This is exactly the kind of book on meditation that I’ve been looking for. I started seeking out information on meditation after hearing about the many positive benefits that it has. I really enjoyed reading this book
I really enjoyed reading this book. Not only gives you clear and concise explanations on meditation, different types of mediation and how to meditate but is also a great consultation book for beginners. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in meditation but doesn't know where or how to start. Furthermore, its very easy to read and finish, it took me 1h30 and It didn't felt that long.

I really enjoyed this book. Short, concise and written in a friendly, chatty style. It covered the history of meditation, benefits and different types of meditation. It has really inspired me to get started. I definitely recommend this book.

Ok
It's alright I suppose. Contains good scientific information about the benefits of meditation and it's well written in a simple way. The rest of the information such as how to meditate I found a bit useless to be honest. It's just good for evidence information but not a lot else so don't expect a mind blower.

Invaluable!
Very good, easy to read introduction to meditation. I read it in one sitting and then tried my first session - whilst I experienced many of the distractions listed in the book after about 5 minutes things settled down and I was able to enjoy it, may this be the start of a long and rewarding lifestyle change.

Having read the very positive reviews on here I decided to buy two copies one for myself and one as a gift for a friend. My first thoughts were that it just about qualified to be a book and was in fact more like a glorified pamphlet in my opinion. The content was particularly disappointing,it seemed to be written rather lazilly. It seems to take for granted that one already knows how to meditate,which is surprising given the title.It focuses on issues such as what meditation is,The benefits of meditation,types of meditation,how it works, etc, In fact....Everything that everyone already knows!!!!! just to fill the pages it would seem...... .What is sadly lacking here is the main information that most people would buy this book for, and that is :How to actually meditate in detail.I feel rather cheated having purchased this and I am very suspicious of the high number of positive reviews for this book.I would not recommend it to anyone as it is a major disappointment.

Excellent introduction.
I have been meditating fairly regularly for a good long time now, but it was still helpful to read this book and be reminded of why and how. I like the fact that it recognizes Christian thinking as a valid part of meditation life, too. Not too long, but well written and very much worth reading. Highly recommended.

Practical suggestions to Guide a Beginner
This short but very informative book gives very practical guidelines and suggestions for the beginning meditator. Easy and enjoyable to read. Inspires you to start meditating.

Its a good read if your a beginner
Meditation is a general term that pertains to the different ways in which a person can achieve a tranquil state of being. It tells you which types of meditation in this book it give 8 different ways and it prepares you on how to do it. And if choose Candle Meditation it tells you which candle to use. which is a plus to me, this one will work for me in general. It also tells you how to practice it meditation every day. This book only gives you 62 pages of reading materiel. And the other 6 pages tells you about Mindfulness for beginners, The history and definition of Mindfulness. So I hope this helps you to buy or not to buy the book. The "Cons" of this book its short but sweet, it only gives you the basic info for meditation. This is why I only gave it 4 stars.

Meditation for Beginners
This is a well written, easy to follow instructional book. It coaches you through basic meditation steps, but is not ridged in any particular meditation style. Read a portion at a time and practice what you've read before reading and adding more to your routine.

The author’s easy-to-read, straightforward writing style make this an easily digestible primer on meditation for beginners. If you are looking to begin practicing meditation and want to do so without a coach or guide, this book is the place to start. As the author promises in her introduction, you will learn exactly how to meditate, how to use meditation techniques to calm your mind, and how to practice meditation daily. Most important, she provides an introduction to several styles and types of meditation, so you can experiment and find one that suits you best. She walks the reader through short explanations of the definition of meditation and an equally short history and benefits of meditation chapter. Then she gets to the heart of the matter: how meditation works, the common obstacles to meditation, types and elements of meditation, and a highly useful and interesting chapter on how to prepare for meditation. All that’s left is for the reader to make a commitment to try meditation and turn that into a daily habit.
