Michael Jackson Live At Wembley July 16, 1988 [DVD] [2012] [NTSC]

To start off i am a huge fan, so I have seen most Michael footage out there already. This is an absolute must for any fan, i believe from the hundreds of concerts this man has done only the Dangerous one in Bucharest was out on dvd. Now I love all of his music, however what i desperately wanted to have was a great quality BAD concert, i've seen most live's from Japan and so on but i wanted something well put together in great quality. When i heard this was getting released i was ecstatic so jumped at buying it and i am not disappointed. Do not expect HD quality, as those were different days and even if the technology might have been there, he has done over one hundred of these during BAD. What you should expect is a good quality dvd (it has been made to look a full length concert but some songs are taken from different days) complete with the ingenuity, fire, and perfection level this incredible man was at during BAD world tour. Also as a note as far as i am aware, he has never performed ALL of these in one concert, and if you've seen a fair bit of footage from this tour you know he has dropped a few songs and added new ones about half a year in the tour. However, this includes the following: Wanna be Startin' Somethin' This Place Hotel/ Heartbreak Hotel Another Part of Me I Just Can't Stop Loving You She's Out Of My Life I Want You Back/The Love You Save I'll Be There Rock With You Human Nature Smooth Criminal Dirty Diana Thriller Band Jam Working Day And Night Beat It Billie Jean Bad Man In The Mirror Bonus: The Way You Make Me Feel I Just Can't Stop Loving You This also includes a little booklet with all the concert dates for the entire BAD tour along with locations and pictures, very nice touch. If you're an MJ fan and especially love the BAD Era, this is an absolute must.

I am a Michael Jackson fan.I saw him twice on the BAD World tour.Once at Wembley and the final UK show at Aintree Racecourse.The Wembley show I saw was the week after this DVD(i/e 23/7/88).This DVD is very good.The quality is very clear and the sound is good considering it was transferred from VHS.The dancing and special effects have to be seen to be believed.It brought so much memories back for me.I have been waiting for a full concert DVD of the BAD World Tour for ages.This DVD does not disappoint.A less well known song is 'Heartbreak Hotel'.This is second on the song list and is performed really well,setting the tone for the rest of the show.When you see this DVD and consider he performed for over two hours,you can only say what a supreme talent he was.The dancing on the popular songs-Thriller,Billie Jean, Beat It, is just excellent.I can only say this is Michael at the peak of his career.A talent that we will never ever see again.

Like many others, I was there in July 1988, up at the front barrier, with my mate Barry, having waited hours to see Michael Jackson at the peak of his career. Our expectations were incredibly high, and the show exceeded them all. Having noticed all the cameras at the show, I have waited 24 years to see a film release of this piece of magic. This DVD comes in a digipack which is somewhere between CD and standard DVd casing in size. It contains a nice little booklet with the 1988 tour dates. The video quality is better than some have suggested - it is clear enough, and not as rough as a VHS tape would be on my modern LCD screen. But it's not brilliant either. The colours bleed and the whole thing is a lacks the sharpness we are accustomed to these days. Nevertheless, it is easily watchable. Don't expect 5.1 dolby surround either - the sound is rather poor, but again, quite acceptible. My biggest disappointment is in the detail that is lost in the lighting and atmosphere. The show was so bright and colourful and explosive. For example, the opening of the show was a long rumble of smoke and bass and blinding lights which set my rib cage rattling and sent the hot, swaying crowd mad with anticipation. None of that is captured here. I remember the amazing laser/lighting effects during "Human Naure" and at the end of Billie Jean. Such effects might have been dated by today's standards, but I will never know, for they are lost entirely here (The lighting was captured a little better on the Bucharest DVD, taken from a different tour, and with its own faults, but at least you get the idea). I am so glad this footage exists, although I wonder if Michael himself did not want us seeing these recordings because he was such a perfectionist. He would have preferred the magic of the event to live on in our hearts and memories after the live show, rather than be exposed to the scrutiny and limitations of film. Perhaps this release could never match expectations. Maybe one day we will see a restored Blu-ray (or even cinema) release of these shows in all their glory. Even then, perhaps that magic could never be re-created. Whatever the case, this is the best we will get for now.

A great performance from a great artist! I cannot rate this DVD highly enough. The sound is great and really captures the atmosphere of that famous performance at Wembley Stadium. I don't understand why people are saying that the picture is of a poor quality, I found the DVD enjoyable and the picture was perfect. This was recorded in the 80's, it's not going to be a perfect picture but it's pretty damn good. It's just like watching a programme on a normal channel instead of watching it on the HD channel. You can't get any better than the King of Pop, and this DVD dos not ruin the performance in the slightest. All in all I highly recommend this product for any one who enjoys Michael Jackson's music and performances :)

Bought this with great expectation. Unfortunately was not as good as I thought it would be. Was I expecting too much I ask myself. I have the dvd of the concert Michael did in Yokahama, Japan. This is a brilliant show, fresh and exciting. I feel the show in London was a tad tired. I know this was transferred from a 24 year old vhs but I still think with all the modern technology these days quality could have been better. Nevertheless, its Michael and its always good to see him where he was most comfortable and happy.

AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME.There was a point during Jackson performing Billie Jean i literally thought the man was going to set fire to the stage.This guy was the DON,the King.This transcends performing,the man seems to be controlling time and space.I had endorphines pouring into my brain watching this dvd as Jackson beats his audience into submission with excellence.Its hit after hit.style after style....no way on earth am i going to see a better artist then this ever,it blew my mind.The concert felt like a journey.....i am most of the time a cynic who sees his glass as half empty but boy do i forget all of that whilst watching Jackson. The man was entertainment on legs.Pure talent.There has been a lot of conjecture about the quality of picture,its FINE....obviously sourced from vhs tapes but i couldn't give a fig.I thought the filming was great,at times inches away from the King.I loved all the songs,all the performances...this for me as a performance is bigger then five stars.Say what you want about Jackson,put him on a stage,in front of a mike,a camera....ya finished. I watched Jackson in an interview from around the Thriller days and he said he wants his work to be magic,he achieved that.A visionary,an artist,a magician......the king.

I was delighted when I heard this was finally getting released. I knew it would be great and it certainly was worth the wait. My favourites are Rock With You, Human Nature and Smooth Criminal. Obviously, everyone knows how outrageously talented this guy was, but what I find equally impressive is just how hard he works. I mean here is a man who had achieved everything by the age of 25 and yet still puts in maximum effort everytime. A true grafter. That really does come across clearly in this concert. The fact that nobody has come anywhere close to even matching his performance levels even all these years later really does underline how great he was. The acid test of any artist is how good they are live and well there's nobody better than Michael Jackson in that regard. I had read a lot of scare-mongering about picture quality on this DVD. Its from 1988 so its clearly not HD. But frankly:-who cares? Its still very good picture quality, I was surprised how good and really pleased with that. And blown away by the concert. Love it. Michael Jackson at Wembley in 1988 was(and still is) THE best concert that I'd seen in my life. I was happy for several weeks after the event. I was a bit apprehensive about the dvd picture quality having read some other reviews ,but ignored them and purchased it anyway. Some elements of the "Bad" Tour ,MJ must have felt were successful because he was to reprise them in the "Dangerous" Tour viz the medley of Jackson Five hits and you can tell by the crowd noise how well they went down. The live voice combined with the choreography was something to behold...just weatch those feet on "Smooth Criminal" and "Billie Jean" I came away from the concert singing "Man in The Mirror". For those of you who never had the privilege of seeing Michael Jackson turn the volume up and indulge in is a fleeting reminder of how good the man was at his peak.

What an exceptional human being and performer Michael was. This helped me catch up with his great music which gives me energy.

If you are not one of those people who are so spoiled by modern technology that they are only able to enjoy something if it's HD/Blue-ray quality then I highly recommend this concert! Jackson's Estate did not make a secret of the fact that they could only find an old VHS in his personal collection from which they could restore the video of this concert. The camera angles aren't perfect either as what you see on the video is what was recorded for the Jumbotrons during the concert. The audio on the other hand was recorded on multitracks, so that's great. Despite of these handicaps I still rate this concert 5 stars because Jackson's mesmerizing performance more than makes up for them! Surprisingly the stage show is rather purist, especially compared to what we see in many concerts today. No spectacular stage scenes, no high-tech effects, no laser shows, no fireworks, not even an army of dancers (there are only four, besides Jackson himself), no strip shows, no pole dancers. There are a couple of costume changes (like the inevitable warewolf and zombies in Thriller), but we cannot talk about a parade of spectacular costumes either. Mainly it's just Jackson and his singing and dancing. And that is good so! Actually it's one of the most impressive things to me about this concert and Jackson himself: that the concert has a kind of magic feel to it, you just cannot take your eyes off the screen for two straight hours, it's highly entertaining, enjoyable, uplifting, breath-taking, mesmerizing - and that's all down to Jackson and his talent, charisma and stage presence and not to stage gimmicks and high-tech! He was a truly great performer. Maybe because of the lack of gimmicks and high-tech, but the concert has a kind of intimate charm too - if you can say that about a show in front of 72,000 people. It's hard to put this into words but I don't see the type of mechanical, calculating, cold artificiality in it that I see in so many concerts by other singing-dancing stars. Jackson is light on his feet, he's cool, relaxed, joyful, clearly enjoying himself, like he was born to do it. He probably was. His happiness is infectious too. And all the while he's putting on an amazing show.

Imperdibile concerto per i fan di MJ!! puro anni '80. Michael da il meglio di sé in questa performance a Wembley!. DVD di ottima fattura, la qualità del prodotto è alta. Ovviamente il concerto non è HD ma si vede benissimo lo stesso ed il suono è eccellente in Dolby 5.1. Ci sono anche due canzoni/esibizioni non presenti nella tracklist di quella sera.
