Review: I have had it for several years now and perhaps my expectations were just too high from how others raved about it. Or maybe I just got a bad one? I didn't say anything for a long time because I thought maybe I was using it wrong. Who knows, maybe there is some technique I just cannot grasp. Regardless my brush arrived looking thrown together. Paint peeling back under the plastic wrap. That was off-putting but I thought maybe I just was being too precious. However, thus brush has zero snap. Its as limp and flacid as, well... Nevermind. Suffice it to say, it just flops over. It does hold a ton of water and pigment. However the only way I have found to really release that pignent is to squeeze it out. Never had to do that with another brush before. Its very thirsty, which is good, it just doesn't allow for any more control than if I were dragging a limp rag full of paint across the paper. I occasionally use the brush as a mop but only to force myself to try and make friends with it. Again, maybe I am just not getting it. Probably so. Suffice to say I will never buy a Raphael brush again. I know people love these. I want to love this brush. It just hasn't behaved very loveably for me. It returns to a great point with water, but no real snap back especially with larger sizes. **Q: Are the bristles 1.5 inches long ?** A: About 1.3 inches. **Q: Does it have natural hair?** A: Soft Aqua brushes have a newly designed synthetic hair, which due to micro wavelike structure has a greater water holding than the best squirrel hair. They are a superb brush ,hold shape and can stand upto vigourous use without hair breaking or coming loose. Excellent value alternative to topline squirrel. **Q: What size round brush is this closely equivalent to?** A: That is a hard question to answer as there is nothing specifically to compare and all brushes are not alike. The best guess is to take measurements kindly provided by Amazon Customer in the only other answer here and I quote "Tip to end is 7 inches. Brush is about 3/4 inch long. Ferule slightly longer. Brush width slightly under 1/2 inch". Take the round brush you are comparing to and measure to get an idea of size. A mop brush also varies from company to company. What I do know for sure is that this brand is relatively smaller than a customer not accustomed to them might imagine from their images. For instance, my Soft Aqua travel mop 1795 by Raphael is a 3/0, 6.4mm wide, and 19mm long which is fairly small. To eyeball it I'd say it's a size 4 round but again this is a only a guess based on other size 4 rounds I happen to have and they range in size from different companies in a variety of materials from Kolinsky sable to synthetic. If you look at the Raphael SoftAqua travel set they offer a round in size 6 but I'd consider it more a size 2 in any other brand I have. This is why I only bought their travel quill from that set. I have more use for it as it's like a size 6 in actual size compared to my other brushes. Beyond that, it's nicely put together, keeps it's shape, has a fine tip, and holds water as good if not better than organic hair brushes so I recommend it on that alone. As to durability I don't know yet but it seems to be holding up nicely, but I also take proper care of my brushes.
