Review: Know The Actual Purpose For These!!! - Know The Actual Purpose For These!!! (Long Rant Then My Review) I've seen so many reviews about these that say "they're too quiet" or "not loud enough" Well, it is true that these are quiet. That's for a reason! These are for protecting your hearing! Why do you buy ear protection? To protect your ears by lowering the noise levels of your surroundings in a work or loud environment. Right? So why would you use ear protection to lower the noise levels and then want to crank your music back up to those unsafe levels!?! People think that earbuds are completely safe and can't damage hearing. WRONG! They may not be loud, but they are pushing the sound waves directly into your ear. This allows them to produce unsafe sound levels just like most other audio devices. All that being said, yes these are quieter than most other earbuds, but that is for a reason. These are hearing protection! If you want loud earbuds look at ones that are just that, EARBUDS! NOT hearing protection. You put these in and they cut the ambient sound levels by 22dB and give you the convenience of being able to listen to music or whatever. Again, why cut the sound levels by that 22dB then expect to be able to bring your music back up past that level? At that point you are subjecting your ears to the same damage as if you were to not wear them at all! These are for the job and for people doing work! Now for my review of these when used for their actual intended purpose. If you're tired of using plain old ear plugs when working in a loud environment and are tired of hearing your own breathing, heartbeat etc, check these out. I use mine for lawn work, metal fab, wood working and other loud activities. These have worked great so far. They do a great job at cutting down the sound from my large mower (John Deere X758) my table saw, grinders and other tools. They do have very good sound quality even at the lower volume level they produce. I can clearly hear all my music, but as said before, you can't blast these things. Take some time to try out the difference foam earplugs/earpieces to find the best fit. Squish them down with your fingers them push them into your ears and hold them there while the foam re-expands. Do this with the earplug/earpiece attached to the unit, don't just shove the foam plug in your ear by itself... This will help them completely or nearly completely seal in the ear. Try them without any loud noise and you'll hear the sound quality these really have. They do come with 3 sets of foam earplugs/earpieces (these are for protection) They also come with 3 pairs of regular silicone earpieces (these can be used just for listening, not for protection) The battery life is great. I've gotten over 9 hours out of these once or twice, but on average 6-7. The case they come with is very nice. It also charges up and can recharge the earbuds about 3 times. You can actually get some good distance with these. My old ear protection was the 3M Worktunes and I could only get 10-15 feet away from my phone at best (this was fine for me though) With these Isotunes I can get over 30 feet away sometimes, this seems to be dependent on the streaming device being used. The "noise canceling microphone" used for phone calls is not very good though. Pretty bad actually, so if you need these for making calls while mowing the lawn or running a grinder... Not so good. I don't take calls while I'm working so this was of no issue for me. Take some time to read the very basic manual to figure out the buttons. Yes the have control buttons. The whole center section of these is a button, the left has its own function controls and the right as well. Just sit down with the manual and try out these buttons and functions BEFORE trying to use them while working. This is not a safety issue, more of a tip to keep you from getting frustrated with them. It took me less than 15 minutes and I had all the controls figured out. Overall these have been working great. Just know what these are actually supposed to be used for and you'll be happy with them.
Review: Perfect for My Shop Use! - In my woodworking garage/shop got tired of wearing “muffs” with safety glasses and dust mask. Plus I have a wood turning helmet/respirator and a welding helmet that don’t allow the over ear protectors. When these were just released I pre-ordered them at ToolNut. I knew they are volume limited at 85dB but even in a quiet room there was no sound until the sound volume was at 1/2 and wasn’t very loud at all at full volume. Very disappointed so I had to pay shipping to return them to ToolNut. I tried the Isotunes Pro but didn’t like the cord. Also tried Powerbeats Pro and they sounded good but not enough sound isolation and they have a hook over the ear that I didn’t like. Later I noticed that desertcart was offering the IsoTunes FREE so I read the reviews at both desertcart and IsoTunes. I saw a lot of good reviews but also a couple that had my same complaint about very low volume I experienced. With desertcart Prime I had free returns so took a chance ordering another pair. Glad I did - the new pair was much louder. Even when using my Festool track saw or Domino jointer with a dust collector on the sound isolation is good enough that I don’t need to hit full volume to comfortably hear the music. Mentioning music - the sound on these is pretty good. Good base and balance. Very comparable to the PBP’s except the mid-range is little better on the PBP. This is my first set of Bluetooth headphones so didn’t know what to expect. Connection is quick and I can walk from the garage where my iPhone or iPad is into the kitchen 30-40 feet away and still hear the music. I’m getting good at inserting the ear tips and they are very comfortable. Battery life has been excellent so far. To be perfect for some reason I would like one or two more volume steps even though maximum is too loud to listen to for more than a couple minutes. Plus little better sound isolation would be nice. Only other thing I notice is when you stop the music you can hear some background “white” noise and it goes away after the headphones power down. I did some searching and found most if not all Bluetooth headphones do this. Update - ISOTunes had me send these back for testing of sound level. When I got them back they have quite a bit more volume. These are perfect for my application now. Great customer service!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How do these compare to mainstream earbuds?**
A: FREE 2.0 is a safety product, first and foremost. It blocks 25 dB of sound coming into your ear from the environment and limits the audio output into your ear to 85 dB. Some non-safety headphones can have a maximum volume output between 100-115 dB.

**Q: What's the difference between noise-cancelling and noise-isolating?**
A: FREE 2.0 is a noise-isolating ear protector, meaning it blocks noise with a physical barrier (earplug) while wearing the product. Alternatively, noise-cancelling products produce an inverse sound wave to reduce noise while the product is turned on.

**Q: How do I get the best fit from the foam earplugs?**
A: Properly inserting your eartips provides better noise reduction and superior sound quality: Compress the foam eartip for 5 sec, pull up on your ear to open your ear canal, insert the plug into your ear and hold for 15 sec while the foam expands.

**Q: Are the silicone eartips the same for hearing protection?**
A: The eartips that come with ISOtunes earbuds have been tested for a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR). The FREE 2.0 has a NRR of 25 dB while using the foam eartips or a NRR of 22 dB while using the double flange silicone eartips that come with the product.

**Q: Can I use one earbud at a time?**
A: We always recommend using both earbuds for the best hearing protection and safety. However, the earbuds can work independently.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great earbuds and fantastic customer service.

A couple of cons. 1) the foam tips that are the earplug part, often need to be replaced, and you have to touch them to get them in and out, which can lead to ear infections. 2) they have a flashing LED on the outside that blinks blue every five seconds while they're on and connected. You can't see it, but everyone else sure can. (I used slivers of electrical tape to cover them) 3) if I'm only using one, I either have volume control, or pause control, depending on which one I have turned on. A couple of huge positives: 1) unlike the pro, I can have only one turned on which improves my ability to hear my co-workers getting my attention. 2) the batteries last forever. I work 10 hour days. I stick them in the case at lunch, just because I take them out, and I've never seen them drop below 30%. 3) the sound quality is great. 4) the noise limiter is a bonus for me, I can't hurt my ears continuously turning them up. Voices are a bit quiet, but I can hear an audiobook running a huge automatic steel saw and a band saw. 5) they can activate my Google assistant, although it's a bit touchy because holding the button for a second longer turns them off. 6) they're super light and they're actually flush so they aren't crazy obvious. Edit: I had some trouble with one set of the plugs coming apart, and they sent me a pack of new ones. The customer service is fantastic!
