had a decent picture on the 2nd tv from the sky box RF out. Most reviewers on here have quoted very good picture quality It occurred to me I may have been using the wrong coax socket on the modulator. I was. I had my connection to the 2nd tv into the aerial socket rather than the tv/vcr one probably as I had removed the adapter plug off the end of the cable so had just put the cable into wherever it would fit. There's probably a valuable life lesson there. I now have a near perfect picture given the kitchen tv is a 10 year old budget lcd model. I think from memory the picture is better than I was getting from the sky RF out. It is easy to tune in even if you don't have it connected correctly. As the TV is pre digital it doesn't seem to matter what channel I have the modulator set to. It does get a bit warm so I switch it off when not in use. I have combined it with the Marmitek remote control pyramids as have many others. At times our magic eye sunning off the sky box would refuse to operate the remote. If I had been aware of these products I might have replaced that set up with these two products. All in all not a bad piece of kit, does what you want it to do,. which is all you can ask. Maybe not totally idiot proof but that's no fault of the equipment. If you aren't getting the desired results wade through the reviews on here and persevere with it

What a great gadget...!
So i'm thinking - how can I watch my new Sky Sports in my bedroom, when it's installed in my living room? As I was searching for Scart cables and contemplating drilling through walls (again) Amazon showed this related gadget in some search results - I wouldn't have known this was possible if Amazon hadn't shown me - so thumbs up for the Amazon shopping engine..! And not only can it pipe the signal from you scart source (STB, DVD Player etc...) , it can also carry the normal Antenna freewiew signal - so you don't have to switch from one source to another - it does everything. 1) plug in all the cables 2) make sure your sending a scart signal so the bedroom TV can latch on to it - i.e. play a film... 3) do an auto tune / factory reset of your bedroom TV 4) Bingo! your Scart signal will be available on an ANALOGUE channel (default is 36) - and you also have all the usual digital TV channels The whole thing takes 10 minutes (and that's mainly the tv autotune)- my LG tv is about 3 years old. Now I can get freeview and sky sports at the touch of a button. As for quality of signal - my eyes aren't 20/20 but I can't really tell the difference I've also ordered a remote control sender kit so I can change channels from Bedroom too... Well, well, well impressed - great piece of kit. Hope this helps Col

Great product, but doesn't work with all sources.
At first I was quite impressed with this modulator. I've had a similar unit from Maplin, but on that one you had to set the channel the device uses using a series of micro dip-switches, which is quite fiddly and you need to keep the instructions to look up which TV channel corresponds to which combination of dip-switch positions. However, this unit allows you to select the TV channel it uses by using simply up/down buttons on the top of the unit, and it displays the channel on a red LED readout. So, setup is just a case of plugging the device in to the power, video source, and TV aerial cable, select a channel, tune in your TV, and you're done. So in that respect it's great. The problem I had was that this device only worked with some of my video sources. I tried it with the following: * Security camera via Scart input (didn't work). * Different security camera via video phono input (didn't work). * Sky box via Scart input (worked). * DVD player via Scart input (worked). All of the above devices work absolutely fine when connected by the same cables directly to the Scart/Video input on a TV. But, when the two different security cameras were connected to the device (separately of course) the picture suffered from massive distortion. It reminded me of the old encryption analogue Sky TV used to use - the edges of the picture became extremely wobbly and the image was not legible at all. I tried various different combinations of leads, channels, TVs, and sources, but I could never get either of my security cameras to work with this device. It may be just coincidence, but the devices that worked both output RGB signals on the Scart lead. The devices that didn't work only output composite video. But, really, the device should work with both, or at the very least composite sources. I ended up buying a very similar device (although slightly more expensive) from Maplin, which while ever-so-slightly more difficult to set up, worked perfectly with both security cameras. As such, I'll give this device 3 stars, as it did work flawlessly with my DVD player and Sky box, and it's very easy to set up, however it did not work with either of the two security cameras I'd purchased it for. Praise is also due to Pertinax who sells the product through Amazon - their customer service was prompt and polite via email, and I got a very quick full refund on returning it.

Modulator worked perfectly
I wanted to connect my Humax Freesat box, using the "Scart to Coax Video Modulator", to a second TV that was situated in another room: I connected the Modulator, using Scart connections, to the Freesat box which, unlike my son's Sky box, did not have an RF coax-out socket. The Modulator was connected to the second TV using coax cable. Previously, the second TV had been set up to receive a remote signal from my son's Sky box which operates on channel 68. By linking his Sky box and my Freesat box, via a switchable splitter in the second TV room, and adjusting the Modulator to channel 68 (i.e. at the same frequency as the Sky output frequency) I was able to easily choose between Sky and Freesat. It was easy to set up and the picture/sound quality from the Humax was perfect. Sky channels could be changed using a Sky remote "TV link" in the coax line but the Humax Freesat box won't allow you to do this so it was not possible to change the channels remotely in the second room. However, the Modulator did exactly as described and performed perfectly. I am very pleased with this purchase which was available from Amazon at such a reasonable price.

Put life back in that old TV or let's you duplicate the picture on one TV to another some distance away on coax.
Bought this for an old TV that has only a coax Ariel socket, poor old thing. It works exactly as expected after managing to tune into it. Send a signal to it from a known good source like a VCR or satellite box so there is something to tune into. As I write this I seem to remember that it gives no output unless there it has an input with an active signal. So don't try to tune it into the TV first. I think the picture produced is OK but can't comment on how good it would be for anything more complex like propagating a satellite signal through a house. For my purposes 5 stars. 10/11/2013 The device is still working well and is on 24/7. It is proving very handy as a way of keeping the TV in the living room on the same station as a small TV in the kitchen. Both the device and the TV in the living room are fed from the same scart source and a long length of coax goes to the kitchen. 17/6/2015 Still on 24/7 and still working just as good as ever.

a kind of pointless bit of kit these days with poor signal strength to transmit over distance
So, why would anyone want an analogue rf modulator these days? most modern tv's wont work with an analogue rf converter. I was trying to get this (with some other adapters) to transfer a hdmi signal from a blueray player (digital signal) via some digital analogue converter to this to the antenna in the house so that i could get the bluray to play in any room. I got this working if i plugged the tv (old early plasma that still has analogue capability) in right next to it. However when trying to pass the signal through the house splitter (even with the use of two booster boxes) i was unable to get the signal to even pass through about 10 metres of cable to the other side of the room. After continuously struggling decided to give up. There are hdmi (digital) to rf frequency (digital) convertors out there that you could try that will work with modern digital tv's (if you are attempting the same as me) but they come with a very hefty 200 pound plus price tag so i am not sure i am prepared to make that investment due to the risk of that not working either. So to summarise, a kind of pointless bit of kit these days with poor signal strength to transmit over distance.

Funktioniert gut

Eva Wolf
