## Description

Days of Wonder | Ticket to Ride Board Game | Ages 8+ | For 2 to 5 Players | Average Playtime 30-60 Minutes : Moon, Alan R.: desertcart.co.uk: Outlet

Review: A modern classic - Ticket to Ride is one of the classic modern style board games. I've been playing it on iPad for years, and whilst the app is good, it doesn't compare to playing it for real with the beautiful board and the colourful train pieces and cards. Although I was already familiar with the rules, I was surprised by how easy it was to learn for new players - I've introduced three new players to the game and they all picked it up straight away (and annoyingly beat me in some cases!) The one criticism I have is that the train cards and tickets are very small, and seem a bit like they were skimped on. This can be rectified by buying the 1910 expansion which has full sized train cards and tickets, but they really should have been provided as standard. On the opposite size, providing a bag of spare train pieces is a nice touch. The game's fun with two players, and that's how I've always played the app version, but it's especially good with three and four players. The gameplay really is so well designed and keeps the game flowing so well and exciting to the end. Games like Ticket to Ride don't seem to be nearly as well known as they should be. This, together with Carcassonne and perhaps a couple of others should feature just as commonly in homes as do more traditional games like Monopoly (actually more commonly, because it's a much better game than Monopoly). It has a mainstream appeal that I don't think is necessarily made particularly clear by its box and marketing, but I'd highly recommend that people give it a try, and if you like it, have a look at the 1910 expansion and some of the additional maps too.
Review: Great game - Enjoyed by all, highly recommend

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you play the ticket to ride (North American map) rules on the European set?**
A: The European set is also a base game however if you somehow acquired the European map without buying the retail version you could technically play on it. However, you would be missing the train stations.

**Q: For those who have both games: which do you prefer, the American version or Ticket to Ride Europe?**
A: As a seller, most Americans prefer the US version. In Europe, most prefer the European version. On Boardgamegeek, Europe has the higher rating because it is more forgiving. It adds in stations that allow you to skip a blocked section of track.DaveBoardgames4us

**Q: Should i get this version or the united kingdom version as i live in the uk! would that make sense or does it not matter? new to board games.**
A: I'd recommend the original for one reason: Simplicity. The box for the original boasts that the rules can be explained in 2 minutes and it really is true. That's one of the biggest selling points of the game, it's incredibly approachable by all people of all ages. While the other variants are all very similar, they all seem to add in a new mechanic or two which slightly complicate play.

**Q: How playable is this game for just two?**
A: TTR is a great 2 player game. Its more fun with 3-5 I think but still definitely worth playing with 2. Competition over routes is not as intense but it's easier to try and work out where your opponent is headed and mess with their plans. Muahahaha!

I bought this game for our family game nights and it hasn't disappointed. The game is relatively simple in concept, you are competing with each other to gain rail routes across North America and ultimately score the most points. There are bonuses for the longest route and for each route you manage to gain from your cards (kept secret from the other players). We've found the level of complexity is just right for a family game; simple enough for children and to pick up without spending lots of time learning rules, but complex enough to involve strategy and keep things interesting. The board itself is beautiful and intuitively designed, and appears sturdily made. Each player also gets a collection of coloured plastic trains to place on the board which is a nice touch. Our games usually run just under an hour or so, which for us is ideal because it means they don't drag on or require us to set lots of time aside. Although invariable we've enjoyed it so much we play more than one game at a time!
