This is a very impressive 15 inch chess board, with a smart drawer underneath the board to house the chess pieces. I was very impressed with the quality of the whole package. On arrival, the pieces had fallen out of their foam cut-outs in the drawer, but this was perhaps unavoidable. More importantly the set is delivered in a very substantial cardboard box which makes it an excellent gift. The drawer really is the secret ingredient of this design, as the pieces are nicely tidied away, providing you have the patience to place each piece in the correctly shaped foam insert each time. The other option is to remove the foam piece altogether and simply drop the pieces loose into the drawer. The pieces are nicely designed, with excellent detail and an overall feeling of quality to match the board and the drawer. Each piece has felt underneath for smooth, quiet movement during the game. The chess board itself is of a decent size, and although not exactly portable, the set also looks good when left out - it is definitely not something to be hidden away! Overall this is an excellent chess set, which would make a worthy gift for the chess lover in your life. Highly recommended.

if you are buying this set, you'll at least have some idea how to play. its complex so not going any further. however, the board. what can be said about it? there is nothing bad that's for certain. with walnut and maple inlay for the playing area. and walnut for the stand it is in the very least impressive. the playing pieces are weighted and match the board perfectly. it is a large item, and ours has become a centre piece on the coffee table. a game has in progress for a few days now. between work and everything else we're lucky if we get five moves each a day in. love this item. i would have quite happily paid twice the price for it. and, that's saying something.

What a beautifully crafted chess set. We have always been playing with dad while growing up and he planted the love towards chess in me (unfortunately this game is pushed out by all the modern techy games). He had a very battered chess set, which was looked after but it was ancient and well used. Wanted to take this tradition further and got this to play with my son when he will be old enough. This is a large and heavy set, it’s not one to move around, but one you leave on the table as a display piece as well. Has a drawer to put each peace individually away in their padded place. This will last almost forever if looked after!

I really love the beauty in chess sets and if I had the space and money I'd purchase and collect them in all manner of designs from around the world. Chess is a beautiful game that requires lengthy spells of strategic thinking which I believe is good for the mind. I'm certainly no chess wizard but I do love to play but definitely not online as the game is often littered with cheaters. Chess should only ever be played on a physical board. This is a rather basic chess set in my opinion and certainly punching above its weight, price wise at over £56 at time of review. It is constructed nicely but the ad makes it appear that the set is some sort of premium product and to be honest its nice but doesn't ooze premium quality. It arrives in a nice packaging box but I had issues with trying to slide the drawer out which houses all of the chess pieces. The sponge insert and pieces had come loose inside and effectively got trapped as I tried to pull the drawer open. Maybe the box had been thrown around logistically which caused this to happen but after a short while I managed to pry the sponge insert out and free up the pieces. After inspecting each piece etc I was a little disappointed to some of the wood colouring which appears in slightly differing shades which is noticeable in the white pieces. Detailing on each piece is basic and I really expected a higher level of etching and polishing on both the board and pieces. None the less the drawer makes it easy to store the pieces when not in play with each piece sitting in cut out sponge. There are extra queen's as well which is a nice touch if you ever manage to get a pawn to the other end and haven't lost your queen already lol. The selling page for this including the pictures make it appear that this set comes with a set of draughts or checker pieces but I did not get these included. There is even a couple of sponge cut outs ready for accepting them in the drawer. Strange! The board is relatively basic but still looks good in its wood and mildly polished surface. Each piece has a green felt base for keeping the board scratch free and for a more softer placement of your chess pieces. Extra felt pads are supplied. Also supplied are some stickers and a postcard (not sure why lol) The overall quality is good with no major flaws to the board, no scratches or knotting but when you look inside after removing the drawer, you'll be left wondering why you paid over fifty quid for this given the quite basic build. Its a decent, very playable chess set and would look nice on display. It's only really on closer inspection that you realise it's probably a cheapish quality set. Its nicely packed but I do feel the price is asking too much for this set. I love the drawer and way the pieces sit inside but just wished this was highly polished and finished with a little more elegant detailing for the cost.

Beautiful game with chess pieces and checkers. I highly recommend. Arrived well packaged in perfect condition. Quality and workman ship is fabulous. I loved everything about it.
