Best secateurs ever.
These secateurs are first class. Originally bought for my wife who has mild arthritis in her right hand. She has tried many many secateurs billed as being easy to use. All resulted in her being in discomfort for a couple of days after just a few minutes use. I decided to buy these after reading the reviews. Normally I take reviews with a pinch of salt but chose to give them a go as they weren't expensive and appeared to do what she wanted. I'm glad I did. They are extremely well made and slice through anything very easily with not much effort. When switching to ratchet I was surprised at the thickness of very large twigs/small branches they could cut through with not much effort. A bit like squeezing a sponge dry. Even comes with an oiler attached to the tool. So pleased I'm buying another soon before pruning season comes around.

Wonderful secateurs I would not part with them !
I used to have a similar pair a few years ago and I always seem to have a pair of non-ratchet one bought for my Christmas and birthday gifts At last I found this pair and I am so pleased I did! My pruning is all up to date and it is so easy and takes the effort of cutting thicker stems. So be brave and buy these wonderful cutters. By the way if you are a friend of mine, you maybe getting a pair of secateurs from my stash as I will not be needing them now !!

Packet states cut up to 20mm and not to 22mm as advertised here.
I took advantage of the reduced price £18.99 and bought a pair while on sale. They are advertised to cut green wood up to 22mm thick, plus have an oil pad and be oiled. They arrived in perfect condition but not oiled and no oil on the pad. Not a problem, just saying. The packet however states they are only for use on branches up to 20mm and not to 22mm as advertised here. So for that it loses a star. Furthermore I found a mirror image of these with another name (Kent & Stowe Ratchet Secateurs) and less than £9. Comparing these Davaon to a pair of EasyKut Ratchet Secateurs I bought at the same time for £8.05, which are for use on branches up to 19mm. Both look very similar, and both are ok for the money paid. I tested both on fresh (green) privet wood 20mm in diameter. But even with the ratchet it was difficult to cut using both hands. The EasyKut felt it would break any second, so I didn’t continue. But the Davaon was stronger and completed the cut. However the final ratchet needed a huge amount of pressure to finish the cut. Tried again on other similarly sized wood and both performed better. The Davaon secateurs are clearly better. Plus vastly superior to my cheap 20 year old bypass secateurs, and so they should be. The Davaon secateurs are light weight and easy to use. They are super for small snips and small cuts, as well as with wood up to 10mm. Even in ratchet mode the ratchet does engage unless it needs to, and they are a good pair of secateurs. However with wood 20mm thick or even 18mm thick they struggle and are not practical. You then need loppers, which I would normally use anyway. Overall after a quick test from new they are good secateurs and probably worth £18.99 delivered if they last. I am happy with them so far and I would initially recommended them. They seem a good all round pair of secateurs that are suited from fine to 15mm, with the odd larger cut if you cannot reach the loppers. However for more money I think there are better alternatives. For most garden task this is the only pair of secateurs you need and these will nicely cut all.

Robust, Powerful and Comfortable Secateurs - Highly Recommended
I purchased these secateurs back in July as my Wilkinson Sword cutters were just chewing branches rather then cutting them. I have multiple Bay Trees in my garden - all of which were approximately 18 foot a couple of years ago and have since been reduced to 8 foot as they were just impossible to manage. Since having them cut back dramatically, they have started to make a very nice dense hedge - the only down side is that they are very prolific and need trimming regularly to keep their shape / thickness. I mainly use an electric hedge trimmer, but this struggles to cut through any of the thick branches - hence needing a lopper and also secateurs. For the past 4 months I have been putting these secateurs to the test and I have to say - I am extremely impressed with them. They can cut through a decent sized branch with ease and this is where the ratchet mechanism really comes into its own delivering a very clean cut. They are very comfortable to hold / operate - especially for long periods of time (as in cutting up the branches I have taken down into more manageable sizes to take to the tip) and the locking button on the side to close the secateurs when not in use is easy to operate - simply squeeze the handles together tightly and then flip the switch. Because these are slightly different to standard secateurs - they do take a couple of sessions to really get used to them - I personally went through a doubtful couple of weeks - but since then - I would not be without them. They are strong and robust, plus the seller is excellent in sending you a very informative mail on how to care for your secateurs once they arrive. As recommended - I always clean the blades and oil them after use and after 4 months - they still look as good as new, plus cut very well. So overall verdict - I am delighted I purchased these and would have no hesitation in recommending this product.

Do not buy
This arrived broken. The ratchet system was broken, I tried everything to try to get it to work it was just impossible, It looks like a spring is missing or broken. Had this been the only problem I would have gone for an exchange. I asked my mother who the gift was intended for and who has arthritis to see whether she found it easy to hold and change the switch. She couldn't even take the safety off, and changing modes was impossibly difficult. Also She found them to be very difficult and uncomfortable to hold. The materials used feel very flimsy. So all in all very disappointing. The only plus was the actual blade seemed sharp.

Great product - No blisters!
I was impressed by these, having tried to clear a backlog of bush and hedge due to fencing work I gave up with my two old pairs (different well known makes) and ordered these based on the reviews. I was not disappointed, the grip is much better and the blades are still working well after five days of continuous cutting. the ratchet operation works well, it did take a bit of practice to release pressure and then go again in order to make this work - old habits to just keep squeezing! All around have found these the best I have ever purchased.

Reasonably easy to use but failed
Quite nice to use with large handles that made it easy to hold. And, at first, seemed sturdy. However, the ratchet system (the main reason for buying it) was a bit fiddly to operate and took some time to get the hang of it. The handles had to be squeezed 2-3 times to cut a thick stalk. Using the secateurs without the ratchet is made possible by a small lever and is straightforward. It was used extensively for several months and then stored, with a quick oil spray, inside for the winter. With spring around the corner the secateurs were brought back into service but with the first few cuts the internal spring broke. This rendered the secateurs useless. After only 9 months this failure was both unexpected and disappointing.

Double Action for The Price of One
These dual purpose 'Pro switch 2in1 Ratchet Secateurs' are exactly as described by the seller. The overall construction is superb and being of professional quality can cut to a diameter of 20/22mm with the ratchet and 18mm in the non-ratchet position, the ergonomically contoured shape will help alleviate any strain on the hand if used for long periods. They arrived very safely packaged in a strong cardboard wallet, and prior to their arrival I received an email plus a PDF document showing how to operate the secateurs direct from Davaon Ltd, which was a very professional touch of customer services. Therefore, I will definitely recommend this company on their merits.

Merita

So far they are Dandy Cutters!
Only time will tell - but today I love my new Ratchet Pruning Shears! ** I've been using them daily for over a week now. It easily cut through limbs as big as the width of my thumb which is "as described" or .8" thickness. They do look cheaper than I expected - but they are easy to use, easy to switch from Ratchet to Regular and the locking mechanism keeps them in the closed position. Not too heavy, in fact - they feel just right in my hand. And, you cannot beat the customer service! I was contacted with helpful hints and an invitation to allow them to assist me if needed. ** I like the pruners enough that I ordered a 2nd pair! These clippers really are top-notch. No, they don't appear so, but if you think they are "cheaply made," at least give them a try before you send them back. I am using them to clip and trim oak and pine saplings and many vines. One pair stays on my 'work-wagon' at all times.
