Are you starting school? How exciting! Following a number of children's first experiences, this picture book takes children right from their very first day to the end of the school year. This reassuring read will support even the most nervous school-starter, exploring each emotion, from fear to excitement, with care. Ideal for starting conversations about any pre-school nerves, this timeless classic is packed with playful illustrations and easy to understand explanations. Starting School, one more Janet and Allan Ahlberg book that gets everything right . - The Guardian Review: Great book. - I bought this for my grandson when he started school last year. He said he enjoyed. It helped him with his big day. Review: Makes a great gift for new school-starters - Even though this was published in the 1980s, it still reflects school life in reception today. Iโve bought this for two friends whose children were starting school and they both said it helped ease their childrenโs nerves of what to expect at school. As a Year 1 teacher myself, I find the content is very child-friendly and inclusive, as well as still showing the way that schools (in England at least) operate in Reception.

Fantastic book
Love this book. Perfect for any child starting school. It explains the transition into school for children that may be worried or need a little bit of reassurance. My child loved this book. He canโt wait to give it to his brother before he starts. Itโs a brilliant book. Iโve bought it twice and even given it as a gift.

Great for children starting in reception
I bought this book for my niece as she was starting school and she really enjoyed reading a book which reflected her new routine and chapter in her life. It encouraged her to then talk about her day and offer new information which she hadnโt previously given. My only criticism is that it is a bit dated but the theme of the book was well received and also went on to discuss the rest of the school year which other school related books have not.

SETTING OUT
We read this lovely, inclusive and positive story to our own children just as they were about to start on their education journey. They loved it. Now, SATs, GCSEs, A-Levels and degrees later, the youngest grandchild has just had it read to her by her parents She loved it. Who knows what lies ahead on her education journey...but this book has been a great starting point.

Book damaged in delivery
The book itself is great, we have our own copy of it and I bought this as a gift. Unfortunately it had sticky paper put on the front of it while being packaged, which ripped the book when I removed it.

This lovely book worked - it got my granddaughter talking about her new school.
This lovely book worked - it got my granddaughter talking about her new school. She started school last week, and she didn't like everyone asking her about going to school. But reading this book with her worked a treat! She was intrigued by the characters in the book. She loved seeing that they had started school too, and she was happy to tell me what was the same and what was different in her school. I think the illustrations are charmingly old fashioned. My granddaughter found them very easy to understand and relate to. I'd recommend reading one day (chapter) per evening as there's quite a lot to see and discuss.

Would be good but unfortunately contains religious material
This book would be good for a child starting school, but unfortunately it assumes that children are religious and are going to be attending a religious school (for a specific religion). This makes it unsuitable for families who are not using a religious school or do not belong to that specific religion.
