The balls are slightly larger than a ping pong ball, so not a choking hazard. I added a few more colored ping pong balls for my toddler to use with it in addition to the 3 rattle balls it comes with. They work perfectly with it & increase the fun as multiple balls spiral down the tiers (btw, the mispelling of that word in the title description really bugs me.
