Heats up lovely. **Q: How long does the blanket take to warm up to the maximum setting?** A: A few minutes, very quick really. I'm very pleased with this electric blanket. Nice and warm. Three settings, I use the top setting as I like to be really warm, but the lower settings are good too. I usually turn it off when I'm about to go to sleep, stays warm for a bit. Works well. **Q: Is this safe to use on a gel topped mattress as some are but this doesn’t say** A: We bought a new mattress with gel top and I didn't think at the time to check if electric blanket would be ok on top. However, I went ahead and used it on top and there was a slight smell at first, but seems fine now. I put a mattress protector under electric blanket and the sheet over it and seems fine. I originally put a towel under the electric blanket too. I tried googling the answer but TBH couldn't find anything definitive about it. Some say yes some say no. Obviously you don't get the benefit from the gel top with the electric blanket. Sorry to be ambiguous. You have to put it on about half an hour before you go to bed and it heats up lovely. It turns off automatically and has 3 heat settings. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it came with a European plug so I had to get an adaptor for Irish socket.
