Culpeper's Complete Herbal: Over 400 Herbs and Their Uses

Beautiful reference! This makes a wonderful addition to my herbal library. Culpeppers is a classic. My only wish would be larger monographs to see the details.

Get this book! But use with caution! While it lists herbs galore, their is no indication or toxic plants, so please cross reference and research! The amount of information is beautiful!

This is nice to hold, and interesting to read, but lacks a good index. Though the added herbs are nice, if you plan on using the book for any sort of medical reason I would suggest buying a more comprehensive version of this Herbal that includes an index. There are also versions with full color pictures. This is more of a nostalgic book than a practical one.

Oldest reprinted book vary good on herbs uses and if they poisonous or not .

Lovely pen and ink sketches of plants packed with great information. Love it!

Great book

The info is probably solid and it's thorough...but it's a tough read.

Complete with astro signatures and growing properties

As it says it was the complete work, I thought it was a reproduction of the manuscript. Disappointment...

A handy guide to herbs

There are several versions of this book available on Kindle (and also in paperback and hard cover). Some are difficult to read, appearing to have just been scanned. The editor of this book has done an excellent job of presenting the information in modern English and an intelligible manner, including hyperlinks within the book. Culpepper, as both a physician and apothecary, believed in the then accepted Galen theory of bodily humours (not displaced until the 1800's), so while the actual medical advice is of questionable effective value, it is of historic interest as a view into the mind of the contemporary physician, and the decription of the plants and their use/ misuse is of some practical interest. Even today many of the plants are used in 'alternative' medicine.

I have a fabulous library for herbs and such and this is a perfect addition to it. Culpeper is a household name when it comes to herbal knowledge, so you can't go wrong. Easy to read and understand.
