Great buy for the money

This is a great project for kids and easy to see how skilled they are with putting things together and the kids love it. Should have purchased this years ago. Keeps them entertained and happy. Well worth the investment.

Spendy for what it is but fun

Unless you're already well capable of these things yourself as an adult, this is a perfectly good toy for grown-ups as well. Heck, maybe even if you are able to build and code well beyond this level it'd still be fun. I don't, so I don't know. I think this would work for 9yo kids if they're pretty quick on the uptake, younger if they're advanced and/or already interested in the specific subject matter, but maybe the "general" age should be a little higher. If you're going to play with this as a family, though, so there's help available when a kid gets stuck and/or more collaborative in nature, it could work easily for 9yo and even a little younger. Even much younger siblings can make the figures move once they're together and coded in, and even that interactivity can help kids see the fun in science instead of thinking of it as drudgery.

software does not work on iphone / ipad / mac

It would be a great kit, but we only got it to run when connected to a PC. While there is app software for iphone ipad, it does not recognize the device bluetooth of the robot. The mac software simply does not launch. PC seems good.

My 8 Year Old Son LOVES This

My 8 year old LOVES spending his time working on his robot. The cool thing about it is that EVERYTHING he does he can claim "is his." He had a say in the making if the actual robot and how he wanted it to look. He had a say on what he wants the robot to do. He gets to see what happens when's he changes something in the software. HE is in charge and responsible for it ALL.I'd say if you were 13 you could do this by yourself. But if your under 13 your going to need a parent to help. But here's the best part...The amount of relatio ship building I get to do with my son is priceless and by far the best part of this. We both LOVE technology and he loves anything I love. So if I show I terest in these types of things more then he will too and then where's the limit?! There is none he's limitless and that's what we want in our children. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child. Amazing. Thank you.

Wouldn't Work After HOURS Putting it Together

After my son spent hours putting this robot together, it wouldn't work, he was so disappointed. So waste your time or your money.

Great concept, but super expensive for what's in the kit

The media could not be loaded. I love products like this, for the educational value they add and for being a part of demystifying technology. In a nutshell, this kit is decent, but lacks some components that I think would make it more than just a small 'model with motion.' The amount of structural pieces you receive really limits the size and scope of what can be built. On the major plus side, the app for build instructions is top notch and the programming app is well done. It is a wonderful stepping stone for folks new to robotics to learn processes, without having to learn a programming language. I do believe this will make learning to actually code far easier. The software works quite well.My two issues with this kit are:* Price, at $209.99, the amount of components you get will build the few models for which they provide instructions, but there are many little sets of plastic building blocks and there's nothing really universal about them. Trying to build your own custom structure can be very difficult, at best, or you're going to need to alter your design. I built a few small things and ran out of components super fast. So, the kit teaches you how to follow instructions, however, creating new ideas might be a bit of a reach.* If this kit contained a few sensors that could make the robotics at least appear to be more interactive, I would have given it a higher rating. Sensors are so darn cheap and there's a ton of room in that price. Sound, motion, light, moisture, the list goes on.I totally understand, this is more than just a set of plastic building blocks and there's definitely value in the software. Since it's being marketed to kids (9+ and STEM), I think you should include enough components to make it a kit that allows for building a bit more than the few thin examples. The box is so large that I thought there was going to be a fair amount of structural pieces inside. However, it turns out that the box is literally twice the size it needs to be and ALL of the contents fits in just one of the two boxes on the inside. I've checked all of Engino's products and I don't see a single option for buying an expansion kit, like extra components. So, as it sits, I feel like this kit should be in the $80 to $100 price range. That's considering around half the value for the hardware and half for the software. The video I'm attaching was of the windmill with a quick program for clockwise and then counterclockwise motion. I feel this is a kit for ages 12+. Most kids younger than that will need a significant amount of help with every aspect of this kit. I try to support products that foster learning, but this one makes it a hard to give any higher than a three star rating.
