Research proved to me that I didn't necessarily have to get a Leatherman Wave if another brand worked, at a more affordable price.This Rocktol is almost $100 less and has almost the same identical functions. Granted the steel has lesser characteristics but any negative user comments are probably related to applying too much torque.Leatherman user reviews also have negative comments such as breaking, stiff movements, binding, etc. For a $100 less, if the Rocktol fails I could buy 3 more.It becomes a personal choice depending on your intended use and budget constraint. It, even like Leatherman, is probably not intended for heavy demanding work.I'm more than satisfied with the Rocktol. It's well made, sharp blades, finish, ease of operation and with all the functions I need as long as I treat it with care and respect of any tool.It's a personal choice, big name or big savings. Research, review and compare.

I do not often write reviews unless I am really impressed with a product. This multi tool is impressive. I search for a leatherman replacement without the higher cost for a reason. I do own many leathermans, including a surge and love them all. So why do I look for a knock off? I have always been in the maintenence field and multi tool is great to have. My wife gave me my first leaherman surge for christmas, unfortunately when using the bathroom it unclipped from my pants, by the time I realized and went back it was gone. I did get another surge and I got the latest free P4 for christmas, which I also love. I left that on top of a toilet paper holder, sent out an email and got lucky it was returned...I then decided no more expensive multi tools for every day carry. I have tried several "Good for the price" multi tools, but often they are not as good as the real thing. Jump ahead to Rocktol purchase....Wow the knives are so sharp...I literally shaved my arm with the straight blade. The wood saw appears to be victorinox quality. Very solid feeling pliers. Scissors a bit small but very functional. Nice file with one side diamond coated. I like the bit holder that you can flip around versus the integral made Phillips. Everyones wish list is different, but for me I like the can/bottle opener in a bind as well as the scraper and mimi evglass driver I use when removing wires from push in outlets. The sheath is also heavy duty and very nicely made. I truly cant see much of a quality difference and if I lose it on a job I won't cry!Thank you Rocktol for building a quality tool at a very reasonable price!!

Very nice and solid tool. Same functions and feel like a Leatherman for the fraction of the price. Even fits in the leather pouch I bought for the Leatherman.

Bought used "like new" recived it with a cut down blade, broken scisors and chipped/missing parts. little frustrating but its what I get for buying used tools. Overall good multitool previous owner beat and abused it and its still sharp and pliers can still pull small hairs and cut wire. 4/5 good tool.

The tool on first usage feels absolutely solid. The action is tight, but with some play gets the gears in motion and functions as you’d want it to.This thing is rock solid and is highly recommend it, the locks work perfectly. The outer four tools are great for quick access.My only gripe is not worth taking a star from since it’s just a personal thing. I would much rather have a full sized pair of scissors than a saw.I’d highly recommend this tool for anyone looking to get a loved one on multitool to try, but don’t want to drop Leatherman prices. Someone who needs a dependable tool for a vehicle fishing kit or hunting bag or someone who just wants a solid built tool

I bought this after using a SOG multitool as a cheap replacement for a Leatherman Wave I lost a few years back, while the SOG was a decent substitute, had plenty of features, it never felt as sturdy as the leatherman. I came across this and noticed ti had a very similar form factor to the Wave and good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a chance. Glad I did, so far it checks all the boxes, it's sturdy, has most of the features I was looking for (blades are sharp and keep a good edge, locking mechanisms work without fail, can use standard 1/4" bits) and at less than half the cost of the Wave!I have been using multitools for probably 20+ years and have tried many good one's and some that weren't even worth returning and ended up in the bin, this one definitely falls in the high end of my favourite multitools.There are a couple cons, I do miss the double ended precision screwdriver the wave had & wish it had a pocket clip (which the wave only had a lanyard loop). *I just found out that Rocktol actually sells a pocket clip compatible with 3 of their knives on their website*So, if you're on the fence about trying this as a budget substitute (I won't call this cheap, as that implies poor quality, which this is far from!), don't, give it a chance and you'll be pleasently surprised.

I wasn't sure about this but judging from the reviews I figured it was worth a shot. They were correct this is actually built as well has any of the name brand multi-tools for a fraction of the cost. I really like the fact that it's got a fairly substantial knife blade plus two different levels of serrated blade one that's an actual saw and one that you could use for other purposes that you don't need to cut trees with. The tools come in and out fine, the pliers are solid and everything works. I would have preferred that the bit socket be a standard size so that you can use any quarter inch bit but it's not so hang on to the one that comes with it or else that parts useless.The sheath could be a little stronger. For some reason they seem to cheap out on all of these but I pocket carry it so I'm not that worried. All in all if you're looking for a multi-tool gift for someone this wouldn't be a bad choice

It wasnt able to hold up to the rotational forces i was putting on it. Also, the teeth in the pliers gave up pretty quickly, but overall its a nice alternative to a Leatherman for very much less!

The tools open smoothly and the locks all work properly. However, it is too heavy in my opinion for even a belt carry. Best put it in a tool kit at home, or in the car, for when required. Not for carrying around long distances, e.g. hiking (for that invest in a reasonable weighing SAK or Leatherman).

Great purchase, feels really solid with exactly the tools I need. I always keep it in my backpack. Well worth the price, great value

I've used the Leatherman Wave for years, I bought this for my Son at Christmas and when I lost my Leatherman I replaced it with this. It is slightly different than the Wave but very high quality. I'm not sure if it has the same repair/replacement warranty as the Leatherman but I usually lose them before they wear out to the point of returning for repair so $60 instead of $160 makes way more sense.

I've had this tool for a couple of weeks and all the functions have been working fine, except the scissors. After only using them a handful of times, the dimple that's supposed to hold the torsion spring in place pops out whenever I make a cut, so they only open halfway on their own now. I'm not sure if I can fix them, but it's probably not worth the effort, since I can open them up for the next cut with my thumb easily enough. It's just the kind of problem you have to expect when using these cheap knockoffs. They look nice on the outside, but the quality and craftsmanship aren't up to the standard of the originals.
