Not bad...
As a pro shooter I was looking for something smaller and more inline with professional shotgun microphones which basically just plug into your camera without all the software and infrequencer gimmickry. In general I usually use the Tascam DR-40X handheld recorder as my audio solution for my DSLR cameras. Even though it's mics are excellent and allows me to use my professional phantom power shotgun mics, it requires to be powered up and put in standby mode every time I start recording and needs to be reconfigured every time I want to use my phantom powered shotgun mics. The Rode Video Micro II shotgun mic eliminates these extra steps while also being lighter and much more compact, while still offering high quality acceptable audio. I am impressed with it's audio quality and when used with my Olympus OM1 its output level is ideal. It is very clean with a flat response curve without the booming bass I usually find with other mics in this price range. Another excellent feature is that it also includes a foam and dead cat wind screen. The dead cat is a must have for shooting outdoors. This micro condenser shotgun mic should be in every pro shooters kit. Plus it easy to use for family videos and casual shooting. This mic is now a fixture on all my DSLR cameras. Highly recommend.

Great compact mic, no external power required.
The RØDE VideoMicro II has been an excellent addition to my video recording setup. Its ultra-compact design and premium build quality immediately stand out when you first handle it. The all-metal construction feels solid but still lightweight. This is important because I'm using it on a small GoPro. What's most impressive is the audio quality this tiny microphone delivers. The supercardioid pickup pattern effectively captures clear, focused sound from subjects in front of the camera while minimizing background noise. I appreciate the thoughtful design of this external mic. The simplicity of use is another advantage. There are no batteries required or complicated controls to fiddle with – just plug it in and start recording. This makes it ideal for quick setups when inspiration strikes or when I'm traveling light. The included cables for both camera (TRS) and smartphone (TRRS) connections add to its versatility. Overall, the RØDE VideoMicro II delivers quality audio in a convenient compact package. I know there are knockoffs you can get for cheaper but if you want the real thing, buy this one.

Perfect mic for multiple camera setups
I recently used this microphone with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, and it works great. The directionality really enhances our audio quality, taking our recordings to the next level. I took it on vacation to Bora Bora, where we filmed unforgettable moments, and it proved to be incredibly durable. Despite dropping the mic several times, it showed no signs of damage, which is impressive. The compact size is another bonus, making it easy to carry along. It doesn't impact the battery life of my phone, which is essential for long filming sessions. Considering the high-quality results we achieve, I believe the value is well worth it. I can easily see this microphone being useful for other cameras, like my full-frame Sony or Fuji as well.

Great mic but shock mount causes audible turbulence
I use this mic on my Sony ZV-E10 every day. I also have the Rode NT-1 studio condenser mic, but my students say the VideoMicro II is clearer and so it's easier for them to hear my voice. I suspect this is due to it having strong response in the mids (where the voice resides) and less in the higher and lower ranges. (It's probably also better when played back on the students' laptop speakers or cheap earphones, which probably also lack highs and lows.) So, for this purpose, it works perfectly. However, it's not so good outdoors. Sometimes I record students outdoors for promotional videos. The included wind protection options are great, but after some testing I discovered that there is excessive wind noise when the wind comes from the side or back. This is due to the flat, ribbon-like shape of the shock mount. If you cover this area on the rear of the mic (and it would probably help to cover the cable too), you can blast it with powerful wind and it stays silent (as confirmed by my tests in a controlled environment). Recommended for indoor use only, or outdoors if you don't mind rigging up an extra cover for the shock mount to supplement the benefits of the fluffy wind shield. It's also highly directional, which is good if you want to somewhat isolate one speaker in a noisy location. I often mount it on a pole with a long cable and use it like a field reporter. Works perfectly and sounds great when you get closer to the interviewee (and without having to stick the camera right in their face).

I only used it for one day, put it away, and it never worked again.
I only used it once, and it's already broken; it could be a counterfeit or a very low-quality product. I don't recommend it, and I've already lost my money.

Good microphone and the best AI chatbot support I've encountered
I don't normally give 5 star reviews but this goes beyond the product. RODE earned that 5th star. The microphone is certainly more sensitive than the MOVO VXR10 and the SmallRig Forevala S20, two very popular camera microphones on Amazon. The VideoMicro 2 performs much better than those 2 in quiet environments. Is it worth double the price? That's your decision to make but I am content with the $80 I spent for the VideoMicro 2. SmallRig's gimmick of including a lav mic and a way to connect it is nice. But a good lav mic can be had later on with a cheap Y adapter. The VideoMicro 2's deadcat and foam windsocks are quite a bit larger than the competition. But is almost necessary. I do not recommend running the microphone without these installed as the popping sounds from speech are very noticeable. The microphone mount is your standard cold shoe. If you own a camera such as the Sony ZV-E10 Mk1 or Mk2 you will need an adapter that slides into your smaller proprietary hotshoe. Another note about the mount. You will need a 3/8in to 1/4 in grub screw adapter. The mount uses the larger 3/8in screw and is not compatible with most consumer tripods and mounting equipment. What earned my 5th star despite some of these minor compromises is the website support. I had a simple question as to why there is a metal contact on top of the microphone. I've seen it on several of RODE's microphones. Now I don't support AI chat bots to fully replace humans but RODE's implementation of it was perfect. I had a question about the metal contact and the chat bot answered it. It's an alignment tool to ensure the microphone is oriented correctly in the mount. The inquiry was over in 2 minutes. THIS is how AI support should be done. Answer the simple questions and move to a human for anything more complicated.

Compact yet professional quality sound!
Weight is everything when you already have a heavy video rig and are trying to save as much weight as possible. At 39g the Rode Video Micro II does just that. Saves on the weight without sacrificing performance. With no battery required, the Rode Video Micro II boasts an easy plug and play design that is perfect for content creators of all kinds. Included is a TRS to TRS cable (the black one) for DSLR/Mirrorless cameras and also a TRS to TRRS cable for smartphones and tablets (the red one). Make sure you use the correct cable. I didn't read the instructions and made the mistake of using the incorrect one with my Sony A7IV. The cardioid polar pattern for focused audio provides professional grade sound while minimizing background noise and focusing on the subject directly in front of the microphone. I really appreciate the all metal body, rycote helix isolation mount, and both the foam and furry windshields included. Rode provided a fantastic, high quality, professional grade compact microphone that saves weight and sounds amazing. I would highly recommend this to any content creator looking for a lightweight compact professional grade microphone.

A cost-effective way to improve the quality of your sound recordings
I recently wanted to purchase an external mic for my camera and spent a fair amount of time researching various options. I decided on this model for a couple of reasons. Firstly it is lightweight and small which is important for me as I sometimes mount my camera on a gimbal so need a mic with a low profile and ideally a low weight. This fits the bill on both accounts and doesn't cause any issues with snagging when fitted on a Sony ZV-E10 II mounted on a DJI RS 4 Mini The second reason is that Rode are one of the best-known manufacturers of microphones and have a reputation for quality. This model doesn't disappoint and gives excellent sound quality, noticeably better than the internal mic on the camera. Despite the light weight, the mic doesn't flop around as much as the previous version did - the design of the mount has been updated and this is an obvious improvement over the original. I also own the older version and the mic would flop down in use - this one is a lot more solid. The mic comes with a foam pop filter which is easy to fit, plus a furry "dead cat" filter. The mount fits to any camera hot shoe as well as a standard cold shoe mount on external brackets etc... The supplied cables give you the option to plug into both TRS and TRRS devices. Often the cables are a bit of an after-thought, however the ones supplied with this mic are perfect for on camera use, being short and very flexible. This particular mic isn't powered, so there's no need to fit a battery - this helps keep the size and weight down too. Overall, I've been very pleased with this - it's a great quality mic for the price and a good way to improve the sound quality of your videos without adding to the size and weight of your camera. It's easy to spend a fair bit more than this, but so far I've not felt that I'm missing out on any of the features of the more expensive mics.
