It ran fine with the 8 pin, but felt with all the memory my PC has, I should also hook up the 4 pin. This cable gave me the extra length to do so and was needed due to how big my case is. I was a little worried it might be be too short (I have an HAF X), but ended up being just the right length. Had no problem connecting the cable to my board and to my PSU cable (Seasonic). The Seasonic cable splits in 2, so only used half of it to plug into this cable.Looks just like the cable that came with my HAF X, except its a bit shorter and is 4 pin instead of 8. So fits right in with it.
