UPDATED** Buy this, it's the best freaking heating pad you'll ever own.
**2025 Update** I’ve used this same heating pad for 8 years. I’m 41 now and I love it. My switch has broken twice, but I’ve found ways around it, haha. It still works, just the switch is messed up. I still recommend this to anyone! First of all, I'll explain my pain history: I'm 33, female and significantly overweight. That being said, ever since I got my first job when I was 18, which was standing at a register, I've had back pain. I've learned to deal with it better, but it's pretty much always there. Fast forward to 2009 when I moved and started sleeping on a different mattress. No matter what I did, my back would hurt between my shoulders when I slept flat. This went to sleeping on the couch for about a year, and then finally going back to bed and sleeping on an incline, since it was the only position that didn't hurt between my shoulders. Later on, it would hurt my lower back sleeping in that position. Sleeping on my side still hurts after a while between my shoulders. Fast forward again to April 2016 when I began to lose weight. Of course losing the weight helped with my back, and I also became a runner. Running hurt my back and my hips, but, I figured it was just my posture as I ran, but it hurt to run upright, if that makes sense. Imagine running looking at your feet, it's like that. September of 2017 I, admittedly, was trying to do too much. I was cooking dinner, and exercising and decided I'd go on a quick run around the neighborhood while the chicken was cooking. I fell and broke my fifth metacarpal in my left hand, got road rash on my left knee and bumped my head on the concrete. Needless to say, I was out of running commission for quite a while. I haven't really ran since, and it's December of 2017 as I write this. That being said, I believe me going from exercising/running 3-5 times a week, to absolutely nothing and being a couch potato weakened my back muscles greatly. This all came to a head around October or so. I decided to bite the bullet and see a chiropractor. The first one never took x-rays and didn't ease my pain. The current chiropractor I'm seeing also does acupuncture and all natural remedies. After the first acupuncture experience, I seemed to get a pulled muscle in my back around my right rib cage area. It hurt to take deep breaths. Sounds simple, don't take deep breaths, but, I found if I take shallow breaths constantly, my body naturally wants me to take a deep breath every so often. Which would make my muscle tighten very hard and be very painful. The chiropractor suggested this heating pad for me, as it's a moist heating pad and not like the dry one I did have. Now that we're up to date, I had a horrible, no good, very bad day about a week ago where I awoke at 4am, lower back in horrible pain. Took some ibuprofen but it takes about an hour to work. I realized also upon waking up that from me using a very old heating pad on one spot on my back where the pulled muscle was, that I now had a burn mark there as well as a sore muscle. I had an appointment with my chiropractor that morning at 8am. I didn't get back to sleep until 6am and needless to say, I looked the part of being sleep deprived and in pain. As I was walking out the door, I noticed I got this in the mail. When I got off of work, I came home and laid on it on the couch and went to sleep. It has taken a few days, but I can say that this heating pad has been my main source of comfort in my back ache horror story as of late. It helps to really heal those muscles from the outside. So much so that I don't really need the heating pad until the middle of the night and in the mornings. I feel as I go on, I, hopefully, won't need it anymore except on the odd occasion I do have a pulled muscle. I recommend getting this heating pad, if anything, just to have it in case of emergency. People are right when they say that they keep an extra one just so they don't have to go without. In the manual/instructions it says not to lay on it. I do lay on it, and granted it's only been 5 days since I've owned the thing (yes, it's worked it's magic that fast) but, I can tell you right now, with my back issues, if I were to wake in the middle of the night in the kind of horrible pain I have had before, there is no way I could be able to lay on my stomach and pull this thing on my back. Plus, I can't sleep that way anyway. I leave it on my bed right under where my body lays and just hold the clicker in my hand all night so if I do awake in pain, I can kind of give myself heat blasts until the pain subsides. The clicker was a worry to begin with. But, as the manual says, it's a deep heat therapy and you shouldn't need this kind of heat on you for longer than 30 minutes. I can't even do a full minute, as it gets too hot for me, and I have to let it cool down. But it does heat fast and hot, and does it's job if you let it. This heating pad is not only going to help me, but also help my chiropractor do her job. I was so tense before this, that she couldn't pop my back for fear of injuring me further. Buy this, if you're going to buy ANY heating pad.

Best heating pads ever!!
My aunt introduced me to this moist heating pad over twenty years ago, and I came home and bought one immediately. I had it for over 20 years until it died and we really used it almost daily. So I bought a new one recently and then decided to get another one, so my husband could have one of his own. They are wonderful because they get really hot to relax your muscles and reduce pain. There’s something about the moist heat that just works better than a normal heating pad. And they are large to cover more area, which I love! I bought one for my dad too. If you are on the fence, don’t be. Just buy these, you won’t be sorry.

Best Heat Pad Ever
I was gifted this heat used years ago. When it died a natural death, I tried others. I finally found the heat pad, and nothing compares to how hot it gets.

Good Product - Meaningless warranty coverage
I bought my thermophore eight months ago. I always took care of it, and thought of it as a valuable investment --in terms of money, but also because it is very useful in my medical care. It worked very well... at first. Then it started to warm less and less. Till one day, it warmed no more. I did not worry. The manual stated that the manufacturer stood behind their products and that they had a shop in US soil full of workers willing to fix their products for free if under warranty, or repair them for $30 if past warranty. My thermophore was well within its warranty period. I sent it well packed with a copy of my original receipt. I was then, in shock, when I received a form letter that informed that my warranty did not apply because my thermophore had been manufactured over three years ago. Yet at least as far as a consumer can tell, the date of manufacture is not written anywhere in the original box, its manual, or the device itself. And, if the device spent over three years in an Amazon warehouse, is that reason to declare a product ineligible for warranty coverage? Why was this requirement never documented anywhere in the manual, in the warranty text, or the website of the manufacturer? And what about that $30 offer to fix the thermophore? I was instead, offered to be charged $40 instead. Needless to say a disappointment! This company and its product might have at some point manufactured excellent products, but seems that the pernicious temptation to destroy customer loyalty by saving a few bucks has seeped in... This is a manufacturer in decline. Look elsewhere for a good heating pad.

Gets heat to deep muscle tissue. Dead man switch keeps you from getting burned.
I have spinal cord injuries and use a heating pad on a daily basis. Since finding these, many yrs ago now, I won't use any other kind. I love the size; it covers my entire back. It draws moisture out of the air so you're getting moist heat which works better. When I was first injured, I used heating pads with the push button to turn them on. Inevitably, I'd fall asleep laying on the heat and burn my back, sometimes to the point of blistering it. The dead-man switch on this heating pad prevents that from ever happening. If you're holding the switch down as you fall asleep, your muscles will relax and even if you only release the switch a little, it's enough to turn the heat off. It comes with a washable, soft flannel cover. I've found that they last for a few years with multiple times a day use if you're careful not to bend or twist the cord a lot and thus break the wires inside-- but that goes with all things electrical. Also don't grab it by the cord or you could dislocate the connection to the internal heating elements. I did that one time. However, I guessed what I'd done and was able to push it back in place. It began working again so I must have.(?) Now I'm just careful not to grab it by the cord. The heavier weight helps to hold it in place and get the heat deep into muscle tissue. It heats up quickly and you can feel the muscles begin to relax within a minute or two. It stays hot for quite a while. If you keep the switch depressed, it can get very hot. I heat it up to the temp. I want, then release the switch. A little later if it's cooled down and I want more heat, I simply depress the switch again. I have complete control. I get the remedy I seek without the danger of getting burned because, although they tell not to lay on it, I do. I've never tested the warranty so I can't speak to the person who complained about their customer service. I've always felt I'd gotten my money's worth out of one of these before it died. These are, in my opinion, the best heating pads on the market. For those who complain about the switch, they do make heating pads with the push button style.

The heating pad is great. It replaces the pad that I have used ...
The heating pad is great . It replaces the pad that I have used on/off for 13 years. It did not receive a 5 because the on switch is not so reliable in turning on the heating , matching the one I got with my 1st purchase. I had to wire in an aftermarket switch into that purchase because of operational problems and I feel I will soon have to do it for this one . The switch may be rated to low in wattage and long term durability. The pad last long time. Do not fold or roll up when storing -advice to keep it as safe appliance. THE SECOND PAD I ORDERED AND USED HAD SAME EARLY ON-OFF SWITCH FAILURE. I HAVE SWITCHED BRANDS. THIS BRAND HAS DIGITAL TIMER AND TEMP CONTROL SETTING.

Professional heating pad like the physical therapist use!!
This is the BEST heating pad that I have ever purchased. They are heavy and one cannot compare them to the cheap ones in a department store. The manual switch lets you heat the pad to the comfort you desire without worrying about a setting of 1...2... 3. You just hold the trigger or button down and it heats. It is also heavy, long, and wide. It stays put and can be folded to make a smaller pad if you want. You could moisten the cloth covering but it is designed to gather moisture from your body and the air, so the pad feels moist anyway. I love it! I also purchased one for my girlfriend and one for my daughter and they all love the softness of the cover. (My girlfriend left me so I hope that heating pad keeps her warm!! LOL) The old-style trigger use to go bad after a couple of years but they have redesigned the trigger into a button and it seems, so far, much improved. (UPDATE: When unattended, the button has to be left with it facing up because it can accidentally be left on. This pad continues to heat and has NO AUTOMATIC TURN-OFF FEATURE! ) I buy an extra one to keep in reserve when they finally wear out. I will continue to buy these pads so long as the company stays in business.

Best you can buy and same quality since 1975.
I'm 39 and have had back trouble since I'm 16. I threw my back out worse than ever 2 days prior to buying this and was using a microwaveable heating pad that would take 5 minutes to get hot enough and then last 30-45 minutes before cooling to the point of being to be reheated. I also had 2 different cheap electric heating pads that were utterly useless. They simply don't even get hot - luke warm at best. My grandfather had back surgery in 1975 and was prescribed one of these by his doctor. I borrowed it from him (it still works like new 44 years later!) and was on amazon buying 2 of these (for myself and my mother) 10 minutes after my grandparents were kind enough to drop it off for me. These get hot enough to burn your skin if you want and the hold down rocker switch (I believe) allows Thermophore to circumvent the low heat regulations of the lo/med/hi style pads. My new one gets just as hot as theirs from 1975 and it is glorious! I couldn't walk or stand up to relieve myself before this thing came into my life, and now, I can at least move around and feel I'm getting better. My grandfather thinks they paid $75 for their 13" x 13" pad in 1975 and these are $61 shipped for one twice the size. I was concerned that the wishing would be much lower since that's what happens with quality products over time. Nope, the design is literally exactly the same, with the exception of the switch/lever being a bit better on the new one. If you need to have a heating pad, bite the bullet and buy one of these. It's the ONLY real medical grade heating pad you can buy and the best on the market. Also, don't overlook the "moist" heat provided by the felt/fleece sleeve/cover. Dry heat doesn't do the job. It's rare I leave reviews, but this changed my life after a terrible couple days. I'd hug the owner if he was here.
