The instructions for use of this device are very poor and most people will write off a number of eggs before they get it to work properly. I have seen other reviews on this item, but I did not find anybody revealing what the sprung section of the device actually does. It does not create a vacuum, as one reviewer ventured, it is simply a sprung hammer to make the cutter dig into the egg without completely destroying it. I have found that the best way for me to make it work is to put the egg into an egg cup - thinner pointed side down. Place the gadget onto the egg and hold it in-place gently. Lift the round knob of the gadget to the extent of its travel and let go of it. Do this once more and then gently lift of the shell. It does not come off easily, just tug gently until it comes away. I user a paper towel to hold the hot egg while I do this last part. Good luck

Amazing little tool. Why have I struggled for 60 years to cut the top off eggs and been eating shards of eggshell and not know about this handy tool. Honestly I thought it was a gimmick when I bought it but no it really does work and such good quality stainless steel as well.

Doesn't work on very large Burford eggs. Smashes the whole egg!

It worked fine exempt when you come to lifting the cap off which it doses not .I had to resort to a knife to cut through which it does just fine. On the whole it is better than having to cut through initially with a knife.

this shot is my third attempt , i have now got much better at topping my eggs and 3 short sharp shocks work nearly every time for perfectly topped eggs . simple and stylish this topper is a game changer - love it

Nice gadget used quite a few times found it great although occasionally doesn’t always cut clean but 100% better than hitting with tea spoon and cutting with a knife NO shell going into the egg

Honestly, do I really need this? NO. But do I enjoy it, and use it every-single-day? YES! It does help with taking the top off, but let's be honest, it's also fairly easy to do this with a normal teaspoon. What this DOES do, however, is make the preparing of my soft boiled egg an event, a moment, a mini ceremony that I really enjoy and look forward to. It also really does greatly reduce the amount of shell that will end up in your mouth when you crack your egg. It doesn't cost a lot, just get it! :)
