Weezer, with its simple blue cover featuring a group band shot, was not like anything most kids in 1994 had heard before, taking its nerdy cues from strange places the 1950s, comic books, Dungeons \x26 Dragons, the Bible and producer Ric Ocasek, pop auteur of The Cars. Initially released without a single or much notice, the album\x27s sales started slow but eventually reached triple platinum status, spending 78 weeks on the chart and peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It has sold 3.7 million copies in the U.S alone. Local radio play for \x27Undone The Sweater Song\x27 prompted an official release and video directed by then rising star Spike Jonze. The video featured the band performing on a soundstage, joined by a wandering pack of dogs. Their next Jonze\-directed innovative video for \x27Buddy Holly\x27 helped spike the band s popularity and won four MTV video awards. The song rose to No. 2 on Billboard s US Modern Rock chart, one of three top 10 hits for Weezer. The album\x27s esteem has only continued to rise in the decades since its release and its impact has been magnified. Rolling Stone placed the Blue album in both its lists of top 500 albums (No. 297) and top 100 debut albums, where it was No. 35: \x27When it came out, Weezer\x27s debut was merely a cool, quirky power\-pop album with a couple of hit singles: \x27Buddy Holly\x27 and \x27Undone (The Sweater Song).\x27 But Rivers Cuomo\x27s band became a major influence to the young sad\-sack punkers who today claim Weezer as one of emo\x27s pioneers. Mixing winking deadpan delivery with serious hooks, guarded sensitivity and a deep disinterest in alt\-rock\x27s then\-roiling culture wars, they came up with a record that\x27s aged much better than a lot of the serious indie\-rock of the time.\x27 Review: Cool music - Great cd from start to finish 👏 Review: Brilliant...Just Brilliant - Ok here are my ratings of each song My Name Is Jonas: 8/10 - Strong, fun opener No One Else: 9.5/10 - One of my personal favourites. A catchy, funny and, let's be honest, a little pathetic song about wanting his girlfriend to only laugh at his jokes. The World Has Turned And Left Me Here: 8.5/10 - Slightly less catchy than the previous two but one of the deeper songs on the album about being dumped. Buddy Holly: 9.5/10 - Everyone knows this single with it's famous wee-oh chorus. Another favourite. Undone (The Sweater Song): 7/10 - Possibly my lest favourite on this album but it's still a clever, slightly goofy song using the sweater as a metaphor for a relationship sung in hymn fashion. Surf Wax America: 8.5/10 - Funny, geeky sing-along about surfing. Say It Ain't So: 9/10 - Brilliant track about family falling apart. By far the deepest song here. In The Garage: 9.5/10 - My favourite song here. Great track about being a metal nerd. Holiday: 9/10 - Happy song about... well a holiay. Only In Dreams: 9/10 - One of very few slow songs on this album and finishes the album on a high. In short: an undeniable filler-free classic that they have so far failed to repeat.

Best of its era
This album irrevocably stamped its mark on popular music right from the word go, when the deceptively pretty acoustic guitar intro of My Name Is Jonas erupts with the first thrash of the power chord, and from then on never lets up. A set of fantastic, tuneful, melodic songs, intelligently crafted but with the power and rock n roll behind them to satisfy hard rock fans, Weezer created a formidable synthesis of power pop and hard rock with their debut, and which has characterized their music ever since. The pick of the tracks: - My Name Is Jonas - a powerful opener - Buddy Holly - seems to have defined the band in recent years, but the reputation it's earned is entirely justified. Catchy yet original power pop. - Say It Ain't So - perhaps the band's best, this is a heartfelt rock ballad with touching lyrics and some great guitar and vocal licks. Weezer's nerdy yet supremely cool and tongue-in-cheek attitude is reflected through their consistently excellent music videos, but the videos are not at all necessary to enjoy the tracks themselves. If you want to get into Weezer, make this album your necessary first purchase. Hell, buy it anyway!

One of the most perfectly crafted albums ever
Weezer's Blue Album is arguably one of the best albums I have ever listened to. No song feels out of place because every song puts you in the mood for the next one. 20 years after it was released and it still being one of the great albums mean that it could become a timeless classic. The only song that is questionable and very 20 years ago is No One Else, a song about a man who is very controlling of his girlfriend, but Rivers Cuomo has addressed that in interviews, that the following song "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here" is that same horrible man wondering why nobody likes him. Which bolsters the best point about this album, it is designed to be listened to as an album, the craftsmanship that has gone into creating this music means I can give it no less than 5 stars Everything got to me in perfect condition and I am very happy with my purchase
