There are two different models here. One of them has a built in Wi-fi extender which extends an existing Wi-fi network from your current router. When installed the blue led flashes and you use your phone to connect to the sockets Wi-fi network called BG. Once connected you use your phone to connect to bg.repeater.net which then guides you through to select your own router network. From there you enter your current Wi-fi network password and then confirm. You also need to make sure the tick box on this page is ticked so the socket also takes on the same network name and password as your current network. All your devices will then connect to this socket when in range and treat it as if it was your current network. The setup is very easy and takes about 2 mins minus the actual installation of the unit to the mains supply. **Q: Does this extend my existing wifi network OR will it create a second ‘new’ wifi network?** A: Old question, but this can do BOTH as I discovered when I set mine up earlier. Select the current wifi to grab the signal and then select if you wish to extend with current details or create a new one. No disadvantage to either option. **Q: Are the usb terminals wired seprately. or does the whole thing just get wired in, as would a standard wall socket without usb terminals?** A: Wire as a standard socket the USB ports then become "live" **Q: How easy is it to install this? Is it like a normal wall socket?** A: Very easy and as normal. Remove the cables from the normal one and fix it to this one.The cables are colour coded so you wouldn't get it wrong. You can take a photo of your old wiring from the plug so that you can ref to it. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Looks great and wifi works great! *by H***. on 30 April 2021* I wanted to extend my wifi out into the garden, so put this on a socket in the kitchen nearest my back door. I'm pleased to say that it works great and I now have wifi in every corner of my garden. This will be great for post lockdown BBQs and parties this summer, getting spotify blasting out!I found setting up the wifi really easy. I used my phone to connect to the "wi-fi socket" SSID wifi network, then scanned the QR code which is in the install leaflet (can also download the doc from the web for future usage if you lose this or can't find it in the future). This opens a web page which prompts you to scan for wifi networks in range. You select the one you want, it connects and that's it!One thing to note though... As I liked the look of it, I bought matching double sockets for the other sockets in the kitchen, so had to turn the power off. This meant the wifi had to be reset when I turned the power back on. I'd thrown the instructions away, so found them online, but I'd forgotten to connect to the "wi-fi socket" SSID before scanning the QR code, so it wouldn't work. I eventually figured it out and it worked no problem. However I then replaced another socket in the hall and found that when I turned the power back on, the "wi-fi socket" SSID was not showing up on my phone, even when I turned the power on and off a few times at the fuse box. However I eventually pressed the button on the socket for about 30 seconds and it reset itself and the wi-fi socket network showed up on my phone and I was set up within a minute. It's been working fine ever since. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Know What You're Buying... *by J***E on 24 November 2020* There are a lot of negative reviews left here by people who don't appear to have done much research before they bought this. If you want to extend a 2.4GHz network for something like a CCTV camera, Echo or SmartHome products or something else which uses limited internet bandwidth then this is ideal and incredibly easy to set up.Most modern routers offer dual band WiFi - 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Most modern devices, including consoles, iPads and your phone will by default connect using 5Ghz. Most routers offer separate 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands, but not all of them are set to provide the separated bands by default. You will need to go into your router settings to split the bands, otherwise this repeater might not function properly [for what it's worth, my Virgin router offered both bands by fault, but my girlfriends EE router didn't and it took a little bit of troubleshooting to split the bands and get the socket to work].If you want to extend the range of your 5GHz WiFi then this product probably isn't for you. If your router doesn't offer separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands then this product might not be for you either. If you're trying to stream Netflix in HD in a room 40 meters from your router then this product probably isn't for you. If you want to connect your external wireless cameras, your Amazon Echo or other smart home devices to a 2.4GHz wireless network, then this is an incredible effective, clean and easy solution. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great and recommended - but read... *by S***R on 4 May 2020* Extends the signal well, installed at the front of the house which allows the new car to connect to Wi-fi and sync driving data etc. While the signal strength is improved I found the Internet speed slowed dramatically when using the same name (SSID) but after a reset and set back up to use a different SSID it works really well, I actually prefer it that way anyway as I know which access point I’m connected to and devices in different parts of the house don’t keep jumping between them.
