Ok... that much money for something you throw trash in?? My girlfriend has made fun of me for spending this much on a trash can on multiple occasions now. It's worth it. This is a durable, high quality, good looking trash can. It completely hides the bag when the lid is on making it even more attractive. The flat back makes it perfect to put up against the end of a counter or island. It's easy to change the bag and put a new one in. It has some weight to it making it feel more sturdy. It won't easily tip over if someone bumps into it. I like the open top design. Not having to open a lid makes life easier in the kitchen. The bag is well below the top of the lid so that somewhat hides the trash unless you are right up at the can. The outside of the can doesn't seem to hold fingerprints much so it keeps looking good. The only thing I do notice is dust and particles do gather on the lid around the opening a bit. But I just wipe it off on occasion (whenever I clean or change the trash bag). Though it is supposed to take special bags (The P liner), I have been using typical kitchen bags with no issue. The bags don't reach to the very bottom of the can but I have not had the bags come unhooked from the top or anything like that. The can did come with some of the P bags but I haven't tried to use them yet as I already had a huge box of standard kitchen bags. I did look the P bags up and they are only slightly more money compared to your average bag so I will probably switch to those once I use up what I have. I'm very happy with this purchase, even at the original price I paid for it. If you are hesitating because you aren't sure if it's worth it, stop hesitating. It took me months to finally make the plunge on this. I don't regret it.

I originally ordered this from Amazon but it was delivered damaged - a giant dent along the curved surface. It was out of stock so I got it from a brick and mortar store that had sent me a 20% off coupon. *** FUNCTIONALITY *** I bought this for my kitchen and it looks great and it's nice and big. Initially I wondered about the open top - but then when I thought about most kitchen bins with lids I've had in my life the lid always ends up off or always open in a well used kitchen. The lid is about 6" tall above the top of the bag so you can't actually see the garbage unless you have way way overfilled the bin. *** BAGS *** They say you need their special P bags, but I think it's more practical to use the usual 50L bulk bags from somewhere like costco. They do fit and are still invisible but this size is generally not quite long enough and the bottom of the bag will be a couple of inches off the bottom of the can. If you really overfill it, it will drop down and detach the at the top. *** PRICE *** It's probably the most expensive garbage bin and I think these are more usually used in commercial uses like building bathrooms and lobbies. Generally I think they are used for non-stinky items and are changed every day. I think it's worth it - especially if you will use it for non-food items. *** CLEANING *** Here's where it loses a star. And it so easily could have solved this. If you spill anything inside it is a huge pain to clean. Not only will the spill be all over the inside of the stainless steel, but there are plenty of little crevices at the bottom the stainless where the plastic bottom attaches. Note that you can pop out the bottom - and you will need to. Even with the bottom off there are crevices in the steel body that catch scraps. It would have been so easy to put a thin hard plastic shell that slips inside between the steel and the bag. This could have been easily removed and cleaned. With that modification this bin would be perfect. I'm actually considering putting one of the supplied P bags in and taping it in as a liner then using another bag as the actual trash bag. For a $150 can this kind of thing should not be necessary. Overall I'm glad I bought it - but I wonder how often I'll have to clean it and how quickly that will sour my opinion. update after 6 years: I still love this trash can and I'm upgrading my 4 stars to 5 - I stand by my caveat about cleaning the inside - it's a PITA when it happens, but if this trash can isn't a 5 star one then I don't know which is. The large open top and smooth metal mouth makes it easy to push trash in off the counter. Even if you miss the lid it is very easy to clean. Overfilling with anything heavy (lots of bottles or anything very wet) if you don't use the official bags is still a real concern but I just know to empty a little early if I do this. It does need to be cleaned inside periodically but given that the bag usually stays firmly attached it isn't as much of an issue as I worried initially. I still strongly recommend this product. I'd love to see a version in a matte black.

This thing is a great can it is tough the lid is open, and it don’t let much Oder out. It was a great price, and it works perfectly!

I was debating myself whether or not we buy this or another Simplehuman product, Rectangular Step Trash Can, Fingerprint-Pro​of Brushed Stainless Steel, 50 liter/13 gallon. In fact, I placed an order for the rectangular one, but decided to cancel it and ordered this one. I think I made the right decision. Here are the things that I considered: 1) Perfect Height I realized that this can has a good height -- about 30 inches. That means I don't have to bend forward when I throw things in there. The rectangular one is much lower.: you would have to step on the pedal to open it and lean forward to put garbage in. It may be a minor thing, but if you are a tall person, it may make a difference. Also, we place it at the end of our kitchen island. The rectangular model's lid would hit the edge of our granite every time we open it, which could be annoying and damage the finish of the lid. 2) Open-top Design We use this can as a recycle bin, i.e., it's for dry and no-odor causing items, so the open design doesn't bother us. It's actually better since a lot of our recycling trash are fairly large. 3) Large Volume It's pretty large, but can fit 13-gallon regular tall kitchen bag. I tried a cheap superstore tall garbage bag, and it fits. The bottom of the bag doesn't touch the bottom of the can, but it's pretty close. That means you can pretty much use the maximum volume of the bag. Also, the nice tension of the stretched bag hold itself in the place unless you try to throw heavy thing down in there. 4) Attractiveness The finish is beautiful. The can came securely packed in a box. It's a trash can, but you wouldn't mind taking a picture of yourself beside it. 5) No moving parts I still like the rectangular shape one with the lid, but the fact that it has moving parts, the lid and the pedal, could mean some issues down the road. Less or no moving part is always better. Again, for us, the purpose is to put recyclables in there. So, open-top design with no moving part works perfect for us. 6) Semi-round shape Because we place it at the end of our kitchen island, which is a high traffic area, the gentle semi-round shape is more suited because it doesn't get in the way when we walk around the corner. In any case, I just got it today and are happy. I want to thank people who gave me specific information about the product. I'm gland that I chose this product.

opening is awesome, easy to clean I think they changed the bottom pan from the early reviews. holds a lot and Walmart band 20g flex bags works great. also bag lifts out without a vacuum. should last forever as long as it does not get crushed

Beautiful receptacle, easy to clean, change bags, etc. I love being able to just drop egg shells, food scraps, and other messy things straight in without having to touch anything. Fills up relatively fast in our home so have not noticed any smells, and upper part is tall enough that I don't really notice trash inside until it is becoming over-full. 4 stars due to no plastic liner inside. I have taken advice from other reviewers and use the simplehuman P liner bags that came with it as the protective liner and use "typical" brand bags as the trash liner. I am on the same P liner after a dozen changes (no leaks, so no need to change, as it is perfectly clean). Happy with purchase.

I STARTED WITH 3 SMALLER ROUND ONES, BEFORE I SPENT THE EXTRA MONEY FOR THE LARGER SEMI- ROAND BECAUSE THEY ARE WORTH IT. THEY ARE A BETTER SPACE-SAVING DESIGN AND HOLD MUCH MORE VOLUME. I HAVE 3 TOTAL OF THEM AS WELL. NO TOP COVERS BECAUSE THEY ARE A PAIN AND THEN STOP WORKING (OTHER CHEAPER BRANDS). I WISH THEY DID COST LESS THOUGH. THE PRICE IS INSANE. BUT, OVER THE LONG HAUL, A GOOD INVESTMENT FOR SOMEONE THAT IS PHYSICALLY DISABLED.

The can is just a little larger than a standard kitchen can which works well because I don’t wind up with “overflow”. A regular trash bag will fit loosely or specifically made bags can be purchased. This is lightweight but heavy enough that it doesn’t knock over easily and the half circle style fits close to the wall. The stainless steel matches my kitchen very well. I really like the styling of the lid which effectively hides what is inside and makes changing the bag a breeze! Well worth the cost!

A good sized bin. Great quality, no lid or pedals you simply throw things straight in. Great design, sits neatly against a flat wall. Looks like good quality in a new kitchen, a typical neatly designed Simple Human product!

We are using this in our large kitchen for recyclables. We have a 2 bin hidden unit under the sink for food scraps and for regular garbage but recyclables are our highest volume trash. Designed for commercial applications where it is visible so it looks good in the kitchen. Easy to wipe down but needs only monthly. Open top makes it easy to toss things in. You wouldn't want an open top for wet garbage because of smell and possibly insects but great for recyclables. Big so I dump it only every 3 or 4 days. I'm using Costco Kirkland Blue recycling bags which are cheap. The removable top of this unit hides the top of the bag which folds over the bottom part. This is an expensive trash can but it doesn't look out of place in a high end kitchen and will last a long time.
