Just run the blade up and down several times in slot #1, then again in slot #2. The instructions are on the back of the card that the sharpener is attached to by cable ties. It recommends using the first slot five times and second slot ten times. I doubled that number. Rebel. The knives were sharp enough to cut an apple down the centre effortlessly. No resistance. Minimal force. Yes, I checked each knife.
