Highly recommended
My 7 years old son loves the book. Short and compact advice and interesting facts

Enjoyed by children
Nice cover. A few more illustrations inside would help. However, proved a popular present for adventure seeking children. Have to recommend this for 7 to 13 year olds. ( Probably a wider range of ages actually). Good interesting chapters and text.

Entertaining and full of some genuinely useful advice
I bought this book for someone about to take a gap year in Canada thinking it would be a bit of fun before he went. Unfortunately, before wrapping it I opened it to have a look and ended up reading the whole bookIt says at the beginning that this is mainly written for entertainment, and it is entertaining, but there’s an awful lot of good advice in here about survival when things go wrong. Ways to distil safe water using an adapted plastic bottle makes sound sense and could make a huge difference to someone caught out without a clean water supply. There’s plenty of valuable advice on coping with various injuries and how to deal with wildlife. Different ways to navigate when lost, how to make signals and even how to make a whistle out of a can are all in here along with some common issues such as getting escaping a riptide. This is a very readable book and one that does contain genuinely valuable information. I’m docking it one star because some of it would have been much clearer with a simple illustration – things such as knots or bandages, for instance. However, I think it’s a great book for giving to a student going off on a venture. Some of it may be useful, but it’s an enjoyable and light read too.

Great book for kids!
Real survival tips for numerous different situations. My 10 year old son absolutely loved this and read it in one day (given that I usually have to twist his arm to get him to read, this was great!). The title also got a good laugh from him, so nothing but positive reviews here!

Great book for grandson
Great book for grandson who is 11 yr old. I wanted to keep it I thought it was very interesting. I think one could even write an essay or report because it has some interesting information. Good quality I just with there would be more colors and illustrations that make it stand out more.

Solutions to ‘what-ifs’ from a wise and helpful guide
Bill O’Neill (aka Trivia Bill) never ceases to amaze! He has enhanced our knowledge of the world with his many books on all sports trivia, unexplained mysteries, interesting stories, Hollywood secrets, the CIA, little known facts about WW I & II, the Civil War, and the Korean and Vietnam wars, inventions, many countries and states, rock and roll, the Titanic, decades of madness, famous ‘badass’ figures of history, and more and more. Now he steps up with a Survival Guide – hardly trivial! - but just as interesting and informed and accessible as his other very popular books.Reading this book is akin to having a personal guardian who just appears when things get strange or tough, bits of info that can avert potential disasters, such as extinguishing a fire (and building a fire!), surviving a night on a mountain, fixing a broken bone or sterilize a wound or restart a heart, making a tourniquet, gutting and cleaning a fish, surviving a meteor crash, making a life preserver, a slingshot, a makeshift canoe, hot wiring an engine, surviving an earthquake or snow storm or wildfire, how to escape from zip ties or a straightjacket, how to pick a lock or smash a window or land a plane – the list goes on and on with 127 topics well described in Bill’s user friendly technique. As the world grows crazier by the day, with natural and man-made crises, this little handbook belongs in everyone’s hip pocket – or purse – or backpack – or glove compartment…Very Highly Recommended!!!!!

Great gift for that hard to shop for person on your list!
This book turned out to be a great gift for a teen who is usually hard to shop for. My 17-year-old niece immediately laughed when she read the title and started flipping through it right away. Before long, she was reading scenarios out loud to everyone in the room, which sparked a lot of conversation and laughs. The format makes it easy to jump into any section without needing to read it cover to cover. The scenarios are written in a humorous but still thoughtful way, which kept both teens and adults engaged. One of the favorites at our gathering was the scenario about how to survive a bear attack, which led to some surprisingly fun discussions. One small downside is that some scenarios are pretty short, so readers looking for deeper explanations might want more detail. That said, it works well for what it’s meant to be—a light, entertaining book that brings people together. This would be a fun gift for teens, young adults, or anyone who enjoys quirky, conversation-starting books.
