The rod does get hot to the touch, but not so hot that it will affect anything in your safe. I have mine placed horizontally in front of the door. The temp inside has risen between 8-10 degrees, and humidity has dropped from 65% to 47%. I use this in addition to a pair of Eva-Dry Wireless Mini Dehumidifiers and a Govee Bluetooth Hygrometer Thermometer to make sure things stay copacetic inside the safe.

The best dehumidifier rod for safes that I’ve ever used! Easy to mount and the different sizes you can get will fit any situation you want. My first Golden rod is still going strong and it’s 8-10 yrs old, I bought two more and hopefully they last just as long. Definitely worth the money, not that they are high priced, you pay for what you get. Heat output is surprisingly good, never had an issue with the first one. Highly recommend it!! I bought a cheap one in a hurry and it didn’t last 6 months.

Excellent Dehumidifier for Large Safes!!! The 36-inch model is quite long so make sure you are a large safe. I also found their "mounting" brackets - just a couple cheap plastic holders to be useless but I couldn't mount the unit on my safe floor anyways because it got in the way of the door / contents. The solultion? I have this unit hanging vertically on the inside right corner. It fits perfectly there and is easily supported by some ammo (or anything else that weighs about 5 pounds+) on the upper shelves of the safe. Before buying a 70 pint / day Dehumidifier, the unfinished basement room where my safe is located was running about 60-70% humidity during the summer and the inside of the safe was near 50% even with various rechargable units and packets. Now humidity in the safe runs steadily near 20% and never exceeds 30%. It's true that all this unit does is procude enough heat to thwart moisture, but apparently that's all it takes!! Regarding the "heat," I just make sure the rod is free standing and not touching anything. It's not going to burn your arm off but you wouldn't want to to grab it with both hands either. As long as its not directly touching your valuables or the interior of a non-metal safe you are good to go. So happy I bought this, you will be too!!! PS for those interested, the dehumidifier I bought from Amazon is the "hOmeLabs 9 Gallon (70 Pint) Dehumidifier Energy Star Safe Mid Size Portable Dehumidifiers for Basements Large Rooms up to 4000 Sq Ft with Fan Wheels and Drain Hose Outlet to Remove Odor and Allergens" - I LOVE IT!!! Had a plumber hook it up for continuous running with no emptying buckets - unit works great!

Product works great. Goldenrods are an established and well-known solution. However, my order was "brand new" and had clearly been returned as the plug was already assembled. So, I removed a star for false advertisement on Amazons part.

Does what it's supposed to do. Doesn't take up much space. Easy setup. No moisture or mildew in my safe.

I bought this to replace a Goldenrod that stopped working. Before I received this item, and out of curiosity, I wrote Lockdown cooperation asking about their warranty because I no longer had a copy of the receipt. Lockdown replied asking me to send photos of my old Goldenrod, part number & serial number. To my great surprise, Lockdown sent a brand new Goldenrod to me! I love Lockdown Goldenrods!

I purchased this for my gun/rifle safe back on 01/19/2018. I also keep a hygrometer in the safe that tells me the current and average temperatures and humidity. Just over 7 1/2 years later, it is still working as good as the first day I plugged it in. I only unplugged it one time for the day that we moved to our new home. It does a great job at helping to protect my firearms. I highly recommend it. I do also keep one of those things that you plug into the wall every so often, then place in the safe; along with one of those cans that you occasionally heat up in the stove, then place in your safe, to also help maintain the correct temperatures and humidity (can’t remember what they’re called at the moment). Though, I will say; that after a few years, I have gotten lazy about reheating the can and plugging in the other thing. These things together (mostly the rod) have kept any rust off of my guns. I was not paid or offered anything for this review. I just occasionally check the rod to make sure it’s still working; and today thought to myself, “I think it’s been long enough to leave a solid review on usefulness & longevity. I don’t e see the usefulness of reviews that say “I bought it yesterday, and it’s working great”. I want to know if it’s still going to be working after some years.
