Secret weapon.
A great beater for jazz and acoustic settings but I use this as my main beater for everything now. It is great for 'feathering' the bass drum which is needed for jazz and when you want a pulse to be 'felt' rather than heard over the music and it helps to lock in with the bass. As a reviewer on Amazon.com said it will also mean you can change your bass drum tuning. Many people don't realise that John Bonham had his bass drum tuned high. You can tune high but still get a warm sound with this beater and you don't need much muffling so can let the heads resonate more or definitely experiment with a more open sound. This is a secret weapon for jazz. I was concerned that rebound would be affected but it actually seems easier to play 'out' of the head without burying the beater and the core is hard enough to mean you can still get a good thud. Recommended.

This really is the bomb
What an amazing sound this beater delivers from your kick drum. I'm playing a 18x16 (16x18 if your American) Gretsch maple kit the sound is everything from almost inaudible to mind blowing loud. When I say loud I mean this in a way that it fills the room and makes it shake in simpethetic reverberation due to the sub goodness. I have now completely converted to this beater from the standard one on my DW 9000 and it's amazing how quick this plays.

Love the big furry knob.
I played the most quiet gig of my life with this massive furry knob. As expected, it's makes a warm, quiet and rounded tone which was perfect for the non-amplified gig. I used it with a fairly empty 20" Gretsch Maple.

Transformed
What a difference this beater made to the sound of my bass drum, a much softer deeper sound than I could have imagined, it has transformed my bass drum playing.

Very heavy beater, good sound but sluggish action.
This is a bloody heavy beater. Infact I have never experienced such heft at the end of my beater's shaft. When it hits the bass it makes a very robust thump and the attack is relatively round. It would be perfect for big bass drums and drummers with really strong feet. As someone who has a reasonably strong right foot and whose throw is closer to 90 degrees than 80, this beater feels like hard work and rather sluggish. Maybe it would work well for a drummer who has the beater at a wimpy angle. I might actually try it myself and see if that's what this is for.

El sonido que se logra con el baqueton es buenísimo, me agrado desde el momento que lo soné. Agrega mucho cuerpo al sonido del bombo (a pesar de que uso un parche viejo).

Solid sound, definitely recommend it.

Didn't fit my double pedal so I had to file it down with a rasp. Took forever. When I finally got it in, it made the drum sound like the woofy warm glow of my dreams. 5 stars.

High quality. I love the subtle difference in sound compared to hard plastic beaters.

I already owned the normal-sized Vintage Bomber Beater, which I've used for years for a good soft, round tone on my 16" bass drum. I bought this "long-range" model because I'm drumming for a project where I'm using an old 1970s Ludwig marching bass drum that is around 26" (I don't know if 26" is the exact size yet, but I know I'm close with that estimate). With this particular beater, I can easily position it to hit the center of the drum head. If you are looking for a softer, vintage-y tone and you've got a larger bass drum than normal, then I highly recommend this beater. The tone isn't appropriate for everything, but it's good to have it around if you're playing a lot of different styles of music and you love trying out different tones.
